Abstract

The continuous workload and emotional burden experienced by oncology nurses at Hospital X can lead to compassion fatigue as a side effect of their work. The impacts include demotivation, low quality of care, and even risks to patient safety. This study aimed to examine the resilience process from compassion fatigue experienced by oncology nurses using qualitative methods. The researcher conducted semi-structured interviews with three nurses with different lengths of experience as oncology nurses. The results of this study showed that all three participants had achieved resilient reintegration with different ways to process it. The emotional burden due to the holistic issues of patients and their families and the complexity of care were the primary factors contributing to compassion fatigue. The research findings can be used to design preventive and remedial efforts to improve nurses' emotional and psychosocial well-being.

Abstract

Completing a thesis is a key requirement for undergraduate students, but the process often presents various challenges. In response, some students engage in maladaptive behaviors such as procrastination. While traditionally viewed as detrimental, recent studies have identified a positive form of procrastination called active procrastination. This involves intentionally delaying tasks, feeling motivated under time pressure, meeting deadlines, and achieving satisfactory results. Active procrastination can serve as a productive strategy with potential benefits for undergraduates. This study explored the prevalence and levels of active procrastination among thesis-writing undergraduates. Data were collected from 298 students across universities in Indonesia using convenience sampling. The Active Procrastination Scale-Bahasa Indonesia by Purwanto and Natalya (2019) was employed to measure active procrastination. Findings revealed that thesis students generally exhibit low levels of active procrastination. Additionally, no significant gender differences were observed. The study also found significant correlations among the dimensions of active procrastination. These results suggest that promoting active procrastination may help students adopt a more adaptive approach to managing thesis-related challenges.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial phase for identity formation, requiring proper guidance to avoid confusion or inappropriate development. The Youth Fellowship at Church "F" seeks to assess the identity status of adolescents they mentor to create tailored programs. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach with 40 participants aged 13-16 from the fellowship. Data were collected using The Revised Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status, validated for reliability and contextual relevance. The study revealed that none of the adolescents had achieved identity achievement status. Most were in the diffusion status for both ideological (career, religion, politics, and philosophy) and interpersonal (friendships, partnerships, gender roles, and recreation) aspects. Adolescents in this status showed limited desire to explore or commit to these areas. Additionally, some adolescents were in foreclosure status, characterized by identity development shaped by external influences like parents or schools without personal exploration. The findings highlight the importance of mentors addressing the needs of adolescents at all identity statuses. Special attention is recommended for those in foreclosure status, as their identity development may lack the autonomy required for healthy growth. Tailored mentoring programs should encourage exploration and self-discovery to support identity development effectively. These results provide valuable insights for designing programs that cater to the unique developmental needs of adolescents in the Youth Fellowship at Church "F."

Abstract

Masculinity is often associated with social expectations requiring men to be resilient, strong, and determined. However, these expectations can create social pressures leading to toxic masculinity, which increases the risk of mental health issues such as a tendency toward Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is characterized by an exaggerated perception of minor or non-existent flaws in one’s appearance. This study aims to explore toxic masculinity and the tendency toward BDD in male adolescents. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using structured interviews conducted on high school boys aged 17–18. Three participants were selected based on CMNI-46 screening scores above 119 to ensure they represent the targeted masculinity characteristics. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, maintaining integrity through triangulation. The findings reveal toxic masculinity and BDD tendencies in male adolescents, shaped by traditional masculinity expectations emphasizing dominance, emotional suppression, and avoidance of vulnerability. Pressure to meet standards, such as achieving an ideal physical image, triggers compulsive behaviors, anxiety, and social isolation, negatively impacting mental health. Factors such as family, culture, social media, religion, economy, and birth order influence masculinity perceptions. The study underscores the need for education and further research to create safe spaces for boys to express emotions without stigma and provide adequate psychological support.

Abstract

This quantitative study aims to examine the relationship between grit and hope among students at State Vocational School 6 Surakarta. Sampling was conducted using a purposive sampling method, involving 232 eleventh-grade students as participants. The dependent variable, hope, was measured using an adaptation of the Adult Hope Scale, while the independent variable, grit, was measured using the Short Grit Scale (Grit-S). Hypothesis testing was performed using the Pearson product-moment correlation method. The results showed a significant correlation, indicating a positive relationship between grit and hope. This suggests that higher levels of grit are associated with higher levels of hope among students, and vice versa. However, the strength of this relationship is classified as moderate. Additional analysis revealed a significant difference in the average hope scores between students in the accounting major and those in the Film Production major. While this study contributes to the growing body of literature on hope and grit among vocational high school students, several research limitations need to be taken into consideration.

Abstract

Body image is a critical aspect of adolescent development because the physical changes often trigger feelings of dissatisfaction, which increase the risk of developing a negative body image. A negative body image can lead to various adverse effects, such as feelings of inferiority, difficulty in self-acceptance, and even mental health problems. These can be mitigated by fostering a more positive body image through the practice of gratitude. High levels of gratitude can help adolescents accept their bodies better by focusing on positive aspects. Therefore, this study aims to examine the predictive role of gratitude on body image among adolescents. This quantitative study involved 455 adolescent participants aged 13-18 years residing in Indonesia. Data were collected using a non-probability sampling technique, specifically convenience sampling. The instruments used were the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-AS) and the Skala Bersyukur Indonesia (SBI). This study employed a correlational design with simple linear regression statistical techniques for data analysis. The research results indicate that gratitude can significantly predict body image in adolescents. Additional findings reveal a negative relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and body image. To gain a deeper understanding of these two variables, future researchers may consider external factors that can influence body image, such as social media, family, or peers.

Abstract

Technological advancements in Society 5.0 have integrated humans with technology, encouraging millennials to prioritize their careers, maintain work-life balance, and pursue growth. A study involving 198 millennial employees (aged 24–43, each with at least two years of full-time work experience) investigated the impact of organizational commitment and perceived organizational support on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). The results showed that while affective commitment and perceived organizational support significantly influenced OCB, continuance and normative commitments did not. These findings suggest practical implications for organizations seeking to enhance OCB among millennial employees. Specifically, developing targeted programs to strengthen affective commitment and enhance perceived organizational support – by making it more tangible and impactful for employees – can serve an effective strategy for fostering positive organizational behavior.

Abstract

Bullying is a common phenomenon among adolescents, particularly in school settings. It involves acts of violence against individuals perceived as weaker within the school environment. Victims of school bullying  may experience lasting negative effects that persist into late adolescence. Resilience, the ability to navigate and recover from difficult experiences, plays a crucial role in helping individuals cope with adversity. Research has identified differences in resilience between males and females, but there is limited exploration of resilience specifically in late adolescent males who have experienced bullying in schools. This study aims to examine resilience among late adolescent males who have faced bullying in schools. Using a qualitative approach with a thematic reflexive analysis, data was collected through semi-structured interviews with three late adolescent male participants, and then analyzed thematically. The findings indicate that all three participants demonstrate resilience in their current lives, reflected in key aspects such as emotional regulation (managing emotions effectively), impulse control (restraining harmful impulses), optimism (maintaining positive expectations for the future), causal analysis (recognizing bullying  as a result of power imbalance), empathy (understanding the emotions of others), self-efficacy (confidence in their own abilities), and reaching out (taking initiative to achieve results). Additionally, social support played a significant role in fostering resilience among the participants.

Abstract

Indonesian students studying abroad often face various challenges during their adaptation process, which can lead to acculturative stress. Psychological hardiness is a key factor that may help reduce this stress. It is a personality trait that enables individuals to cope with stress by viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and maintaining commitment and control in difficult situations. This study aimed to examine the relationship between psychological hardiness and acculturative stress among Indonesian students abroad. A quantitative method with correlational analysis was used, involving 140 Indonesian students who had been studying abroad for no more than two years as of October 2024. Data were collected using the Hardiness Scale and the Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students (ASSIS). The results revealed a negative correlation (-.313) between psychological hardiness and acculturative stress. Specifically, the control (-.358) and challenge (-.321) dimensions of psychological hardiness were also negatively correlated with acculturative stress. These findings suggest that students with higher psychological hardiness perceive themselves as capable of managing their environment and see change as a positive experience, which reduces stress. Future research is recommended to further explore the role of psychological hardiness in reducing acculturative stress among international students.

Abstract

Crypto currency is a digital-based asset that functions as an investment instrument, a means of depositing money, and a medium for transfers through virtual networks. The rapid growth in the value of crypto currencies has increased interest among potential investors and attracted media attention to crypto currency investments. However, there is limited information whether the public is fully aware of the risks or dangers associated with investing in crypto currencies. This study aims to identify predictors of individuals’ intentions to invest in crypto currencies. The research utilized a quantitative approach with a correlational design and was analysed using multiple regression techniques. The characteristics of the participants were as follows: residents of the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek), aged 18 to 21 years, having heard of crypto currency investment methods, never having invested in crypto currencies, and not currently bearing the daily expenses of others. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling technique, resulting in a total of 159 respondents. The findings show that perception of risk and attitude do not significantly predict investment intentions. However, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control significantly predict individuals’ intentions to invest in crypto currencies. Among these, perceived behavioural control was found to be the strongest predictor of individuals’ intentions to invest in crypto currencies.
