Abstract

Non-Suicidal Self Injury (NSSI) is self-harming behavior carried out without suicidal thoughts. NSSI behavior can be motivated by expressing unbearable and difficult emotions. One of these emotions is the emotion of anger, which is often associated with aggressive behavior, both towards other people and towards oneself. Spielberger (1988) explained anger from various sides, such as from perspective, which looks at the situation (state), personality traits (trait), expression, and control. This study aims to determine the description of the state, traits, expression, and control of anger in emerging adulthood individuals who commit non-suicidal self-injury. To be specific, this study uses descriptive quantitative methods. In collecting data, this study used the STAXI-2 and NSSI-AT measuring instruments. The data analysis technique used is the descriptive analysis method. The sample criteria for this study were 74 participants aged 18-25 years who carried out NSSI in Indonesia. The study results showed that the NSSI behavior did not describe the full intensity of the anger experienced. Individuals who engage in NSSI have feelings of anger stronger than those expressed physically. Apart from that, individuals who engage in NSSI also tend to suppress their anger and try to calm themselves in a situation that provokes their anger. Based on the result, we recommend that further research includes other variables related to feelings of anger and NSSI.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to mass layoffs in companies worldwide, including Indonesia, which has been further exacerbated by the global recession in 2023. These mass layoffs not only impact the mental well-being of affected employees but also the psychological state of those still employed in related companies. Previous studies have shown that the uncertain employment situation creates feelings of worry, demotivation, difficulty sleeping, and unexplained anger. This study focuses on the importance of self-compassion, which encourages individuals to accept their imperfections and negative emotions without drowning in them. The research using Spearman’s correlation, conducted in Jakarta with a sample size of 101 active employees whose companies have recently carried out mass layoffs, found a significant positive relationship between self-compassion and psychological well-being of employees in companies that have terminated employment (r = 0.821, p < 0.05). The study suggests that self-compassion can be an adaptive strategy to promote well-being and positive psychological functioning during difficult times. Further research could explore different data collection techniques and study subjects.

Abstract

Data dianalisis dengan 2-way analysis of variance.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to understand how identity is constructed in individuals who have more than one Instagram account. The study employs a qualitative approach, and data collection is carried out by involving 10 informants through online semi-structured interviews. The collected data is analyzed using narrative analysis methods. Based on the analysis results, five themes are identified that demonstrate the identity construction of individuals on their Instagram accounts: 1) Feelings of insecurity; 2) Anticipatory anxiety; 3) Self-image as public identity; 4) Limitations of private identity; and 5) Existential anxiety in community space. Informants position themselves as individuals who feel insecure and strive to overcome anticipatory anxiety. These two themes are further related to the informants' public identity that portrays their self-image and their attempts to limit their private identity. The formation of public and private identities by informants also serves as an effort to address informants' existential anxiety within the community space.

Abstract

Work is essential for fulfilling life's needs, including for physically disabled individuals. These individuals have significant opportunities in the workforce, supported by government initiatives aimed at enabling their employment. Despite this support, their participation remains low due to internal and external factors. Internal factors include a low self-concept, while external factors involve a work environment that is not accommodating to people with disabilities. This research aims to provide an overview of self-concept and the factors influencing the self-concept of physically disabled individuals working in government companies. A qualitative approach with narrative methods was used, involving semi-structured interviews conducted twice. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data. The results indicated that all three participants had a positive self-concept. They accepted their life conditions and maintained realistic expectations based on their abilities. Influential factors shaping their self-concept included support from parents and friends. Additionally, age differences were found to be a differentiating factor.

Abstract

College students need effective coping strategies to optimize their performance and achieve their goals. One promising approach is self-compassion, which can help students navigate the challenges of college life. Self-compassion can be influenced by daily experiences, including humour style. Humour is often seen merely as a source of entertainment, but it can significantly impact self-compassion.This study examines the relationship between different humour styles and self-compassion. A total of 245 college students from various universities across Indonesia participated, selected through a convenience sampling method. The Humour Style Questionnaire and the Skala Welas Diri were used to measure humour styles and self-compassion, respectively. To analyze how different humour styles predict self-compassion, multiple regression analysis with the enter procedure was employed. The results showed that among the four humour styles (self-enhancing, affiliative, aggressive, and self-defeating), only self-enhancing, aggressive, and self-defeating humour significantly predicted self-compassion. Self-enhancing humour had the strongest predictive power, followed by aggressive humour and then self-defeating humour.

Abstract

There are many internet-based activities, one of which is internet gaming, which, at a certain level of frequency, can lead individuals to internet addiction. This research, conducted with meticulous attention to detail, aims to determine the relationship between parental-peer attachment and self-esteem as two factors that are closely related to internet addiction behavior. The study was meticulously conducted on 38 young adult male and female internet gaming players using the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment-Revised (IPPA-R) and the Self-Esteem Scale (SES). Data were rigorously analyzed using one-tailed Spearman statistical analysis. The results show a positive relationship between Parental-Peer Attachment and Self-Esteem in internet gaming players. The alienation dimension in Mother, Father, and Peer Attachment has the most significant relationship. Self-competence and Self-liking dimensions have a negative relationship, so that these two dimensions will decrease or increase if one dimension experiences a decrease or increase. Further studies on the other psychological factors that underly internet gaming behavior potentially support the prevention of addiction.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the contributions of job demands and job resources to the psychological well-being of creative agency workers. Creative agencies often require longer working hours and higher workloads to meet customer demands. However, the resources provided by companies to support workers sometimes do not adequately compensate for these demands, which can negatively impact workers' psychological well-being. Despite this, creative agencies depend heavily on their workers to achieve company targets, and the psychological well-being of these workers plays a crucial role in their ability to develop their potential and function optimally. It is predicted that adequate job resources to meet job demands will enhance the psychological functioning of workers. This research utilized quantitative methods and involved 106 creative agency workers in Jakarta, selected through convenience sampling. The instruments used for measurement were the Questionnaire sur les Ressources et Contraintes Professionnelles and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that job demands and job resources significantly contribute to the psychological well-being of creative agency workers. Specifically, job demands have a negative impact on psychological well-being, whereas job resources have a positive impact. Therefore, even though the work is demanding, sufficient resources can help maintain the psychological well-being of workers.

Abstract

The penetration of Hallyu culture in Indonesia is becoming increasingly widespread, as indicated by the growing popularity of K-pop, K-drama, K-movie, and K-variety shows. Hallyu culture can shift the perception of the ideal man in Indonesian society, especially among teenage girls. This study aims to compare the social representation of the ideal man between teenage girls who are fans of Hallyu and those who are not. Data collection was conducted in two stages: a questionnaire using the word association method to identify social representation attributes, and a questionnaire using the double denial technique, which was tested using chi-square goodness of fit ⅔ expected frequency to determine central core and peripheral attributes. The first stage involved 220 participants with an average age of 16 years (SD = 1.73), while the second stage involved 235 participants with an average age of 17 years (SD = 2.57).Overall, the results showed no difference in the social representation of the ideal man between the two groups, with nine central core attributes (i.e., well-behaved, intelligent and talented in various fields, affectionate to their partner, humorous, religious, committed to the relationship, caring for family, understanding, and able to control emotions) and two peripheral attributes (i.e., attractive appearance and financially stable).
