Abstract

The use of social media, particularly Instagram, has become an effective digital communication strategy for delivering public service information to the community. PT PLN (Persero) Unit Induk Distribusi Jawa Timur utilizes Instagram as a digital education platform to enhance public awareness and usage of the PLN Mobile application. This topic was selected due to existing challenges in communicating technical information to the public, including limited information reach and low understanding of application features. The methods applied in this study include direct observation of Instagram content, analysis of social media insights, and interviews with representatives from the Communication and General Affairs Division. The findings indicate that visual and interactive content, especially educational videos and storytelling formats, significantly increase audience engagement and content reach. Furthermore, Instagram functions effectively as a two-way communication medium that supports public understanding of digital services. These results highlight the importance of implementing adaptive, relevant, and easily understood digital educational content strategies to support the optimization of PLN Mobile utilization among the public.

Abstract

The phenomenon of Indonesian labor migration to Malaysia has been ongoing for a long time and has had significant social impacts, particularly for migrant children. They often experience limited access to education, identity issues, and weak moral and religious development. In this context, a more creative and contextual approach to Islamic propagation is needed. Mentoring through pencak silat is a relevant alternative because, in addition to being a martial art, pencak silat also contains values of discipline, respect, and spirituality that align with Islamic teachings, particularly the values of enjoining good and forbidding evil. This activity aims to determine the effectiveness of pencak silat mentoring as a means of propagation in instilling the values of enjoining good and forbidding evil in Indonesian migrant children in Kuala Lumpur. Furthermore, it examines how silat activities can strengthen their character, morals, and Islamic cultural identity in a multicultural environment. The method used is a service learning approach, a learning model that combines social service with a process of educational reflection. Data were obtained through observations during training activities, interviews with participants and mentors, and documentation of activities. Through this method, the process of internalizing values can be directly observed in children's behavior, attitudes, and interactions. The results show that pencak silat is effective as a means of transformative da'wah (Islamic outreach). The values of amar makruf (promoting good and doing good) are evident in increased positive behavior, cooperation, and honesty, while the values of nahi munkar (forbidding evil) are reflected in children's ability to control themselves and avoid negative behavior. This approach not only conveys da'wah but also fosters Islamic character that is applicable in everyday life.

Abstract

Waste management innovation is needed to address these waste issues. Halvorsen's theories on innovation focus on the procurement of technology and the development of technological innovations to improve personal and environmental hygiene using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method. The PAR method was chosen because it involves active community participation in designing, implementing, and evaluating technological solutions relevant to local needs. The research focuses on the application of smart devices, digital applications, and automated sensor systems to support clean and healthy living behaviors. The results show that community involvement in the innovation process strengthens a sense of ownership, increases the effectiveness of technology implementation, and encourages the sustainability of hygiene practices. Thus, participatory technological innovation not only improves the quality of personal hygiene but also creates a healthier, safer, and more sustainable environment.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve students' thrifty character and financial intelligence through financial literacy education at SDN 040459 Berastagi. The community service implementation method uses the Kemmis and McTaggart participatory action approach model which is implemented in two cycles, including planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The target of the activity is 55 students in grades VI A and VI B. Data collection techniques are carried out through financial literacy tests and observations of student behavior. The results show an increase in students' financial literacy from the pre-action stage by 55% to 67% in cycle I, and increased again to 75% in cycle II. Significant improvements are also seen in indicators of the ability to distinguish needs and wants (45% to 85%), saving habits (35% to 78%), planning the use of pocket money (35% to 70%), and recording simple expenses (25% to 65%). Thus, financial literacy education based on interactive learning and direct practice has proven effective in building thrifty character and financial intelligence in elementary school students.

Abstract

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are essential in modern industrial automation and Industry 4.0 environments. However, in many vocational institutions and industrial training centers, PLC access is limited primarily to maintenance departments due to high hardware costs, proprietary software licensing, and restricted system flexibility. This limitation reduces opportunities for non-maintenance staff, students, and interdisciplinary engineering practitioners to develop practical automation competencies. To address this gap, a community service program was conducted at Akademi Komunitas Toyota Indonesia, Karawang, utilizing OpenPLC—an open-source, IEC 61131-3–compliant PLC platform—as a low-cost and flexible training solution. The program involved structured workshops, hands-on practical sessions, and project-based learning activities using affordable hardware such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi. Participants were trained to design, simulate, and implement basic control systems, as well as integrate PLC logic with IoT and simple SCADA environments. The results demonstrate that OpenPLC effectively improves participants’ understanding of PLC programming concepts and enhances their practical skills in automation system development. The open-source nature of the platform reduces financial barriers while enabling broader experimentation beyond maintenance-oriented applications. This initiative shows that OpenPLC can serve as an accessible and sustainable training tool to expand industrial automation competencies across non-maintenance domains.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen institutional leadership through the establishment of the "Sedulur Laga" Cardamom Farmers Group in Kandangan Village, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency. Kandangan Village has great potential in developing cardamom as a high-value crop, but is not yet supported by strong farmer institutions and effective group leadership. This condition results in low coordination among farmers, weak access to technology, capital, and marketing of agricultural products. The community service approach is carried out in a participatory manner by placing farmers as the main subjects of the activity. The activity stages include situation analysis, facilitating the formation of farmer groups, strengthening institutional leadership and management, technical training on cardamom cultivation, and assistance with administration and group business planning. Strengthening the leadership aspect is focused on increasing the capacity of administrators in decision-making, group communication, work program preparation, and transparent and accountable organizational management. The results of the activity indicate the formation of the "Sedulur Laga" Cardamom Farmers Group with a clear organizational structure and more solid leadership. There has been an increase in members' understanding of the importance of collective work, institutional governance, and group-based farming business planning. In addition, farmers have begun implementing simple administrative practices and have developed a sustainable cardamom business development plan. Overall, this community service program contributes to strengthening farmer institutional leadership, a crucial foundation for increasing the independence, competitiveness, and welfare of cardamom farmers in Kandangan Village. The program's sustainability depends heavily on continued mentoring and synergy between farmer groups, the village government, and relevant stakeholders.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in the national economy; however, many MSME actors still face limitations in business management, particularly in financial record-keeping. This condition is also found among MSME actors in Sidodadi Village, Simokerto District, Surabaya City, who have not yet implemented structured financial records. This socialization activity aims to improve the financial literacy and skills of MSME actors in preparing simple financial records, especially income statements. The method used in this activity consisted of socialization and staged mentoring over four weeks through observation, material delivery, implementation, and evaluation, involving three MSME actors. The results show an increase in participants’ understanding and awareness of the importance of financial record-keeping, where two participants were able to independently prepare income statements, while one participant still required further assistance. This activity has proven to have a positive impact on improving the business management of MSME actors. In addition, this activity can encourage a shift in mindset among MSME actors to separate business finances from personal finances as a basis for more structured and sustainable business decision-making.

Abstract

The issue of household organic waste remains a challenge in environmental management at the community level. This community service activity aims to provide practical solutions through training in the production of eco-enzymes from fruit and vegetable scraps and their use as ingredients in environmentally friendly solid soap. This activity uses a participatory approach through the stages of problem identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Eco enzymes are made by fermenting fruit and vegetable waste with a composition of 60% water, 10% natural sugar, and 30% organic material for three months. The resulting fermented liquid is then used as a substitute for water in the saponification process using olive oil, coconut oil, and sodium hydroxide to form solid soap, which is then molded and cured. Evaluation is carried out descriptively through observation of the success of the fermentation process and the physical characteristics of the soap produced. The results of the activity showed that eco enzyme can be used in soap formulations and produces small round products (3 cm in diameter; ±25 grams) with a solid texture, neat surface, natural pastel pink color, and a light aroma characteristic of fermentation without synthetic fragrances. In the short term, this activity produced real product samples that can be used in daily needs. In the long term, this practice has the potential to reduce household organic waste and open up opportunities for developing home-based businesses based on environmentally friendly products. This activity also demonstrates the role of institutions in providing concrete solutions to domestic environmental problems
