Abstract

This research explores the role of local community participation in tourism development, with a focus on the Cap Go Meh festival in Singkawang. The main objective is to assess how government and community involvement can improve sustainable tourism while preserving local culture and identity. This research uses an empirical method approach, utilizing primary data collected through questionnaires, interviews and secondary data from literature to analyze the impact of tourism on local communities. Research results show that while tourism presents economic opportunities, many local residents remain unaware of its benefits, highlighting a significant gap in understanding. This research emphasizes the need to integrate local cultural elements into tourism strategies to foster a sense of belonging among residents. It also addresses challenges such as social conflict and the need for better marketing to attract visitors. Conclusions drawn from this research indicate effective tourism development requires a collaborative approach involving local stakeholders, including government, business and community members. Recommendations include increasing public education about the benefits of tourism and promoting cultural heritage as a major attraction. By prioritizing local engagement and sustainable tourism, this research suggests that tourism can be a powerful tool for economic growth and cultural preservation, ultimately leading to more enriching experiences for visitors and local residents. This holistic approach is very important to ensure that tourism development is in line with the aspirations and needs of the community, encouraging a sustainable tourism model in Singkawang City.

Abstract

The shift from mass tourism to alternative tourism is oriented towards activities centred on natural or local cultural experiences, with the primary aim of enhancing awareness, adventure, and learning. In light of this trend, the government of Booi village on Saparua Island in Central Maluku has begun to pay attention to the development of tourism in Booi by initiating the formulation of a tourism development plan for the area. This research employs a qualitative descriptive research method, wherein the data presented predominantly takes the form of descriptions regarding the types and characteristics of potential tourist attractions (natural, cultural, artificial) obtained through observations, interviews, focus group discussions, literature reviews, and document examinations. Booi village possesses distinctive potential and uniqueness in its tourist attractions, notably the opportunity to experience the unique lifestyle and traditions of the Booi community, encompassing activities such as local living patterns, agricultural practices, and fishing. Based on the previously discussed identification of tourism potential, it is evident that Booi village meets several criteria for tourism development. The findings of the research indicate that significant opportunities for tourism development in Booi are predominantly characterised by Cultural Tourist Attractions, specifically Historical and Cultural Tourism. In the development of a tourist village in Booi, it is anticipated that the concept of Community-Based Tourism will be employed, whereby management and operations are conducted by the local community, alongside the principles of sustainable tourism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of experiential marketing and service quality on tourists’ revisit intention to the Jatim Park 1 destination in Batu City, East Java. As one of the most popular educational tourism destinations in Indonesia, Jatim Park 1 faces challenges in maintaining visitor loyalty amidst the increasingly competitive tourism industry. Experiential marketing is considered capable of creating enjoyable and memorable experiences through sensory, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and social relationship elements. Meanwhile, service quality reflects the destination’s ability to meet visitor expectations through friendly, responsive services and adequate physical facilities. This research employs a quantitative approach with an explanatory design. The respondents were tourists who had visited Jatim Park 1 more than once within the past three years. The results indicate that both experiential marketing and service quality have a positive influence on revisit intention. Experiential marketing proves to have a more dominant influence, but service quality still plays an important role in shaping visitor satisfaction and perceptions. Therefore, experience-based marketing strategies supported by high-quality services are considered effective in enhancing tourist loyalty and can serve as a reference for the development of other tourism destinations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze substituting date puree (Phoenix dactylifera) as a sugar replacement in the production of dodol, based on hedonic test and hedonic quality test by panelists preferences. The research background based on the high consumption of added sugar, thus requiring healthier natural sweetener alternatives. The research method used an experimental design with three formulations: 0% date puree, 50% date puree, and 100% date puree. Organoleptic test were carried out by trained and semi-trained panelist, evaluating aspect of color, aroma, taste, and texture using a 1-5 hedonic scale. Analysis was performed using Kruskal-Wallis test. The analysis revealed that the 50% date puree formulation received the highest preference scores for taste and texture, while the 100% substitution produced a stronger color and aroma but was less favored by some panelists. These findings highlight that date puree can be effectively used as a natural sweetener in dodol with good consumer acceptance. This study expands to the innovation of Indonesian traditional food and supports healthier dietary patterns.

Abstract

This study examines Pisang Epe, a traditional grilled banana snack from Makassar, as a representation of local culinary identity and as a key attraction within the city’s emerging gastronomic tourism. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through participant observation at Pantai Losari, in-depth interviews with vendors and tourists, and analysis of promotional materials and social media content. The analysis explores how historical–geographical, gastronomic, and socio-cultural dimensions are articulated through this food. Findings show that Pisang Epe embodies coastal agrarian heritage while being strongly anchored to Pantai Losari, creating a distinctive sense of place for residents and visitors. Its simple but specific preparation techniques and sensory characteristics construct an authentic culinary identity that differentiates it from other banana-based products, even as contemporary toppings are introduced to meet changing tourist preferences. The study also reveals that consumption of Pisang Epe functions as a social ritual that mediates interaction between locals and tourists, enhances memorable tourism experiences, and supports the livelihoods of micro and small enterprises. Overall, Pisang Epe contributes to strengthening Makassar’s city branding as a gastronomic destination and demonstrates how everyday street food can be strategically leveraged in culturally grounded and sustainable culinary tourism development.

Abstract

This study maps the knowledge structure of Sustainable Community Based Tourism (SCBT) through a bibliometric and network analysis using data extracted from the Scopus database on 14 October 2025. The search string “Sustainability” AND “Community Based Tourism” was applied to identify relevant publications. Biblioshiny (R-Studio) was employed to examine publication trends, collaborative networks, and thematic structures within the field. The findings reveal a steady expansion of SCBT research, particularly after 2015, with strong contributions from Asia and increasing interdisciplinary integration. Co authorship and institutional network analyses indicate growing collaboration, though geographical imbalances remain evident. Keyword cluster mapping highlights dominant themes such as community participation, environmental conservation, governance, and digital transformation. The analysis also exposes persistent gaps, including limited cross regional perspectives and insufficient integration of sustainability, technology, and community empowerment into unified frameworks. This study offers a structured overview of the intellectual landscape of SCBT and provides recommendations to guide future research directions.

Abstract

This study examines sustainability and branding strategies in preserving Gula Gending as a form of gastronomic heritage from the perspective of local wisdom and cultural identity. Gula Gending represents a traditional culinary product that reflects cultural values and community-based practices. The study aims to analyze how traditional production processes, branding approaches, and community involvement support heritage preservation within the gastronomy sector. A qualitative method was employed using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving producers and local stakeholders. Data were analyzed descriptively and supported by SWOT analysis to identify internal and external factors influencing branding and sustainability efforts. The findings indicate that authentic production methods, strong cultural narratives, and storytelling-based branding strengthen product identity and perceived value. However, challenges remain related to limited production scale, market access, and brand awareness. This study demonstrates that sustainability-oriented branding can play a strategic role in preserving gastronomic heritage while reinforcing cultural identity and supporting local economic resilience.
