Abstract

Generation Z as digital natives, has extensive access to financial technology such as digital wallets, paylater, and investment apps. However, this is not always accompanied by adequate financial literacy, creating a gap between knowledge and daily financial management practices. The core problem for Gen Z in Mekarjaya Village is a lack of understanding of digital financial management and long-term investment instruments. This problem is further complicated by limited access to information and financial literacy materials and the lack of adaptation to local conditions. Therefore, this community service activity aims to raise awareness among Gen Z in Mekarjaya Village, Pacet, regarding the importance of financial management in today's digital era. The goal of this activity is to provide applicable solutions for Gen Z to become more financially literate and better manage their finances. The method used in this community service is Participatory Action Research (PAR). Evaluation results after participating in this activity indicate that Gen Z increasingly understands that financial management is very important to learn from an early age. Although Gen Z's financial resources are still limited, this socialization can serve as a foundation and principle for Gen Z to manage their future finances stably and prosperously.

Abstract

The teaching of Arabic in international Islamic boarding schools, such as Madrasah Darul Huffah Johor, still faces significant challenges in improving students’ productive language skills, particularly in speaking and writing. This is due to the dominance of traditional methods that focus on memorization and grammar, without being supported by contextual and communicative approaches. In response to these issues, STIT Internasional Muhammadiyah Batam initiated a community service program through an International Community Service (KKN) initiative aimed at implementing more active, communicative, and practice-based methods for teaching Arabic language skills. The International KKN program conducted by STIT Internasional Muhammadiyah Batam at Madrasah Darul Huffah, Johor, Malaysia, serves as a form of international community engagement with the objective of enhancing the Arabic language skills of the students. The program focuses on the development of four core Arabic language competencies: listening (istima’), speaking (kalam), reading (qira’ah), and writing (kitabah), using an active and contextual teaching approach. The methods employed in the teaching process include the communicative approach, talaqqi method, the use of audiovisual media, and practice-based learning. The results of the program showed an increase in students' motivation and participation in learning Arabic, along with the creation of a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment. Moreover, this activity also strengthened educational collaboration between Indonesia and Malaysia and provided international experience for the students as future educators and agents of change. This community service initiative is expected to serve as a model for the development of applicable Arabic teaching methods within pesantren or madrasah environments based on global community contexts.

Abstract

Literacy is the basic ability to read, write, understand, and process information, which serves as an important foundation for lifelong learning. For children, literacy is crucial because it not only supports academic success but also develops critical and creative thinking patterns and the life skills needed for the future. Strengthening children's literacy through the establishment of Community Reading Gardens is a strategic effort to provide easily accessible reading access while creating an inclusive learning environment. The presence of reading gardens plays a crucial role in fostering reading interest, improving literacy skills, and supporting the creation of a culture of literacy within the community. Efforts to improve children's literacy in Tambakrejo Village are realized through the establishment of Community Reading Gardens, which provide easily accessible learning and reading spaces. The role of the Children's Forum as the driving force of activities also strengthens this program through mentoring and managing creative and participatory literacy activities. The synergy between the two parties is an important foundation in fostering a reading culture and expanding learning opportunities for children in the village.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the transformation of yard land into a community economic base can be realized through the lens of Jim Ife's empowerment theory with a local power approach, active community participation, and dimensions of social and ecological sustainability. With a qualitative approach and case studies, involving field observations, interviews and documentation. The core problem in this study is the suboptimal utilization of yard land as an economic resource in Blederan Village due to misperceptions about the function of yards, dependence on chemical farming, and the high percentage of landless households (76%). This causes the potential for saving Rp3,000/day per household on vegetables and increasing food security to not be fully utilized, so that an empowerment approach based on local potential through education and mentoring is needed to transform yards into productive assets that encourage community economic independence. The analysis uses Jim Ife's local power empowerment theory which shows the optimization of local strengths such as traditional wisdom, local natural resources, and social networks. The findings show an increase in household income, food security, and the development of collective social initiatives that are adaptive to ecological challenges. This transformation also strengthens environmental awareness and community solidarity, so that this empowerment model has the potential to become a sustainable strategy that synergistically integrates economic, social, and ecological aspects.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competence of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in implementing religious literacy in schools through a workshop activity. The background of this program is rooted in the fact that religious literacy plays a crucial role in shaping students’ religious character, yet it has not been fully integrated effectively into the learning process. The implementation method consisted of three stages: preparation (needs analysis and module development), workshop activities (lectures, discussions, simulations, and microteaching), and evaluation through pre-test, post-test, observation, and questionnaires. The results of the program indicated a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding and skills regarding the concepts and strategies of religious literacy implementation. In addition, workshop participants successfully developed follow-up plans to integrate religious literacy into classroom teaching. Therefore, this workshop proved effective in developing the competence of PAI teachers and in fostering a culture of religious literacy within the school environment.

Abstract

Koloman, as a religious tradition in Lawangan Daya Village, continues to be practiced conventionally and has not yet been optimal in instilling the values of religious moderation, resulting in vulnerability to exclusive views and limited understanding of tolerance and anti-extremism among the community. This community engagement project aimed to transform Koloman into a contextual Islamic educational medium, emphasizing the strengthening of understanding and the formation of moderate attitudes at the community level. The method applied involved participatory empowerment through dialogue, thematic discussions, creative training, and evaluation based on observation and pre-post tests with Koloman participants as the main subjects. The results demonstrate a significant increase in the understanding of religious moderation, more active participation among vulnerable groups, and the development of social networks between congregations which support the sustainability of moderation practices. This program proves that local traditions can be effective instruments in shaping a peaceful and inclusive community character.

Abstract

Waste management has become a complex national issue in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas such as Banda Aceh. The high volume of waste not only causes environmental problems but also triggers social conflicts within communities. This community engagement program aims to raise awareness and encourage citizen participation in waste management through development communication and environmental literacy approaches. The method used was descriptive qualitative, with data collected through interviews, observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs).The results show that the informal development communication approach, based on interpersonal interactions, has effectively increased active community involvement in managing waste at the household level. Waste literacy has improved, as reflected in behavioral changes such as waste sorting, compost production, and participation in the management of the 3R Waste Processing Site (TPS 3R). In addition to creating a cleaner environment, the program has also generated economic benefits through the reuse of waste into valuable products. The application of Capra’s ecoliteracy principles is evident in the participatory, holistic, and sustainable waste management practices. Due to its success, Gampong Lambung has received several awards, including the Proklim Madya (2019) and Proklim Utama (2020).

Abstract

The Community Service Program of Universitas Pelita Bangsa (UPB) in Karangrahayu Village was carried out as a form of community engagement through food diversification innovation based on catfish. Previously, Karangrahayu Village had no significant fisheries potential. However, with the initiative of the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), catfish ponds were established to support food security while boosting the village economy. The production of catfish has so far been limited to sales in fresh form or simple processing, resulting in relatively low added value. To address this issue, UPB Community Service students introduced marinated catfish products as a food diversification solution to increase processing variety, extend shelf life, and create new marketing opportunities. The program also aimed to provide education on modern processing techniques, enhance community skills, and encourage village economic empowerment. The implementation methods included a survey of local raw material potential, marination product development, and business opportunity analysis. The results show that marinated catfish has good consumer acceptance in terms of taste, aroma, and texture, as well as promising market prospects due to the utilization of local resources with low production costs. Therefore, the development of marinated catfish can increase added value, create job opportunities, and strengthen MSMEs in Karangrahayu Village.
