Abstract

Alternative energy sources are one of the materials in physics that are very close to their application in daily life. Awareness of the importance of understanding in the era of rapid technological progress in the concept of alternative energy sources needs to be built with learning that actively involves students, one of which is project-based learning. This study aims to analyze the needs of teachers in the implementation of team-based projects with the Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS) approach on alternative energy source materials, in order to train students' creativity. The method used was a questionnaire and interview involving 38 physics teachers. The results show that teachers need learning that integrates team-based projects with the SETS approach because only 50% of teachers have used project-based learning on alternative energy sources. In addition, 89% of teachers face various obstacles in the implementation of project-based learning, including inadequate time allocation, low critical thinking of students, and poor teacher planning. Based on these findings, it is suggested that there is a need for more comprehensive teacher learning innovations and the preparation of more structured teaching modules. In addition, support from the school in terms of facilities and time management is needed to maximize the effectiveness of team-based project learning with the SETS approach. This effort is expected to improve the quality of learning and students' creativity in understanding alternative energy source materials.

Abstract

In the context of religious education, the effectiveness of sermons can be measured by how well the congregation can understand, remember, and apply the teachings delivered. Aspects such as the quality of delivery, the use of easy-to-understand language, the relevance of the topic to the congregation's life, and the frequency of attendance at services can be important factors that influence learning outcomes. This study explores the influence of Sermon Quality and Frequency of Congregation Attendance on Congregation Understanding and Knowledge in Tanah Toraja churches. Using the Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method, this model testing was carried out to see the value of R Square, Q2, Model Fit, and the test of influence between variables, this study analyzed data obtained from a sample of 144 congregations selected purposively. The results showed that both sermon quality and frequency of attendance had a significant influence on increasing congregational understanding and knowledge, with sermon quality having a more dominant influence. These findings underscore the importance of high-quality sermon delivery and consistent congregational attendance to support a deeper understanding of religion. Based on these results, it is recommended that churches improve training for preachers and create an environment that encourages regular congregational attendance, in order to strengthen their religious knowledge and understanding.

Abstract

Teacher development programs have been commonly done for teachers in formal language learning contexts, meanwhile in non-formal contexts, such as language courses, the teacher development program has not yet been widely known, despite the variety of benefits that teacher development programs give to teachers. Thus, this research analyzes the teacher development program in Kampung Inggris language courses through qualitative studies using interviews with nine teachers from four language courses. Results suggest that teacher development programs in the four language courses can be categorized into skill learning, sharing, and mentoring. Skill learning includes drilling, evaluation, and e-courses while sharing and mentoring involve peer-teacher sharing programs and consultation with CELTA-certified teachers The findings also indicated that teachers still need more teacher development programs that are not yet given by the language courses management. Thus, the study suggests further analysis of this issue and more opportunities for teachers in non-formal language learning programs to develop their teaching skills.

Abstract

Since the universalisation of inclusive education in 1994 at the United Nations Salamanca Conference in Spain, teachers globally have been grappling with how to implement it. Inclusive education calls for adoption of inclusive pedagogical approaches that are learner-centred. In order to do justice to diverse learners in today’s heterogeneous classroom populations, a solid and in-depth understanding of the philosophy of inclusion is a pre-requisite for all classroom practitioners. This qualitative study therefore aims to examine the understanding of inclusion in education of pre-service primary school teachers who graduated from a public university in Zimbabwe as the context for proposing strategies to enhance their professional preparation. Sixteen graduate pre-service primary school teachers who were purposively sampled from Masvingo province’s selected university that proffers pre-service teacher education. A triangulation of data gathering instruments of face-to-face individual interviews, document analysis and non-participant observation complemented by a follow-up discussion was adopted. Data gathered was thematically analysed and established several findings. The chief finding was that, university graduate pre-service primary school teachers had differing and inadequate understandings of the philosophy of inclusion in education that culminated into haphazard implementation of inclusive education as they had various practices.

Abstract

In this study, we investigate mathematical misconceptions, particularly prevalent among high school students, and offer solutions. The primary aims of our research include identifying the most common mathematical misconceptions, uncovering their underlying causes, and evaluating research-based solutions that have successfully addressed these issues. For this study, data were collected using a mixed-methods approach in Stirling Schools operating throughout Iraq. Data were gathered via a diagnostic test, as well as teacher interviews and classroom observations. The test revealed conceptual, procedural, and application problems, while interviews and observations gave qualitative information about the sources of misunderstandings and teaching tactics. The data analysis blended quantitative mistake classification with qualitative theme analysis to provide a complete picture of misunderstandings and effective training approaches. In light of the data obtained, we can state that misconceptions typically stem from a lack of conceptual understanding, over-reliance on procedural methods, and contextual misunderstandings. Additionally, it has been shown that conceptual education, visual aids, and peer-supported learning help eliminate mathematical misconceptions. These valuable findings hold significant implications for educators seeking to improve students' mathematical knowledge by emphasizing the importance of concept-based learning and providing opportunities for re-education. Through this study, we offer key insights into how widespread mathematical misconceptions can be effectively addressed, contributing meaningfully to mathematics education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of education in supporting women's empowerment in rural Aceh, understand the challenges they face, and see how education can be a tool to strengthen their position in the social structure without bumping up against traditional and religious values. Through a qualitative approach, this study explores the main factors that influence women's access to and participation in formal and non-formal education, including socio-cultural and economic barriers. This conceptual model identifies key components such as the role of local educational institutions, local values (such as mutual cooperation and religious teachings), and community and family support in improving access to education for women. The findings show that education has an optimal impact on women's involvement in social and economic life, allowing them to play a greater role outside the domestic sphere. However, various challenges such as conservative views and the lack of inclusive policies are still obstacles. With the existence of supportive policies and the integration of local values in education, it is hoped that women's empowerment in Aceh can be realized sustainably. This study is expected to contribute to the formulation of more inclusive education policies for women in rural Aceh.

Abstract

This qualitative research is a Critical Discourse Analysis of the ways in which language is used by people in the Shona society when giving women marital advices. It specifically identifies harmful Shona phrases used when advising women on marital issues, examines how the phrases reinforce the oppression of women in the Shona society and the repercussions of using such phrases on women. Results of the research indicate that the phrases used when giving women marital advice reinforce the oppression of women as they limit women’s access to education and economic opportunities, perpetuate gender stereotyping, victim blaming, emotional blackmail, sexism and misogyny, male dominance and gendered expectations. Findings reflect that using these phrases on women make them give up on their educational goals, tolerate and normalise abusive behaviours and hang in abusive marriages which is detrimental to their physical and emotional health. Results help raise awareness among policy makers about the sources of gender oppression and inequality as gender equality is a topical issue within Zimbabwe and the world over. Results also raise awareness among people about how the language they use when advising each other on marital issues can reinforce systems of oppression, patriarchal beliefs, gender inequality and intolerance.
