Abstract

The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), driven by social media use, particularly TikTok, has raised ethical concerns among students, including excessive dependence on digital media, an intensified desire for social recognition, and changes in attitudes, language use, and behavior within the school environment. These conditions present significant challenges to students’ ethical development in the digital era. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) teachers in shaping and internalizing students’ Islamic ethics amid the phenomenon of FOMO associated with TikTok use at SMA Darussalam Adijaya. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with IRE teachers and students, and documentation. The findings indicate that IRE teachers play a strategic role as educators, mentors, role models, and moral guides in shaping students’ ethical development. Islamic ethical values, including proper conduct in social media use, responsibility, moderation, and self-control, were integrated into classroom instruction and school religious activities. Ethical reinforcement was also implemented through advice, habituation, and persuasive approaches to encourage students to manage their TikTok use wisely and proportionately. The findings imply that strengthening the role of IRE teachers is essential as a moral safeguard for students in navigating the challenges of digital culture. Therefore, schools should continuously support the integration of Islamic values-based digital literacy into IRE instruction to foster students’ ethical awareness, self-regulation, and responsible engagement with social media.

Abstract

The low level of Qur'an reading ability among students remains a significant obstacle in achieving the objectives of Islamic Religious Education. Conventional classroom-centered instruction often limits teachers’ ability to provide individual guidance in correcting students’ reading errors. This study aims to describe the implementation of the sorogan method and to analyze the challenges encountered in improving Qur'an reading skills at the junior high school level. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the sorogan method is implemented through individual Qur'an reading sessions in front of the teacher, allowing immediate correction of reading mistakes. The application of this method contributes to improvements in reading fluency, accuracy in applying tajwid rules, and students’ self-confidence. The challenges identified include limited instructional time, differences in students’ ability levels, and varying degrees of learning discipline. Overall, the sorogan method proves to be an effective approach as it provides personal attention and direct feedback in the process of learning to read the Qur'an

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation and effects of Artificial Intelligence Text-to-Speech (AI TTS) technology on the beginning reading abilities of Grade 2B students at SD Al Qur’an Roudlotut Tholibin. This technology can support beginning readers in establishing the relationship between letters, words, and sounds while enhancing interactive and independent learning. The study was conducted at SD Al Qur’an Roudlotut Tholibin over approximately 15 days and involved 15 Grade 2B students (6 boys and 9 girls), the classroom teacher, and the school principal. Data were collected through observation, interviews, beginning-reading tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion verification, supported by source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the implementation of AI TTS was effective and systematically organized, progressing from letters and syllables to words and simple sentences. Teacher guidance was provided throughout the learning process to ensure accurate pronunciation, appropriate intonation, and reading comprehension. The assessment results showed that 2 students were categorized as less fluent, 4 as moderately fluent, 7 as fluent, and 2 as highly fluent readers. Most students demonstrated good reading abilities, while those who initially experienced difficulties showed gradual improvement throughout the learning process. The use of AI TTS contributed to improvements in reading fluency, pronunciation accuracy, reading comprehension, and students’ learning interest.

Abstract

This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using field research conducted in RT 005/RW 003, Purwosari Subdistrict, Metro Utara District, Metro City. Research participants were selected purposively and included religious leaders, community elders, and residents actively involved in kenduri activities. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation and were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the kenduri tradition embodies four major dimensions of Islamic educational values: faith (aqidah), worship (ibadah), social values, and morality (akhlak). These values are reflected in collective prayers and dhikr, Yasin recitation and tahlil, mutual cooperation (gotong royong), as well as attitudes of mutual respect and social concern. Thus, the kenduri tradition functions not merely as a cultural practice but also as a relevant and sustainable medium for Islamic education rooted in local wisdom. It provides a culturally contextualized approach to transmitting Islamic values while simultaneously strengthening social cohesion and religious character within the community.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in developing multicultural values at SMK Negeri 1 Raman Utara, East Lampung. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques including non-participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Subjects included the principal, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, and 10th-grade students. The results indicate that Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers act as facilitators, mentors, motivators, learning managers, and role models in instilling the values of tolerance, justice, anti-discrimination, and brotherhood. Multicultural values are developed through the integration of tasamuh (tolerance) material into learning, group discussions, case studies, and the promotion of mutual respect. Supporting factors include a conducive school culture and cooperation among school members, while inhibiting factors stem from differences in student understanding and the influence of the external environment. In conclusion, this study highlights that the active role of Islamic Religious Education teachers is crucial in shaping students’ multicultural awareness and tolerant attitudes. The findings contribute to the development of inclusive and value-based learning practices in Islamic education, particularly in strengthening character education and fostering harmonious relationships within diverse school communities.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the phonological interference of the Madurese language on the English pronunciation of students at Islamic Boarding School Raudlatul Ulum 2. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach focusing on identifying forms of phonological interference that appear in students' speaking skills, both in segmental and suprasegmental aspects. Data were obtained through audio recordings of students' speaking practice, classroom observations, and brief interviews. A total of 1,071 phonetic transcriptions were analyzed using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). The results showed 441 pronunciation errors, or 41.18%. The most dominant type of error was sound substitution (18.49%), followed by addition (11.77%), omission (6.72%), and combination (4.20%). Additionally, suprasegmental disturbances were found in the form of incorrect word stress placement, flat intonation, and unnatural speech rhythm. These findings indicate that the phonological system of the Madurese language exerts a strong influence on students' English pronunciation. Therefore, phonological interference becomes a major challenge in teaching English speaking within the Islamic boarding school environment

Abstract

The development of social media has influenced adolescents’ social and emotional experiences, particularly through Instagram use and the emergence of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). This study aimed to examine the role of Instagram usage intensity and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) as predictors of emotion regulation among junior high school students in Palembang City. This study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto correlational design. The participants were 102 junior high school students selected using purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria, including students aged 12–15 years who had used Instagram for at least six months and actively accessed Instagram at least three times a week. Data were collected using scales of Instagram usage intensity, Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), and emotion regulation. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed that Instagram usage intensity and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) simultaneously had a significant role in predicting emotion regulation (F = 32.726, p < 0.05) with a contribution of 39.8% (R² = 0.398). Partially, Instagram usage intensity and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) significantly predicted emotion regulation. These findings indicate that adolescents’ emotion regulation is related to both their involvement in Instagram use and their psychological experiences in digital social interactions.

Abstract

Qurban is an act of worship that embodies not only spiritual devotion but also significant social values through the distribution of sacrificial meat and community participation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of qurban worship in the Loa Bakung community, focusing on the conformity of slaughtering practices with Islamic law, the effectiveness of meat distribution, and the internalization of moral and social values among participants. This research employed a qualitative approach through field research and library research. Primary data were obtained through participatory observation and direct involvement in qurban committee activities, while secondary data were collected from the Qur'an, Hadith, classical and contemporary Islamic literature, and relevant scientific publications. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative analysis. The implementation of qurban involved a well-organized committee structure consisting of slaughtering, skinning, meat cutting, weighing, packaging, and distribution divisions. A total of nine cattle and fifteen goats were sacrificed. Meat distribution was conducted using a color-coded coupon system to ensure fairness and equitable distribution. Hygienic handling procedures were also implemented to minimize contamination. The activity strengthened cooperation, social solidarity, responsibility, and Islamic moral values among students, pesantren students, and local residents. Proper management, adherence to Islamic principles, and community collaboration contributed significantly to the successful implementation of qurban while strengthening Islamic social values and community welfare.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the psychological dynamics underlying low learning motivation in a 16-year-old female student, identified by the initials VPM, who was enrolled in Grade 10 Culinary 2 at SMK Z Surabaya, and to evaluate the outcome of an individual counseling intervention. This study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observation, psychological assessment, a learning motivation scale, and academic documentation. The psychological assessment included the Intelligence Structure Test (IST), Sixteen Personality Factors (16PF), Family Sentence Completion Test (FSCT), Draw-A-Person (DAP), Baum Test, and House-Tree-Person (HTP). The findings indicated that VPM’s low learning motivation was characterized by avoidance of difficult subjects, inconsistent learning effort, low persistence, distractibility, limited classroom participation, and unstructured independent study habits. Although her learning motivation scale score was classified as moderate, behavioral observations indicated that motivation was not consistently translated into academic engagement. VPM’s intellectual functioning was within the normal range, with relatively stronger memory and visuospatial abilities but comparatively lower verbal and numerical abilities. The case formulation indicated that low learning motivation resulted from the interaction of cognitive vulnerabilities, self-doubt, anxiety, unpleasant learning experiences, avoidance behaviors, and environmental factors. Individual counseling using a Cognitive Behavioral Counseling (CBC) approach and cognitive restructuring was implemented in five sessions. The intervention resulted in improvements across all assessed dimensions of learning motivation, with task choice increasing from 6 to 8, effort from 13 to 18, and persistence from 17 to 22. Behavioral improvements were also observed in study regularity, task completion, willingness to face difficult subjects, and development of a structured study plan. These findings suggest that cognitive restructuring-based individual counseling may be a useful approach for strengthening learning motivation and promoting more adaptive academic behaviors among vocational students.

Abstract

The phenomenon of abusive language (verbal violence) among adolescents today has reached an alarming level, both in cyberspace and in daily social interactions. The family, which should serve as the primary socialization environment, often unconsciously reproduces gender-biased and patriarchal hierarchical speech patterns that foster abusive communicative acts. This study aims to reconstruct the concept of qaulan ma’rufa in the Qur'an through a gender tafsir (exegesis) approach and formulate its habituation mechanism in the domestic realm as a preventive instrument against abusive language in adolescents. By integrating gender critical hermeneutics and Pierre Bourdieu's habitus theory, this study finds that qaulan ma’rufa is not merely interpreted as 'good words,' but as communication that is egalitarian, gender-just, and free from subordination and power-relation intimidation. The internalization of a gender-perspective qaulan ma’rufa within the family forms a supportive fortress (habitus) that decompresses adolescents' tendencies to imitate and legitimize abusive language in the public sphere.
