Abstract

This article is intended to understand the phenomena of women writers in Indonesian literature within the period of year 2000. Their works of literature emerge among the works of art dominated by male writers. Seeing through thefeminism point of view, those women writers strive their position by attempting to deconstruct the patriarch system. By producing their works, they seek their identity through the literary writing and literary critics. Their existence in Indonesian literaryworks in 2000s becomes the pioneer of women’s rebelious action against the patriarch system in Indonesian literary history. Through their works which have got some awards from Dewan Kesenian Jakarta or Khatulistiwa Awards, theircapability in writing is recognized. However, their skill in producing works of art does not necessarily get positive respond from both the society and the literary critics. There are many prickly critics which try to marginalize their works.

Abstract

THE DYNAMICS OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ISOLATION AND MEMORY TRANSMISSION IN “TEMPÊTE” NOVELLA BY J. M. G. LE CLÉZIO: A POST-MEMORY REVIEWAbstract: The concept of postmemory, introduced by Hirsch (2012), focuses on the processes through which memories—particularly traumatic memories— of a historical tragedy, “Holocaus”, which is transmitted across generations. Drawing on the elements supporting inter-individual memory transmission, this paper examines the dynamics of human memory within Novel Prize-winning French-Mauritian author J. M. G. Le Clézio's novella entitled “Tempête”. Using a qualitative approach, this study aims to examine the individual forms of memory transmission that are rooted in conditions of isolation, and developed through one trauma site as the memory connector. The presence of semiotics within the story also builds the narration of traumatic memories. It indicates that memory transmission is not necessarily vertical, which is passed from the previous to the next generations. Memory transmission is also not always linear, as there are factors and methods affecting the interpretation of received memory aside from verbally. Khususnya memori traumatis dari peristiwa historis “Holokaus” yang diwarisi generasi penerus, disebut juga antargenerasi. Berangkat dari elemen-elemen pendukung pewarisan memori melalui satu individu pada individu lainnya, tulisan ini menelaah kedinamisan konsep memori manusia di dalam novella yang berjudul “Tempête” karya peraih hadiah Nobel franco-mauritian, J. M. G. Le Clézio. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bentuk-bentuk transmisi memori individual yang berkembang dari kondisi keterasingan di dalam satu lokasi sebagai penghubung memori. Unsur simbolisme dan semiotik turut membingkai narasi sebagai indikasi memori traumatis di dalam karya. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa transmisi memori tidak selalu bersifat vertikal, yaitu yang diturunkan dari generasi sebelum terhadap generasi seterusnya. Transmisi memori juga tidak selalu bersifat linear, karena adanya faktor dan cara yang memengaruhi interpretasi memori selain daripada lisan. Abstract

Due to the unavailability  materials  for Reading  II   subject,  this study attempts to develop a reading box material which consists of 80 units of 400-500 words. Each unit contains introduction,  questions, readings, answer keys, reflection and also monitoring books. This reading box enables the students to practice reading extensively and independently. This material was developed through several stages, they were: planning, exploration, the development  of the products, validation and laminating. In validation, the revision was done on the questions, readings, answer keys, reflections, illustration, lay out, the title and on the monitoring book. However, the results of the questionnaire  on validation process show that the material was qualified in terms the content, the appropriateness of the reading type and its topic with the students’ interest and  intellegence, the length of the readings, the variety of the text types, the difficulty level, illustration, lay out, the font and the letter size

Abstract

Cyberbullying speech patterns among Indonesian studentsLanguage evidence is consulted in dealing with cyberbullying cases. Linguistic analysis is used to reveal the nature of speech and cyberbullying expressions that have legal implications. This study aimed to find the speech patterns used by students in cyberbullying, identify the features of insults in cyberbullying speech, and identify the legal implications of cyberbullying speech on social media. 504 speech data were collected from Facebook and Twitter from January to April 2020.  They were all written in social media accounts of Indonesian high school students. The cyberbullying speech data was analyzed qualitatively using forensic linguistics analysis, i.e., analyzing the linguistic aspects of social media speech data with linguistic theory, particularly speech act theory. Results of the linguistic analysis were then linked to the legal implication of the social media speech. The analysis shows that four general patterns of cyberbullying speech are found, Head Act, Head Act - Supportive Move, Supportive Move - Head Act, and Supportive Move - Head Act - Supportive Move. In addition, three features of insults in cyberbullying are found: the use of pejorative words or phrases, the use of words or phrases with negative connotations, and the use of 'reply' or 'mention' features. The patterns of cyberbullying speech found in this study indicate that the insulting effects of different word or phrase formulation vary. However, they all may have legal implications, especially the violations of Law of Information and Electronic Transaction (UU ITE), particularly Article 27 Paragraph (3) regarding insults and defamation.Keywords: cyberbullying, social media, speech act, insults, forensic linguistics Pola tuturan perundungan siber (cyberbullying) di kalangan pelajar IndonesiaAlat bukti kebahasaan sangat diperlukan dalam penangangan kasus perundungan siber. Pembuktian tuturan perundungan siber dilakukan melalui hasil analisis linguistik yang mampu menunjukkan hakikat pertuturan dan ekspresi perundungan yang berimplikasi hukum. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menemukan pola tuturan yang digunakan oleh pelajar dalam melakukan perundungan siber, mengidentifikasi fitur ekpresi penghinaan yang terkandung dalam tuturan perundungan siber, dan mengidentifikasi implikasi hukum tuturan pada perundungan siber di media sosial.  504 data tuturan yang berasal Instagram dan Twitter diambil pada rentang waktu Januari hingga April 2020. Seluruh data tuturan tersebut ditulis oleh akun pelajar sekolah menengah di Indonesia. Analisis data kualitatif dilakukan untuk mengkonfirmasi data tuturan perundungan siber dengan telaah linguistik forensik, yakni menganalisis aspek kebahasaan data tuturan media sosial dengan teori linguistik, khususnya teori tindak tutur. Hasil analisis linguistik kemudian dihubungkan dengan aspek implikasi hukum dari tuturan media sosial tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, ditemukan empat pola umum tuturan perundungan siber, yaitu head act, head act - supportive move, supportive move - head act, dan supportive move - head act - supportive move. Selain itu ditemukan pula tiga fitur ekspresi penghinaan dalam tuturan perundungan siber, yaitu penggunaan kata atau frasa peyoratif, penggunaan kata atau frasa berkonotasi negatif, dan penggunaan fitur membalas (reply/mention). Pola tuturan perundungan siber yang telah ditemukan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan perbedaan efek penghinaan yang ditimbulkan dari formulasi kata atau frasa, namun semua tuturan tersebut memiliki potensi implikasi hukum, khususnya pelanggaran UU ITE, utamanya pasal 27 ayat (3) tentang penghinaan dan pencemaran nama baik.Kata kunci: perundungan siber, media sosial, tindak tutur, penghinaan, linguistik forensik

Abstract

This qualitataive study aims to describe and explain a) the structure of ke- long, b) the function of kelong, and c) the value of kelong. The research was carried out using the following procedure: transcribing kelong texts, interpreting the kelong texts, and referencing the results of text analysis to articles related to the culture and literature of Makassar. Some in-depth interviews with key people about the culture were also conducted. It was found that kelong consists of micro, macro, and super structures. In the case of functions, it was found that the functions consist of infor- mational, emotive, directive, poetic, and esthetic functions. Abstract

This article reports on research project analyzing the specific terms of cultural expressions that exist in Madura Island, the strategies in translating Madurese cultural expressions into English, andhow the strategies of transferring messages take place. The sources of data utilized in this study were the translators in the local government, private sectors, educational institutions, and both official and unofficial documents throughout the region containing Madurese cultural expressions. The data were collected using document analysis, questionnaire distribution, and in-depth interviews. The analysis was carried out in view of interactive model. The findings show that categories of specific terms found in the Madurese cultural expressions include: culture of materials (33.06%), ecological terms (19.35%), and socio-culture (47.58%). In addition, the strategies of translation applied to solve the challenge of translation include: adaptation (25.81%), calque (3.22%), modulation (4.84%), borrowing (4.03%), descriptive equivalence (51.61%), and a superordinate-subordinate scope (10.48%). Abstract

This study aims at developing animated movie series for children as learning media to boost Indonesian young learners’ critical thinking. The product specification is as follows: (1) animated movie series help children practice their critical thinking using the designed patterns; (2) the content of the movie contains moral values for character building in Indonesian multicultural society; (3) the language exposure in the animated series is comprehensible for children, and (4) the development of the story is through naturalistic style. The design of this study is adapted from R2D2 (Recursive, Reflective, Design and Development) by Willis (1995). The result of this study is six animated movies which has been tried out for the designed participants

Abstract

Abstract: Ceramic craft in Sentra Keramik Dinoyo of Malang has been produced in more or less four generations long. In the beginning, local crafters made potteries in traditional kitchenware. The increasing demand of consumer made room for decorative ceramic. Unfortunately, their product design development didn’t reflect local culture nuance. It because crafters weren’t able to develop the design. Through this activity, researcher tried to solve design problem, extracted from local culture as ceramic creation idea. So that local culture could appear as local ceramic characters. Ceramic product design development is done by formulating design concept, manifesting concept into product design image. Design image result then tested to design expert. The product design image then improved. This design improvement then manifested into ceramic product prototype. This development produced a unique design, one of them is ceramic with ‘Kendi Garuda Kamandalu’ (teapot) from Kidal Temple’s reliefs theme.  permalink/DOI: dx.doi.org/10.17977/um015v46i12018p111

Abstract

This article discusses the 'Self-portrait' in modern Korean poetry Jahwasang (hangul: 자화상) by Yoon Dongju using the Riffaterre’s semiotic theory. Semiotic theory assumes that literature is a semiotic fact of humanity. Semiotic means that literature is a collection of meaningful sign systems. The purpose of this study is to find the meaning of 'self portrait' written on Jahwasang. The research method of this study is a qualitative method. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that poem "self portrait" is about Yoon Dongju’s reflection and introspection of the past.Keywords: Jahwasang; Riffaterre; Semiotics; Yoon Dongju

Abstract

The Internet is believed to have changed reading habits: deep reading has shifted due to the easy access on the Net. This research is intended to unravel the reading behavior of Junior High School students in the Municipality of Malang. The results indicate that reading is not listed as a favorite past-time: they spend a little time  reading.  The  trend  is  that  they tend  to  spend  their  time  for  accessing  the Internet in a way different from that of the previous time. The analysis shows that there is a positive correlation between reading habit and reading variables related to the Internet.
