Abstract

This study aims to reveal a relationship between Gayo and Malay which can be seen from the similarity of vocabulary. The method used is descriptive qualitative and quantitative. The data is in the form of vocabulary from Malay and Gayo language which has 6% similarity. This data can be proven not to have a close relationship because the core vocabulary is less than 36% or part of the sub grouping. This research also uses qualitative and quantitative methods. Mahsun (2005) states that qualitative is a way of grouping derived languages into a group that is closer to their relationship, and then using lexicostatistical techniques to analyze the data that has been collected..

In addition to the Batak language family, Nias language is also one of the languages whose users are quite a lot in North Sumatra, eventhough it is not the area of origin. Kinship Language is a comparative historical linguistic study. By using the quantitative method the kinship relations of the three languages are calculated lexicostatistically. The indicator used to determine related words is a basic vocabulary called the Swadesh basic vocabulary, which consists of two hundred vocabularies. The first result was obtained, namely the Batak Karo language (BBK) and the Batak Toba language (BBT) have a kinship relationship, where from 200 words there are 121 words that have a kinship relationship, namely 37 identical related words and 84 shifting related words with the same meaning. The level of kinship between the Batak Toba language and the Batak Karo language is fairly high because the percentage is 60.5%. The year of separation occurred in 703 AD. Abstract

The teacher is a profession that has an important role in realizing quality education, especially in the learning process in formal schools. For this reason, there needs to be a selection carried out in selecting prospective teachers and also a coaching process so that the teaching profession contributes to success in the world of education. This study provides an overview of the differences of teacher recruitment and development in Indonesia and England. The method used in this study is a literature study obtained from various writings in journals and books. The results obtained in this study indicate several comparison: 1) there are two types of teacher recrutment in Indonesia, namely selection of civil servant teachers in public schools conducted by the government under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and selection carried out by foundations to become honorary teachers or part-time teachers at private schools with the provisions and rules made by the school itself. While in England, the selection is carried out by each school that will accept prospective teachers with the terms and conditions that have been determined and apply to public schools and private schools; 2) Development of teachers in Indonesia is carried out after qualifying to become teachers (both civil servants and non-civil servants) which is provided by the government or private sector, while in England, coaching is carried out before and after becoming a teacher which is the responsibility of each school.

Abstract

Basic Engineering Mechanics is a science that plays an important role in civil engineering disciplines, especially in the construction sector. In studying Basic Engineering Mechanics, a Project Based Learning model is needed that can help students to more easily apply it. This study aims to determine the increasing in learning outcomes of Basic Engineering Mechanics of Civil Engineering Study Program students through the application of Project Based Learning model. The type of research to be conducted is experimental research using the pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were students of the Civil Engineering Study Program, Graha Nusantara University, Padangsidimpuan for first semester in Academic Year 2021-2022, totaling 60 people. Research instrument in the form of pre-test and post-test. The data analysis technique used in this research is comparative descriptive analysis, while the increasing in student learning outcomes through the application of Project Based Learning (PjBL) model is calculated using g-factor (normalized gain score). Based on the research results obtained, it can be concluded that the Project Based Learning model can increase the learning outcomes of Basic Engineering Mechanics for Civil Engineering Study Program students by 37.74%. While the conventional learning model can only increase the learning outcomes of Basic Engineering Mechanics for Civil Engineering Study Program students by 31.41%. So that the Project Based Learning model is more effectively used in Basic Engineering Mechanics courses than conventional learning model.

Abstract

The quality of learning is something that needs to be improved continuously. The implementation and achievement of an optimal learning process is use to gain the achievement of the expected learning objectives so learning activities can run effectively. With the application of the group investigation learning model, it is expected to be able to improve the quality of learning in the classroom since the group investigation method. By using this model, students are able to express themselves, improve critical thinking and other abilities that can support group learning or discussion. The main objective of this research was to improve the quality of learning through the application of the group investigation model to students. The research method used was classroom action research with two cycles of action. Furthermore, comparative data analysis was also used to compare learning in each cycle. The result of this research was an improvement in the learning process carried out by students from cycle I to cycle II, especially in the aspects of the research objectives. There was an increase in the first cycle, the average value was 68.22% and the average value in the second cycle was 83.33% with the correlation level from the first cycle and the second cycle was 0.619 or 61.9%. And the level of significance known from the data Sig.(2-tailed) was 0.000 <0.05 showed there was a difference from cycle I to cycle II in improving the quality of learning by applying the group investigation model.
