Abstract

Not many western genre films are made in the film industry, because of not many ideas can be explored. The Dance With Wolves film is a western genre film and is not made as a religious film. This film also does not intend to include Islamic principles. The most interesting is that this western genre film was made with high imagination and creativity. By using the theory of genre from Branston and Stanford, it was then studied further through the concept and living rules in the Al-Qur'an and Hadith. The results of this study illustrated a struggle (jihad) in the elements of the story (repertoires of elements) that united and inspired feelings. Also in the verisimilitude genre theory, a statement of belief (ilmul yaqin) raised in the truth of Allah's creation. Furthermore, through the cultural context theory, it could be seen that at-tamaddun exists.

Abstract

Public sector leadership in Indonesia has always been an issue that is at the center of the attention of the Indonesian people. This has emerged since the reformation (1998) which gave birth to many leaders who were not found in the New Order era. This study uses a qualitative approach. Data sources are generated from literature (literature) interviews, documentation, and observations. Data analysis techniques use analytical techniques from Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which require components of analytical techniques whose data consists of data condensation, data presentation (data display) and drawing conclusions / verification (drawing and verifying Conclusion). The results are seen in 5 GCG perspectives of Andi Faisal Bakti (2000) and 8 principles of Asta Brata (Kakawin Ramayana). It was generally found that the leadership of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (BTP / Ahok) as Governor of DKI Jakarta was very contradictory to the principle of ASA Brata (sun, moon, wind, wealth, ocean, fire, death, and rain) based on a GCG perspective that characterizes transparency, consistency, agility, accountability, and communicability.DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/pjiap.v4i1.2272

Abstract

Abstract

The Salafist community, which is marginalized from mainstream media in Indonesia, represents the ideology of Salafus Salih through the mediatization of religion. Salafists originally preached traditionally but later utilized radio and television and then websites and social media. This ideological representation through the mediatization of religion increases the number of followers so that they can reproduce social formations to maintain the status quo. For this reason, this study aims to reveal how Salafists represent the conservative ideology of Salafus Salih through the mediatization of religion on Rodjatv's Instagram. Using a critical paradigm and mediatization of religion theory with virtual ethnographic methods, this study explains how the conservative ideology of Salafus Shalih in the mediatization of religion through three media metaphors, media as a channel, language, and environment, is instilled by the Salafi group to its followers. The results revealed that the Salafi da'wah content in Rodja's media interpellated the new Salafis and imitated the religious way of Salafus Salih while creating a large number of communities or congregations. The new Salafi followers then interpellated (re-interpellation) and imitated (reimitation) to the next follower. The series of re-interpellations and limitations ultimately constituted the Salafi da'wah and the ideological congregation of Salafus Salih

Abstract

Islam is a religion that upholds the values of justice and equal rights between men and women, but the understanding of the Indonesian Muslim community is still wrong with the teachings of Islam. One of the reasons includes misunderstanding of misogynistic hadiths, namely hadiths that editorially seem to demean women. This study aims to explore Islamic feminists’ rejection of the textual understanding of misogynistic hadiths to uphold gender justice. This Islamic feminist stance needs to receive support so that gender justice is in line with Islamic law. This research uses empirical qualitative methods by analyzing the theory of understanding hadith and gender theory. The study obtained data from interviews and a literature review. The respondents interviewed were academics, NGO activists, and community leaders, while the literature included journal articles, books, and Islamic textbooks on Islamic law. The study took place in Makassar City, Indonesia from September 2022 to March 2023. Findings reveal that Islamic feminists in Makassar City criticize the textual interpretations of misogynistic hadiths as they demean women’s dignity and are not in accordance with the values of Islamic teachings. If analyzed from a gender perspective, Islamic feminists have played an important role in fighting for gender equality in a religious context. Meanwhile, in the context of hadith understanding theory, a contextual approach is needed to provide a comprehensive understanding of society so that gender justice is realized. The contribution of this study is that the Islamic feminist perspective that reviews misogynistic hadith through a contextual approach helps provide inspiration and direction for other efforts to encourage social change and gender justice.

Abstract

Salafi is a transnational Islamic movement. In Indonesia, the spread of Salafism is influenced by graduates from the Middle East. As a conservative movement, the Salafi community in Jakarta has been different from its early days. Today they are a movement that enjoys modernity and negotiates its ideology. This research aims to investigate and analyze the occurrence of glocalization on the global ideology of the Salafi movement with local aspects in Jakarta, and to what extent this glocalization influences the transformation of their dakwah media to localize their ideology for acceptance on a local scale. This research uses the theory of glocalization through media by Jan Servaes and Rico Lie. The first concept of glocalization through media theory explains it from a transformationalist perspective. Second, this theory explains hybridization in glocalization. Third, it explains globalization, localization, and cultural identity. The three concepts in this theory become a reference in research related to the Salafi da'wah movement in Jakarta. The results of the discussion and analysis of the glocalization media of the Salafi da'wah movement in Jakarta show that in responding to globalization, the Salafi community at the Nurul Iman Blok M Square Mosque is transformationalist. They hybridize their global ideology by negotiating the Pancasila ideology which is a local ideology so that the process of glocalization of da'wah can be accepted by the local community. Through the media, one of their preachers also hybridizes ideology with a display that represents local symbols by wearing a black skullcap or national cap that is identical to the Indonesian cultural cap. Salafi communities in Jakarta also hybridize their fundamental ideology with media products as global or Western products in the context of media glocalization.

Abstract

This research examines gender representation in the animated series Nussa and Rara. It applies Gill Branston and Roy Stafford's "Questions of Representation" theory, which is elaborated into three concepts: stereotypes, gender representation, and positive and negative debates. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on the character Umma (the mother) as the research subject, while the representation of female leadership in the show serves as the research object. The data analysis employs Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis technique, with the unit of analysis including visual elements such as angles, settings, and gestures. The findings reveal that female leadership in Nussa and Rara is portrayed through the character of Umma. The stereotypes associated with female leadership are reflected in her capabilities. Gender representation highlights Umma's feminine traits while also emphasizing her leadership qualities. On the positive side, Umma is depicted as a competent leader, free from harmful gender stereotypes. However, the representation remains limited. It is crucial to recognize that stereotypes, generalizations, and leadership abilities should be evaluated based on individual experiences and competence rather than preconceived notions.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah is considered a radical conservative movement among the Malaysian Muslim community. The education system in Malaysia is generally exclusive. The majority of Malaysian society is resistant to the Muhammadiyah sect except in certain states. This research used the theory from Servaes and Malikhao, the modernization paradigm that influenced academia from 1945 to 1965 was supported by the transition of socio-political technology and culture from advanced societies to traditional societies. Development is explained as economic growth. The main idea in the modernization perspective shows that development is interpreted as first, planned, and overlapping. The results showed ideologically, the principle of progressive Muhammadiyah in establishing Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) cannot be separated from the role of the 47th Muktamar Muhammadiyah in Makassar. The congress was aimed at strengthening Muhammadiyah's Islamic vision, namely progressive Islam. Muhammadiyah launched an internationalization program, especially in the field of education, one of its implementations was by developing excellent educational centers abroad. Furthermore, Malaysia is considered the first step as a representative city center that excels in education and internationalization. Muhammadiyah is a movement that cares about Muslims so that they are not degraded by the progress of other nations, so public schools were founded and eventually became universities. This research concluded that the establishment of UMAM was a place to prove that Muhammadiyah is a progressive da'wah movement and builds society towards enlightenment. UMAM presents a superior lecture system with international standards through the use of technology. However, life is still based on Islamic values.
