Abstract

In increasingly diverse school environments, Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) is supposed to foster tolerance while upholding students' religious beliefs. However, tolerance is frequently portrayed as a normative ideal without any pedagogical direction for dealing with actual interreligious interactions. In a multiple public school, this study explores how PAI serves as a pedagogical space for negotiating tolerance and defining the parameters of interreligious participation. A qualitative case study was conducted in class XI-9 at SMAN 1 Babadan, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with a PAI teacher, written reflections from two Muslim students and one non-Muslim student, classroom and school observations, and supporting documents. The findings reveal that students develop tolerance not only through classroom instruction but also through everyday interreligious interaction within the school community. School activities strengthen cooperation and mutual respect, while the teacher plays a central role in distinguishing social respect, epistemic openness, and ritual participation when responding to interreligious issues. The study concludes that tolerance becomes educationally meaningful when translated into contextual pedagogical practices that help students navigate real interreligious experiences without compromising their religious beliefs. These findings contribute to multicultural Islamic education by highlighting belief-boundary negotiation as a key pedagogical dimension of tolerance education in plural schools.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of the digital era has accelerated the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education, including the learning process in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Study Program at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. AI offers significant opportunities to improve learning effectiveness, yet its successful implementation depends on students' readiness to use it responsibly and effectively. This study aims to analyze the readiness of PAI students for the integration of AI in learning by examining their understanding, perceptions, and ability to utilize AI as an academic support tool. An explanatory sequential approach was employed, with data collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with PAI students, and documentation of AI-assisted learning activities. The findings indicate that most PAI students have positive perceptions and are receptive to the use of AI, particularly for conducting literature searches, completing academic assignments, and enhancing conceptual understanding. However, their readiness has not yet reached an optimal level due to limited digital literacy, insufficient understanding of academic ethics, and concerns about excessive dependence on AI. The study concludes that PAI students are generally prepared to integrate AI into learning, provided that digital competencies, ethical awareness, and Islamic values are continuously strengthened to ensure the responsible and meaningful use of AI in Islamic education.

Abstract

The swift advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted higher education, encompassing Islamic Religious Education (PAI). This research intends to evaluate the preparedness of Islamic Religious Education students at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan regarding the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence into learning based on Islamic principles. An explanatory sequential mixed-methods approach was utilized in this investigation, which comprised both quantitative and qualitative stages. The quantitative portion involved the collection of data via structured online questionnaires distributed to 109 currently enrolled PAI students, while qualitative insights were gathered through semi-structured interviews with chosen individuals to elaborate on the quantitative results. The quantitative data were examined using descriptive statistical methods (including frequency, percentage, and mean score), whereas the qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. The results indicate that students demonstrate relatively high digital readiness, particularly in technical competence and positive perceptions of AI. Ethical awareness toward AI utilization based on Islamic values also shows a high level, while adaptive readiness and critical AI literacy still require improvement. The qualitative findings reveal that Islamic values, institutional support, and lecturer guidance strengthen students' responsible use of AI in learning. This study concludes that successful AI integration in Islamic education requires not only technological competence but also ethical awareness and institutional support aligned with Islamic values.

Abstract

Bullying in elementary schools remains a persistent threat to children's psychological safety and academic development, yet most empirical studies on school-based bullying prevention have concentrated on secular public schools or on isolated interventions such as classroom counseling, peer-mediation programs, or single-shot anti-bullying campaigns. This study addresses that gap by examining how child-friendly, school-based management for bullying prevention is implemented at SD Muhammadiyah Bayen Sleman. The researcher employed a qualitative research design with a case study approach. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, and the collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that the school operationalizes a four-stage cycle, planning (hotspot mapping and a shared operational definition of bullying), organizing (formation of an anti-bullying team and expert-led training), implementing (curriculum integration across all subjects, not only guidance counseling, and habituation of Islamic character values), and controlling (periodic, collaborative evaluation). The results contribute a context-specific model of faith-integrated bullying prevention management that can inform both theory (by showing how religious values function as an integrating mechanism across management functions, rather than as a separate variable) and practice (by offering other schools, religious or secular, a replicable four-function cycle for building a child-friendly, bullying-free environment)

Abstract

Oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing) has emerged as a transformative reproductive technology, yet its ethical and legal standing remains contested in Muslim-majority societies where reproductive decisions are deeply embedded in Islamic normative frameworks. This article examines contemporary Islamic jurisprudential responses to egg freezing through a cross-institutional analysis of scholarly discourse on fatwas and classical fiqh positions from major authorities including the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS), and national fatwa committees in Indonesia and Malaysia. Employing a qualitative, library-based methodology, the study evaluates the compatibility of egg freezing with the foundational objectives of Islamic family law, particularly the preservation of lineage (ḥifẓ al-nasl), the protection of life (ḥifẓ al-nafs), and the safeguarding of human dignity (karāmah al-insān). Findings reveal an emerging juristic consensus permitting medically indicated egg freezing within a valid marital relationship, while social egg freezing remains deeply contested due to concerns over lineage ambiguity, marital continuity, and potential misuse following divorce or spousal death. This study contributes that a maqāṣid al-sharī'ah framework offers the most coherent normative basis for contemporary ijtihād on reproductive technologies, and concludes with recommendations for developing adaptive Islamic legal governance that upholds ethical integrity while accommodating responsible reproductive autonomy in an era of rapid biotechnological advancement.

Abstract

The implementation of the Love-Based Curriculum in Islamic schools requires effective learning management so that the values of Panca Cinta can be systematically integrated into the learning process. However, studies explaining the relationship between the learning management function, the values of Panca Cinta, and the factors influencing its implementation are still limited. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Love-Based Curriculum learning management and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in  Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri 2 Gorontalo Regency. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design involving 10 informants. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. Data validity was tested through source triangulation, technical triangulation, time triangulation, and member checking. The results showed that the implementation of the Love-Based Curriculum has been carried out through the functions of planning, organizing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating integrated with the values of Panca Cinta. Supporting factors include the leadership of the madrasah principal, teacher commitment, madrasah culture, collaboration with parents, and support for learning facilities, while inhibiting factors include differences in teacher understanding, limited learning time, diverse student characters, and suboptimal parental involvement. The novelty of this research lies in explaining the relationship between the function of learning management, the implementation of the Panca Cinta values, and supporting and inhibiting factors in implementing character-based learning in madrasahs.

Abstract

Good leadership is determined by the extent to which a principal is able to serve as a role model of integrity for the entire school community, because the effectiveness of education cannot be measured solely by academic achievement, but also by a leader’s ability to instill the value of honesty through consistent, tangible behavior. This study aims to analyze the role of transformational leadership based on the principal’s exemplary conduct as a strategy for internalizing the value of integrity in an integrated Islamic elementary school. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design to gain an in-depth understanding of the process of internalizing character values as it naturally unfolds in the field. Research participants were selected through purposive sampling, including the principal, vice principal, homeroom teachers, students, and parents, with the study conducted at SDIT Nuurul Fikri in Trenggalek, East Java. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, which were then reinforced through source triangulation and methodological triangulation to ensure the validity of the research findings. The main results of the study indicate that the process of internalizing the value of integrity occurs through three mutually reinforcing dimensions: the knowing the good aspect, rooted in the prophetic example of the Prophet Muhammad’s siddiq character; the feeling the good” aspect, which holds that honesty must begin with leaders; and the “acting the good” aspect, achieved through habitual practice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relevance of Ibn Miskawayh’s concept of morality to character education in Indonesia within the framework of Strengthening Character Education (Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter/PPK). The study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method. Data were obtained from Ibn Miskawayh’s major work, Tahdhīb al-Akhlāq wa Taṭhīr al-A'rāq, as well as relevant books, scholarly articles, and policy documents. The data were analyzed using content analysis through the processes of data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Ibn Miskawayh’s concept of morality, which emphasizes habituation (taʿwīd), exemplary conduct, self-control, and purification of the soul, has strong relevance to the implementation of PPK. The four principal virtues he proposed al-ḥikmah (wisdom), al-ʿiffah (self-control), al-shajāʿah (courage), and al-ʿadālah (justice) are closely connected to the five core values of PPK: religiosity, nationalism, independence, mutual cooperation, and integrity. This study contributes a conceptual synthesis that positions Ibn Miskawayh’s thought as a philosophical foundation for strengthening character education in Indonesia. Thus, integrating Ibn Miskawayh’s concept of morality with PPK can serve as an alternative approach to developing an educational system that is oriented not only toward academic achievement but also toward cultivating students who possess noble character, integrity, and the capacity to face the challenges of the digital era.

Abstract

Strengthening Islamic character is one of the main objectives of education that needs to be systematically implemented thru school culture. The challenges of technological development, social change, and the moral degradation of students demand educational institutions to create a learning environment that can continuously internalize Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the management of strengthening Islamic character thru school culture at SMA Negeri 4 Tualang. The research uses a qualitative approach with a field research type. Data were obtained thru observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, the vise principal in charge of student affairs, and Islamic Religious Education teachers as informants. Data analysis was conducted thru stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with triangulation techniques to ensure data validity. The research results show that the strengthening of Islamic character is carried out thru the organization of structured programs, clear task distribution, and coordination among all school members. The implementation of school culture is realized thru religious habituation, teacher role modeling, the integration of Islamic values in the learning process, as well as co-curricular and extracurricular activities that support the character formation of students. The success of the program is influenced by the commitment of school leaders, the exemplary behavior of teachers, the consistency of school culture, and collaboration between the school, family, and community, while the influence of social environments, the development of digital technology, and the heterogeneity of family backgrounds pose challenges in its implementation. This research concludes that a school culture managed systematically, consistently, and collaboratively is an effective strategy in strengthening students' Islamic character and supporting the creation of a religious and character-building educational environment.

Abstract

Illicit drug trafficking in the border regency of Banyuwangi, characterised by long coastlines and inter-island ferry routes, systematically undermines social and economic resilience, demonstrating the inadequacy of single-agency law enforcement. This study aims to explore in depth the dynamics of multi-stakeholder partnership that integrates government, private sector, academia, media, and community actors within the BNNK Banyuwangi drug prevention programme. A qualitative single-case study design was adopted, involving semi-structured interviews with twelve key participants, non-participant observation of coordination meetings and outreach activities, and analysis of partnership documents, analysed through reflexive thematic analysis. The analysis identified five reinforcing themes: government policy commitment, private sector resource participation, academic research contribution, digital media amplification, and community volunteer resilience, which collectively form an adaptive prevention ecosystem. The limited number of internal BNNK personnel emerged as a significant structural barrier, mitigated through community-based role substitution and digital campaign strategies. The study concludes that the partnership constitutes a social construction whose resilience rests upon inter-pillar trust and grassroots community empowerment. Practical implications include a replicable conceptual model for institutionalising cross-sector coordination forums and aligning corporate social responsibility with drug prevention in other high-vulnerability archipelagic regions.
