Jurnal Komunikasi Islam is the flagship journal, published biannually in June and December, of Islamic Communication and Broadcast Department, Dakwah and Communication Faculty, Islamic State University of Sunan Ampel (UINSA) Surabaya in collaboration with Indonesian Professional Dakwah Association (APDI). Jurnal Komunikasi Islam provides academic articles to the professional needs of both Islamic communication scholars and practitioners. The journal helps encourage in disseminating empirical and theoretical research findings, developing theory, and introducing new concepts related to Islamic oration and sermon, Islamic Journalism, mediated-dakwah and religious film, Islamic communication-related studies to its readership.

Abstract

This article reports on a library research regarding the behaviour changes of Indonesian muslim resulted from the Covid 19 pandemic. Using Henri Lefebvre's theory of public space, this study has found that, first, the changing of social-diversity that creates a new space dimension, it is the private space; second, the behaviour of social-diversity in private space showed the pattern of Islamic hyper-locality which is a form of Islam Locality with its different attribute and character; third, Islamic hyper-locality leads any confrontation of muslim groups who want to beg the public space and its religious activities; forth, the distortion of the value of Universal Islam and uncapability in facing the global war.

Abstract

This study examines the factors that influence teenager women Muslims (muslimah) of K-Pop fans' behavior in Surabaya regarding impulsive buying, the role of Twitter in eliciting their impulsive buying behavior, and to comprehend their under­standing about the impact of impulsive buying as well. Using a virtual ethnographic approach, the findings have revealed that that impulsive buying behavior was influenced by friendship and the convenience facilities provided by Twitter related to informa­tion and promotions about K-Pop merchandise. This gave rise to a new culture of impulsive buying. However, teenager Muslim women of K-Pop fans are actually aware that impulsive buying behavior violates religious norms. Therefore, their behavior in purchasing K-Pop merchandise is based on rational choices.

Abstract

Currently some da'wah activists are creating da'wah content channels on Youtube and other social media. This study aims to explore the strategy of viralization of the preaching content of Ustadz Abdul Somad, Gus Miftah and Gus Nur on the Youtube channel. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and through observation and documentation techniques, the results of this study reveal that the da'wah video content created by those three Islamic preachers that are considered viral have characteristics, first, the da'wah messages contain a conflict dimension that are likely to attract the curiosity of the audience. Second, technically the da'wah video content has an interesting title, offers a novelty theme, containing humor, answers religious issues clearly, and has quality da'wah material. Third, the da'i must be credible and have a da'wah strategy that is in accordance with the mad'u's needs.

Abstract

Religion is frequently presented as a source of conflict in a plural society on the political stage. In truth, the essence of goodness may be found in every religious teaching, including Islam. To alleviate tensions between two cultural communities, one's ability to express religiously inclusive messages to other parties is critical. This paper examines how Sjafruddin Prawiranegara interprets inclusive Islamic values both philosophically and practically. Using a qualitative approach and intercultural communication perspective, this studi has revealed that Sjafruddin intends to portray Islam as accepting and beneficial, with pleasant and appreciating contacts with individuals of the same religion or different religions.

Abstract

Islamic proselytising (da'wah) is one of the affected-activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. The da'wah activities which are usually carried out in mosques through majlis taklim had to be stopped due to coronavirus disease, well-known as Covid-19 pandemic. This paper examines the creative da'wah efforts carried out by da'wah actors (da'i) during the pandemic period. This article argues that many da'i had undrgone Islamic preaching creatively during pandemics by utilising various digital media, through spoken (bil-lisan) and written (bil-qolam) methods, including using virtual meeting applications. The use of online applications, da'wah is able to reach wider mad'u (audience) campared to offline da'wah.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the moral teachings contained in the collection of short stories (cerpen) of Idrus. By using hermeneutic analysis, this study shows that Idrus' short stories convey moral teachings regarding patriotism, nationalism, lifestyle, social criticism, and faith in Allah Swt. Specifically, these teachings encompases sincerity, fortitude fortitude where calamity is a warning and a trial from Allah swt., teachings about justice and believing in Allah as well as Muhammad is the messenger of Allah swt. Although the da'wah material conveyed through these writings was produced in accordance with the demands of the social conditions of the people at that time, namely the Japanese occupation period, it is still relevant today.

Abstract

This paper discusses how Hanan Attaki's da'wah innovation in Bandung in the perspective of dramaturgy theory. Research questions are answered using a literature study, with a historical and sociological analysis approach to Hanan Attaki's da'wah innovations through the work of other researchers and related sources. The results of the study show that Hanan Attaki has succeeded in embracing the motorcycle gang community in Bandung which has been synonymous with brawls and fights by taking several approaches, including through conveying messages in a contemporary style that is easily accepted by young people and through the involvement of young people in making da'wah activities on social media., such as Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.

Abstract

Taking sides in news coverage is considered as consequences of construction process of media reality. According to constructivist approach it is unlikely to avoid subjectivity within news production because of demand of traditional journalistic values such as newsworthy. This study seeks to examine the objectivity of Kompas television news coverage of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). Using a qualitative method and constructivist approach in analysing news stories that was linked to reconstruction interviews with journalist, this study found that news stories of FPI activism broadcast by Kompas TV during the 2016-2017 periods were inseparable from subjectivity of journalists while news-making, including resulted from agenda-setting in newsroom.
