Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the bandongan method in enhancing students’ comprehension of kitab kuning at Pondok Pesantren Bani Saiman Yusuf. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of teachers and students involved in the learning process of kitab kuning. Data analysis is conducted thematically to depict patterns of teacher–student interaction, student engagement, and levels of understanding of kitab kuning materials. The findings indicate that the bandongan method is proven to be effective in improving students’ understanding of kitab kuning, particularly in terms of Arabic vocabulary mastery, textual meaning comprehension, and the ability to apply the teachings of the texts in daily religious practices. The key factors contributing to the success of the bandongan method include the teacher’s role as a facilitator, active student participation, and a systematic structure of material delivery. Although several challenges were identified such as variations in students’ Arabic literacy skills and decreased concentration during extended learning sessions strategies including material repetition, interactive question-and-answer sessions, and group discussions were found to effectively address these obstacles. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the bandongan method remains relevant and effective within the context of modern Islamic boarding schools, particularly when integrated with active student engagement, teacher competence, and appropriate instructional management strategies. This study offers significant implications for the development of kitab kuning instructional methods in pesantren and contributes to the existing literature by reinforcing the effectiveness of traditional pedagogical approaches in religious education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and examine the role of the administrators of Al-Iman Mosque in Jayapura in promoting the development of positive character among mosque-affiliated youth. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, employing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The participants in this study consisted of four mosque administrators and ten youth members of Al-Iman Mosque in Jayapura. Data analysis was conducted through four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that mosque administrators play three key roles in fostering the moral development (akhlaq) of youth, namely serving as moral role models, acting as facilitators of religious and social activities, and functioning as motivators who provide guidance and spiritual support tailored to the needs of young people. This guidance is delivered through consistent religious education (regular study circles), worship training, participation in social and religious activities, moral mentorship, and the application of Islamic practices in daily life. Factors contributing to the effectiveness of this guidance include the presence of a religious mosque environment, strong community support, and close emotional bonds between administrators and youth. Identified challenges include limited participation among some youth, the negative influence of digital media, and insufficient mentoring resources. The study concludes that the administrators of Al-Iman Mosque make a significant contribution to fostering the moral development of youth within the multicultural context of Jayapura. This research highlights the importance of strengthening character-building programs based on role modeling, dialogue, and social engagement to support the development of moral values among contemporary youth.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of character education through the habit of worship in Phase C students in grade 5 Andalusia at SD IT Cahaya Madani Pringsewu. Character education is an important part of the education process, especially at the elementary school level (SD), because this period is the initial phase of the formation of a child's personality. The habit of worship is seen as an effective means of instilling character values such as discipline, responsibility, and religiosity. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the habit of worship at SD IT Cahaya Madani Pringsewu includes routine activities such as dhuha prayer, morning prayer, recitation of the Qur'an, congregational prayer and sharing activities. These activities are able to shape students' character in terms of discipline, obedience, social concern, and responsibility. Supporting factors for the implementation of this habit are full support from teachers and parents, as well as a religious school environment. The inhibiting factors are the lack of consistency of students at home and the level of student understanding which is still diverse. This study concludes that the habit of worship is an effective strategy in forming students' character from an early age.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) is not merely concerned with the transmission of knowledge but with the transformation of values aimed at shaping moral character. Amid the currents of digitalization and social change, madrasahs are increasingly confronted with academic dishonesty and a weakening sense of responsibility, rendering teacher communication a strategic medium for the internalization of values within students’ everyday experiences. This study seeks to describe the forms and strategies of PAI teachers’ communication in cultivating honesty and responsibility, as well as to explore the meanings attributed by both teachers and students to this process. Employing a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological approach, the research was conducted at MTs Al-Ausath Karanganyar. Participants consisted of 2–3 PAI teachers and 5–6 seventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, passive participant observation, and documentation studies, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, supported by source triangulation and member checking. The thematic findings reveal four central axes of value-oriented communication: consistent role modeling, dialogical and contextualized advice, habituation accompanied by rational justification, and feedback that restores and sustains relational bonds. This study positions communicative experience as the primary analytical lens, shifting the focus from a mere inventory of techniques toward a shared meaning-making process through which values are enacted, experienced, and negotiated by teachers and students in the classroom.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country with a high level of religious diversity, making pluralism an inseparable social reality in societal life. Although Pancasila guarantees freedom of religion, differences in belief still have the potential to generate conflict, particularly when related to divergent theological interpretations within Islam. One group that frequently provokes debate is Ahmadiyya, whose presence has generated controversy in religious, social, political, and Islamic educational spheres. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a library research method. Data were collected from scholarly books, journal articles, official government documents, religious fatwas, and relevant prior studies, and were analyzed through content analysis within a social constructionist paradigm. The study discusses the history of Ahmadiyya ’s arrival and development in Indonesia, the characteristics of Ahmadiyya theology and its relevance in religious, social, and political contexts, as well as Islamic education perspectives on Ahmadiyya theology. The findings indicate that Ahmadiyya entered Indonesia in the early twentieth century and expanded through missionary networks, yet faced widespread rejection due to theological differences, particularly regarding the concept of prophethood. In the socio-political context, Ahmadiyya is positioned as a minority group vulnerable to discrimination, while in Islamic education it is understood as an object of critical study aimed at strengthening creed while fostering moderation and tolerance. The conclusion emphasizes that although Ahmadiyya theology is rejected theologically, it remains relevant as a socio- religious phenomenon that should be understood critically and with civility.

Abstract

Andalusia is a region that has a strategic position in the history of the development of Islamic civilization in the Western world. During the period of Islamic rule, especially under the rule of the Umayyad Caliphate in Cordoba, the region developed into a highly developed center of science and culture. Andalusia became a symbol of the glory of Islam through progress in various fields such as education, philosophy, science, art, and architecture. Collaboration between Muslim, Jewish, and Christian scholars created a process of scientific and cultural exchange that gave birth to tremendous intellectual progress. This article aims to examine the role of Andalusia in the spread of Islamic civilization values to Europe and its influence on the development of science modern. This research uses a literature review method by tracing classical and contemporary historical sources related to Islamic civilization in Andalusia. The results of the study show that Andalusia was not only the center of government, but also an intellectual link between the Islamic world and the West, which made a great contribution to the emergence of the Renaissance era in Europe. Thus, Andalusia can be seen as one of the main foundations for the formation of world civilization based on Islamic values.

Abstract

Islamic education has a long history of shaping human civilization through the integration of spiritual, intellectual, and social values. Throughout history, the Islamic education system has undergone a significant transformation from classical scientific traditions centered in mosques, madrasahs, and pesantren, to modern systems that emphasize the balance between religious and scientific knowledge. This transformation involves not only methodological changes but also a reconstruction of Islamic epistemology to address the challenges of modern times, including the digital era and globalization. This study employs a qualitative literature review approach, analyzing contemporary academic works published between 2019-2025. Findings indicate that modern Islamic education emphasizes the integration of knowledge (unity of knowledge), the strengthening of digital literacy, and the development of spiritual character aimed at communal well-being. The transformation of education in Islamic civilization is both a historical necessity and a philosophical evolution that must continue to align with global developments.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has a strategic role in shaping the personality of students as a whole through the development of intellectual, spiritual, moral, and social dimensions. In the midst of complex globalization and modernization challenges, PAI is required to function not only as a means of religious knowledge transfer, but also as a contextual, reflective, and character-building educational process. This research aims to analyze the philosophical and theological foundations as the foundation for the development of Islamic Religious Education and its implications for educational praxis. The research uses a qualitative approach with the library research method through the analysis of various scientific literature, books, and works of Islamic education thinkers. The results of the study show that the philosophical foundation plays a role in strengthening the rationality, relevance, and contextuality of PAI, while the theological foundation which includes monotheism, worship, morals, and the caliph provides normative and spiritual direction for education. The integration of the two foundations results in a holistic PAI model that is holistic, balanced, and adaptive to the dynamics of modern life. This research emphasizes that strengthening and integrating philosophical and theological foundations is the key to the development of sustainable and meaningful Islamic Religious Education.
