Abstract

This study explores the representation of women in children's storybooks through in-depth content analysis. The study found that female protagonists are often portrayed in stereotypical traditional roles, such as loving mothers or supportive friends, while male protagonists tend to be portrayed as strong and courageous leaders. Female supporting characters also tend to have passive and subordinate roles, often only as a complement to the male main character. The narratives in many children's storybooks reinforce gender stereotypes, despite increased efforts to raise themes of equality and women's empowerment. Illustrations in storybooks also play an important role in reinforcing or challenging gender perceptions, with women often depicted in domestic activities and men in more active activities. The results of this study emphasize the importance of creating a more inclusive and diverse children's literacy to form a fairer and more balanced gender perception among children.

Abstract

Violence against women is a serious issue that is often reported by the television media, which has an important role in shaping public opinion. This study aims to analyze the representation of violence against women in television news and its impact on public perception. Through the approach of literature study and critical discourse analysis, this study examines the use of language, narrative, and visuals in news from various television stations in Indonesia. The results of the study show that news tends to use sensational language and explicit visuals, which can reinforce negative stereotypes and people's desensitization towards violence. Additionally, narratives that focus on victims' suffering often ignore the underlying social and structural context of violence. These findings indicate the need for more ethical and educational reporting practices to increase public awareness and understanding of violence against women, as well as encourage collective action to address this problem. The study also provides recommendations for the media, government, and NGOs to work together to create a safer and more supportive social environment for women.

Abstract

This study aims to examine religious values and gender views among Muslim adolescents in three Madrasah Aliyah (MA) in Jambi. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, this study reveals how the understanding and application of religious values, as well as gender views, are shaped by the interaction between religious education in schools and family influence. The results show that although the understanding of religious values is generally strong, there are variations in their application that are influenced by academic and social pressures. Gender views among teenagers also show diversity, with some students holding conservative views while others are more progressive. These findings underscore the importance of an inclusive and dialogical approach to education to support the integration of religious values and gender equality. The implication of this research is the need for cooperation between schools, families, and communities to build a young generation that is insightful and committed to the values of justice and equality

Abstract

Gender identity is an important aspect of children's self-development that is influenced by various factors, including the social environment and digital technology. This study aims to explore the influence of digital media on the formation of gender identity in children in the digital era through a literature study method. The study analyzes a variety of relevant literature sources, including books, scientific journals, and academic articles, to identify key themes and gaps in the existing literature. The focus of the research includes the influence of social media, digital games, educational content, and the dynamics of online interaction on children's perception and expression of gender identity. The results show that digital media has a complex role in the formation of gender identity, both positively and negatively, depending on how the media is used and accompanied. The implications of these findings underscore the need for a more inclusive and critical approach to designing and supervising digital content consumed by children. The study also identified several limitations, including limitations in the scope of literature that may not fully represent all aspects of children's experiences with digital media. Recommendations for further research are to conduct more in-depth empirical studies and develop intervention strategies that engage parents, educators, and policymakers to create a more supportive and inclusive digital environment for children's gender identity development.

Abstract

This study explores the role of patriarchy in marriage traditions in West Sumatra and how social transformation affects these dynamics. Although the Minangkabau people are known for their matrilineal system, patriarchal values are still dominant in daily life, especially in marriage. Through a qualitative approach, this study uses in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation to collect data from various related parties, including married couples, traditional leaders, and local cultural experts. The findings suggest that patriarchy plays an important role in determining gender roles in wedding processions, with men often placed as leaders and decision-makers. However, there are signs of change driven by education and urbanization, which is pushing young couples to demand gender equality in marriage. This study also found resistance from the older generation and rural communities who still hold fast to patriarchal values. Thus, this study fills the gap in the literature by providing insight into the experience of couples in navigating patriarchal norms and the implications of social change on marriage traditions in West Sumatra

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of women in Indonesian films through a literature study method, by combining primary and secondary data. Analysis was carried out on the characterization, dialogue, and visual narrative in various films to identify patterns of gender representation. The findings of the study show that despite some efforts to feature women in stronger and multidimensional roles, traditional gender stereotypes are still dominant. The implications of these findings emphasize the importance of awareness and change in the film industry to create more balanced and realistic representations, which can influence people's views of gender roles. The study also identified limitations in the number of samples and genres of films analyzed, and suggested that future research expand the scope and consider other factors such as the influence of social media and technological changes in film production and consumption.
