Abstract

This study aims to describe the learning obstacles faced by students in the operation of integers. The research method used is a qualitative method with a case study design. The data was taken from 16 students in grade 7, a junior high school in Batang Hari, Jambi. The data collection technique used was triangulation data. There are written tests, interviews with both students and the teacher, and document analysis. The data collection instrument used was a test of integer operations, interview guidelines, and documents (lesson plan and textbook). The results of the research showed that there are learning obstacles in the operations of integers, namely, ontogenic obstacles (difference in knowledge between natural number operations and integer operations), epistemological obstacles (limited understanding), and didactical obstacles (obstacles that come from the didactic system). Other researchers can create lesson plans based on the obstacles found in this research.

Abstract

The problem of low problem solving abilities of students in Mathematics subjects are due to the learning process in the classroom only directed at students' ability to memorize information, more lots of listening and writing, memorizing formulas and working on problems with formulas that have been memorized so that students have difficulty solving problems when finding differences from the example questions. This research aims to determine the use of the Problem Based Learning learning model and the problem solving abilities of class XI students at Muhamadiyah 10 Rantauprapat Private High School. This research is a type of quantitative research, with a research population of 120 students from 4 classes. Data collection techniques in this research used two methods, namely observation of teacher activities and tests in the form of descriptions. With research results tcount is greater than ttable. So it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model has a very significant influence on the mathematical problem solving abilities of students in class This is strengthened because the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model has advantages and goals that are able to encourage students to learn more effectively because they focus on problem solving and students are able to develop themselves.

Abstract

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a global shift towards remote learning in education systems worldwide. This study aims to assess the impact of remote learning on student engagement by examining global educational responses to the crisis. Through a qualitative approach and extensive literature review using library research methods, this research explores the lessons learned from various countries' experiences with remote learning during the pandemic. The analysis focuses on key factors influencing student engagement, including access to technology, teacher-student interaction, curriculum adaptation, and socio-economic disparities. Findings reveal both challenges and opportunities associated with remote learning. While technological limitations and digital divide pose significant barriers to student engagement, innovative teaching strategies, collaborative efforts, and flexible curriculum adjustments have emerged as effective solutions. Furthermore, the study identifies the importance of teacher support, parental involvement, and student motivation in enhancing engagement in remote learning environments. The insights gained from this research provide valuable lessons for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders in designing effective strategies to improve student engagement in remote learning settings, both during crises and beyond.

Abstract

This study explores the synopsis of the accumulative effects of school dropout in South Africa. Primarily attending school until full completion is highly beneficial to individuals and the society, it brings about an upward movement in skills development, crime reduction, better health, and an increased sense of self-confidence. Contrariwise, dropping out of educational and training system often limits individual’s range of possibilities in life. In South Africa, retaining students in school until they graduate from primary or secondary school has become a big challenge to educational policy makers, thus, reflecting the inadequacy of the quality or quantity of the system. Using qualitative method of approach and ecological model, adopted from Bronfenbrenner, this work believes that school dropout is based on the interrelationships between individual learners and multiple systems connected to them which in turn affects the country socially, economically, and politically. The paper concluded that policy makers and education specialists should work together to implement a successful education system suitable for a new generation of students in meeting their challenges of modern globalized world while fostering social mobility and economic growth and reducing the inequitable distribution of societal resources.

Abstract

Preachers as servants who are given the task of conveying the word of God must have a strong understanding of the verses to be conveyed, so that there will be no mistakes or multiple interpretations in their preaching. The purpose of this study is to provide a deeper understanding of the Word of God so that we can communicate it with power and relevance in our daily lives. This research utilizes a qualitative method. This method involves analyzing the theology contained in the biblical text, including the study of theological concepts such as grace, justice, salvation, and others. Data collection techniques were conducted through in-depth analytical analysis of the biblical text itself. The study concluded that the call to serve others, build inclusive communities, and trust in God's active work in bringing salvation to His people are at the core of Christianity. So it is important to live the Christian faith with dedication, loyalty, and love for God and others, thus strengthening the vertical relationship with God and horizontal with fellow humans in realizing grace and justice in the world.

Abstract

Student learning outcomes are an indicator of the success of teaching and learning activities carried out. This research aims to determine the improvement in student learning outcomes in economics courses by implementing the problem-based learning model a quantitative research method with a quasi-experimental approach. The population of this research was 205 students in class XI social at SMAN 7 Tasikmalaya, and the sample used was 136 students using a purposive sampling technique consisting of two experimental classes and two control classes. The experimental class uses the Problem-Based Learning learning model, while the control class uses the conventional learning model. Students in each class are given a pretest, and then learning is carried out according to a predetermined model, and then a posttest is carried out. The questions used are 25 multiple-choice questions, and then the results or grades obtained by students are analyzed further.  The results of this study show that there are differences between before and after treatment in the experimental class and control class. This research concludes that the implications of implementing a problem-based learning model as an alternative to conventional models can be used in an effort to improve student learning outcomes in economics courses.

Abstract

The debate over the concept of Indonesia's national defense and security system has been a significant topic since independence until the reform era. This article aims to discuss the dynamics of the Universal People's Defense System within the National Defense and Security System from the independence period to the reform era. A documentation study method is used to collect and analyze important documents such as laws, government policies, official reports, and relevant literature. Data analysis is conducted to identify significant changes in the concept and implementation of the National Defense System and its impact on the system's sustainability. Findings indicate that the national defense concept remains relevant and should be maintained. The Universal People's System involves all societal components, territorial integrity, natural resources, and other means, strengthening military and non-military defense integration, increasing respect, and enhancing deterrence. This concept is still valid in the reform era and remains upheld after the 1945 Constitution amendment. The debate on Indonesia's national protection and security system has been a fundamental issue from independence to the reform era, covering national security, protection, safety functions, and policies. Implications for education include integrating national defense topics in schools to foster public awareness and participation, contributing to a well-informed, participatory society.
