Zootec is a scientific periodical journal published by the Faculty of Animal Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University in 1995 with the print ISSN number 0852 – 2626. The focus of articles on Animal Sciences includes 1. livestock production, 2. Animal Feed and Nutrition, 3. Livestock Socio-Economics, 4. Animal Product Technology, 5. Animal Health, and 6. Potential pet wildlife Animal. Since its publication in Volume 38 number 1 of January 2018, it has been accredited with Rank 5 at the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education Republic of Indonesia, Number SK 28/E/KPT/2019 with eISSN number 2615-8698. Starting Volume 41 No 2 of July 2021 the Zootec Journal has changed the writing template from the previous writing template. The Zootec journal has been indexed by Google Scholar, SINTA, Crossref, Garuda. Article authors can send articles in Indonesian or in English via email: jzootek@yahoo.com to be considered for publication.

<![CDATA[This research was conducted in Pinabetengan village to calculate the prevalence and preference of tick infestations in cattle in Pinabetengan Village, Tompaso District, Minahasa Regency. This study uses the Purposive Random Sampling method. 64 cattles were used as samples. Collecting ticks starts from the head, neck, back, groin, legs, and tail, then put in a bottle containing 70% alcohol based on the body parts of the animal. Based on the result research  that 30 cattles were found to be infested of tick. Preferences of ticks on body parts of cattle show that at the groin is the most infestation of ticks. The tick infestation preference based on sex it turn out that female cattle are more often infested with tick. Based on the results and discussion it can be concluded that the cattle in the North Pinabetengan village infested with Boophilus microplus tick is 46.9%. Preference for tick infestation on the body parts that are most commonly found in the groin of cattle. Preference for tick infestation in female cattle is 4.38 ticks, while male cattle are 3.33 ticks.Keywords: Ticks, Infestations, Preference, Prevalence, Cow]]>

<![CDATA[AMPLIFICATION OF COI GENE FROM SNAKE BLOOD SAMPLES USING TWO UNIVERSALPRIMER PAIRS. This study aims to amplify COI (Cytochrome Oxidase Subunit I) gene fragments from snake blood. Four samples were obtained from four different snake individuals that were captured in Tapahan Telu Waterfall, Kali Village, Minahasa Regency. Total DNA from the sample was isolated and then the COI gene was amplified through the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) reaction using two primer pairs, LCO1490-HCO2198 and FF2d-FR1d. These four samples were successfully amplified using different primers, i.e. DRP1 and DRP3 by FF2d-FR1d and DRP2 and DRP4 by LCO1490-HCO2198 primers. The success of amplification marked by the presence of 710 bp (LCO1490-HCO2198) and 707 bp (FF2d-FR1d) bands, which were indicated by those bands were located close to the standard 750 bp DNA ladder. Key words: Snake, Amplification, COI gene, Primers, PCR]]>

<![CDATA[INTERNAL ORGANS CHAR ACTERISTICS OF NATIVE CHICKEN FED BY COCONUT OIL (Cocos nucifera) ON DIET. The research was carried to determine the internal organs characteristics of buras chickens fed coconut (Cocos mucifera) oil in diet. A total 100 unsexed buras chickens was used in this experiment. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replications (4 hens each). The data were subjected to analysis of variance, when the treatments indicated significant effect it was continued Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. Five dietary treatments containing 0, 0.5%, 1 %, 1,5%, and 2% levels of coconut oil (CO) with five replicates were applied to chickens. Parameters measured were body weight, heart, liver, pancreas and gizzard weight. Result showed that CO in the ration significantly increased the body weight (P<0.01) but did not affect to heart weight, liver weight, pancreas weight and gizzard weight.(P>0.05) It can be concluded that coconut oil in the diet can’t increase the internal organ characteristics. <![CDATA[CARCASS AND ABDOMEN FAT PERCENTAGES IN BROILERS FED RATION COMBINED WITH HERBAL DAN ZINC MINERAL Study was done to evaluate carcass quality of broilers fed ration combined with herbal and zinc mineral. Hundred broilers were randomly divided into four treatments with five replications in each treatment. Each unit was placed five day old chicks. Treatments were consisted of basal ration (R1), basal ration added with 1.5 % of turmeric and 180 ppm of Zinc (R2), basal ration added with 2.5 % of white onion and 180 ppm of Zinc (R3), and basal ration added with anti biotic (R4). Results showed that combination of herbal and zinc mineral affected significantly the carcass and abdomen fat in broilers. Therefore, it can be concluded that combinations of turmeric or white onion and zinc mineral produced ideal carcass and abdomen fat in broilers. Key Words: Abdomen fat, broiler, carcass, herbal, zinc.]]>

<![CDATA[THE INFLUENCE OF THE USE OF BANANA HUMP SHOES (Musa paradisiaca L) IN RATION ON THE PERCENTAGE OF CARCASS AND ABDOMINAL FAT IN BROILER CHICKEN. This study aims to determine the extent of the effect of using banana hump shoes (Musa Paradisiaca) in rations on carcass and abdominal fat in broiler chickens. This study was conducted using 100 unsexed Cobb broiler chickens (PT. Charoen Pokhpand), with an average body weight of 837 grams. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. Arrangement of the experimental treatment as follows: Râ‚€= 55% corn + 0% banana hump shoes, Râ‚= 50% corn + 5% banana hump shoes, Râ‚‚= 45% corn + 10% banana hump shoes, R₃= 40% corn + 15% banana hump shoes. The results showed that there was no significant difference (P>0,05) on the percentage of carcass and abdominal fat in broiler chickens. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the use of banana shoe hump in rations up to 15% produces a good percentage of carcass and abdominal fat. Keywords: broiler chicken, banana hump shoes, percentage of carcass and abdominal fat. ]]>

<![CDATA[FACTORS AFFECTING THE ALLOCATION OF CAPITAL ASSISTANCE IN HOUSEHOLD CATTLE BREEDER IN DISTRICT WEST TOMPASO. The purpose of this research is to analyze the factors that are influencing farmer households’ decision making in allocating financial assistance for livestock production in West Tompaso sub-district, Minahasa regency. This research applies surveying method among 30 household samples. Data collecting was done in October until November 2018. Data analysis is proceeded by using simultaneous equation analysis. The result of this research shows that financial assistance allocation for cattle business is 39,76% and the rest 60,24% is the allocation for any farming businesses other than cattle business. The financial assistance for cattle business is significantly influenced by the amount of financial assistance given, feeder cattle value and the allocation of financial assistance for farming businesses other than cattle business. Meanwhile, the allocation of financial assistance for farming businesses other than cattle business is significantly influenced by the amount of financial assistance received and the allocation of the financial assistance for cattle business.Keywords: Allocation, Financial Assistance, Beef Cattle.]]>

<![CDATA[ANALYSIS OF PIG FARMING IN SONDERDISTRICTMINAHASA REGENCY. Pigs are developed by the community in Minahasa Regency as a business that supports the livestock farmers' economy. The development of pig farming in this area was carried out in order to increase consumption of animal protein. The problem is that the development of pig farms is not continuous and there have not known factors that influence pork production. This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing production factors that influence the production of pig farming in Sonder District, Minahasa Regency. Survey method was used with direct observation in the field. Sources of data collected are primary and secondary data. Location samples and respondents were determined by using of Cluster Random Sampling metho. Data analysis was conducted by useing descriptive analysis. The results showed that pigs were sold in the form of seeds (starter period pigs) and pork per kg. The price of seeds is Rp. 900,000 per head and the price of pork is Rp. 60,000 per kg. Based on the study  results showed that the factors such as feed, labor and cage simultaneously had a significant effect on pig production. Keywords: Pigs, cages, labor, feed]]>

<![CDATA[ROLE OF CATTLE PIGS COUNSELORS MAINTENANCE OF LOCAL DISTRICT IN THE VILLAGE GUMBO TIOMNERI LANNY JAYA REGENCY. The study aims to determine characteristics and breeders perception toward extension activities in the District Gumbo village Tiomneri Lanny Jaya Regency Research has implemented since December, 1th until January 31th 2018 using survey method.  Twenty two of pig breeders in the village pig farmers Gumbo Tiomneri District of Lanny Jaya Regency was selected by census as sample of respondents. Data analysis using scale of likert Study results indicated that breeders perception of the role of agriculture extension agent as a motivator and facilitator in the District Gumbo village Tiomneri Lanny Jaya Regency was already optimal, or in other words the role of extension officers in performing their duties was already good. <![CDATA[ABSTRACT ANALYSIS OF CONSUMER BUYING PREFERENCES IN BROILER MEAT AT TRADITIONAL MARKET IN MANADO CITY (CASE STUDY OF THE "PINASUNGKULAN KAROMBASAN MARKET"). The goals of this study was to analyze consumer preference and attitude on attribute variation of broilers at the traditional market in Manado. Study was conducted at the Pinasungkulan market, Karombasan Manado on February 2019. Survey method was used  by deep interview supported by questionnaire. Samples were defined by accidental sampling method involving fifty respondents. The primer and secondary data were used in this study and analyzed by Chi-Square and Multi attribute Fishbein analysis. The Chi-Square analysis indicated that all attributes studied were significantly different. This was meaning that there were differences of consumers preference on broilers. On the basis of Multi attribute Fishbein analysis indicated that all broiler attribute were considered by consumers in making decision of buying broilers. Broilers were became consumer preference significantly at the Pinasungkulan Market, meaning that there was difference of consumer preference on broiler attributes. Sequences of broiler attribute from the highest consideration to the lowest consideration were meat color, skin color, meat smell, skin tenderness and meat weight. Consumer attitude on broiler meat attributed in decision of buying meat of broilers was broiler meat color.  Keywords: Broiler, consumer preference]]>

<![CDATA[REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE BEEF CATTLE OF ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION IN THE DISTRICT OF NORTH TOMBATU AND SUB DISTRICT OF RATAHAN.  The porpose of this study to know appearance of reproduction beef cattle artificial insemination in the northern Tombatu District and the Sub District of Ratahan in the Southeast Minahasa Regency. Research the everage valve standard deviation and coefficient of diversity. Based on research results that service preconception 1.25-1.30, conception rate 70-75%, calving interval 366.4-377.55 and length of pregnancy 279.25-281.1 day. It can be colcluded that the reproductive performance of artificial insemination beef cattle in North Tombatu and Ratahan Districts already quite good. Keywords: Reproduction, beef cattle, artificial insemination]]>
