Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen community capacity in developing green economy practices based on Qur’anic values and environmental fiqh as an ethical foundation for natural resource management. The program was initiated in response to the low level of ecological awareness and the suboptimal utilization of sustainable local economic potential, which have contributed to environmental degradation and limited economic self-reliance within the community. Implemented through a participatory mentoring approach, the program involved thematic training, focus group discussions, and field practices integrated with Islamic values. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed qualitatively to identify changes in community understanding, attitudes, and practices. The findings reveal positive changes in community awareness regarding the relationship between economic activities and environmental sustainability, as reflected in increased participation in environmental management activities, the emergence of community-based waste management initiatives, more environmentally friendly land-use practices, and the development of sustainability-oriented productive enterprises. Furthermore, the integration of Qur’anic values and environmental fiqh strengthened community awareness and motivation to preserve the environment as part of their social and religious responsibilities. These findings indicate that a religious values-based mentoring approach can serve as an effective strategy for promoting green economy development and sustainable community empowerment at the local level.

Abstract

Waste management continues to be a critical environmental issue, including in Bojonegoro Regency, particularly in the Banjarsari Landfill (TPA) area, Trucuk District. The increasing volume of organic and inorganic waste that has not been managed effectively highlights the urgent need for sustainable waste management strategies involving active community participation. This Community Service Program was conducted to enhance the knowledge, skills, and environmental awareness of Saka Kalpataru Scout members through activities focused on converting organic waste into compost and utilizing plastic waste to produce ecobricks. The program employed the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which emphasizes the utilization of existing community assets, resources, and capacities. The implementation consisted of two main stages: educational sessions on sustainable waste management and practical assistance in composting and ecobrick production, supported by training in basic business management and product marketing. The results of the program indicated a significant improvement in participants’ understanding, as reflected in the increase in the average knowledge score from 45.79 before the training to 76.84 after the training. In addition, 80% of participants reported being highly interested, while 20% stated that they were interested in applying composting and ecobrick production in their daily activities. The program also encouraged greater community participation and transformed participants’ perceptions of waste, which was no longer regarded merely as refuse but as a valuable resource with economic potential. Furthermore, the program contributed to reducing the volume of waste disposed of at the landfill while simultaneously promoting environmental awareness and supporting the development of sustainable green entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The low level of financial literacy among the families of boarding school students is one of the factors affecting household economic well-being, particularly within religious-based educational communities. The families of boarding school students at the An-Nur Foundation in Dili, Timor-Leste, mostly come from lower-middle-class economic backgrounds and lack an adequate understanding of how to manage household finances in a planned and sustainable manner. This community service activity aims to strengthen Sharia-based financial literacy as an effort to improve the economic well-being of the families of students at the An-Nur Dili Foundation. The implementation methods used include partner needs analysis, socialization of Sharia financial literacy, family financial management training, mentoring on simple financial record-keeping practices, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The results of the activity indicate an increase in participants’ understanding of the basic concepts of financial literacy, their ability to prepare household budgets, and their awareness of applying Sharia financial principles in daily life. Additionally, evaluation results show an average increase in participants’ understanding from 51.2 on the pre-test to 78.3 on the post-test following the completion of training and guidance. This mentoring program has a positive impact on changing the financial behavior of students’ families, making it more planned, organized, and oriented toward long-term well-being. It is hoped that this initiative can serve as a model for community service based on Islamic financial literacy that can be replicated in similar communities.

Abstract

Villages that produce plantation commodities have abundant natural resources, especially coffee, cardamom, and ginger. However, the utilization of these resources is still limited to the sale of raw materials without any processing innovations that add value. This community service program aims to empower rural communities through the development of innovative products such as Kopi Jaga, a functional beverage made from coffee, cardamom, and ginger. The implementation methods include mapping potential, field observations, discussions with stakeholders, technical processing training, product trials, and socialization and demonstrations of product manufacturing. The results of the activities show an increase in community knowledge about product processing and packaging techniques, as well as active participation of community groups in the production process. The enthusiasm of the community shows that Kopi Jaga has great potential to be developed into a competitive, high-value product. This innovation plays a role in strengthening the village's identity through the utilization of its unique plantation potential, improving the local economy, and expanding opportunities for home-based entrepreneurship. This program is the first step in building the village's economic independence while promoting a healthy lifestyle through traditional beverages with high nutritional value.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media has given rise to novel digital environments that have a major impact on the conduct and personality of santri, necessitating the enhancement of Islamic digital ethics in pesantren education. This community involvement program intends to change santri's digital ethics by using a social media-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning approach that is implemented in a pesantren setting. Throughout the program's implementation, a participatory mentorship model was used, including santri, PAI instructors, and pesantren administrators. By promoting the responsible use of social media as a learning platform and a means of creating Islamic digital content, the learning model integrated Islamic digital ethics into PAI education and fostered direct application. Program evaluation was conducted by examining santri-created materials, pre- and post-test exams, and observations. The findings demonstrate that santri's knowledge, behaviors, and practices related to Islamic digital ethics have significantly improved, as evidenced by greater respect for online interactions and their capacity to produce ethical, educational, and value-based digital content. This curriculum shows that social media–based PAI learning can be a successful and long-lasting approach to developing santri's digital character in the digital age.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is an important strategy for meeting infants’ nutritional needs and reducing the risk of health problems and stunting; however, its practice remains suboptimal in the community. Low rates of exclusive breastfeeding are influenced by limited maternal knowledge, belief in myths, and exposure to misinformation. This activity aimed to identify the reasons why mothers do not practice exclusive breastfeeding and to improve their understanding of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding through focus group discussions (FGDs) using a pocket book as an educational medium. The activity was conducted in RW 4 Parangloe, Tamalanrea District, Makassar City, involving 18 breastfeeding mothers, and applied a pre-test and post-test design to assess changes in knowledge. The results showed a significant increase in the mean knowledge score, from 55.56 in the pre-test to 91.67 in the post-test, with the Wilcoxon test indicating a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). It can be concluded that education through FGDs supported by a pocket book is effective in improving breastfeeding mothers’ knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding and may serve as an educational strategy to support the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding practices in the community.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) in education requires teachers to possess digital literacy and adapt to learning technology. However, there is still a competency gap among teachers in understanding basic AI and coding concepts, particularly in educational institutions that have not yet optimally utilized digital technology. Therefore, this community service activity was carried out with the aim of improving teachers' understanding and basic skills in artificial intelligence coding as a support for innovative learning. The community service method used was participatory and applied, implemented through preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The training activity involved 50 teachers and was conducted in the form of interactive lectures, discussions, and simple practical exercises related to coding and the use of AI in learning. Throughout the activity, a process evaluation was conducted through observation of participant participation, active participation in discussions, ability to participate in coding exercises, and completion of assigned tasks. This evaluation aimed to ensure that participants understood the material and actively participated in the training. Indicators of success at this stage were demonstrated by a minimum of 85% of participants completing the activity to completion and a minimum of 80% of participants completing the basic coding exercises and using the AI tools provided during the training. After all the material was delivered, a final evaluation was conducted through a post-test, simple AI-based project assignments, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The final evaluation was used to measure teacher competency improvement after participating in the training. The success of the program was demonstrated by an average post-test score increase of at least 30% compared to the pre-test results. In addition, at least 75% of participants were able to create simple AI-based projects or code according to the training material, and at least 80% of participants were able to integrate the use of AI technology into their learning designs. These findings confirm that artificial intelligence coding training is a strategic step in improving teacher competency and supporting technology-based learning transformation in educational environments.

Abstract

Maternal health within the community is a fundamental pillar in improving overall family health status. The Aisyiyah Women’s Religious Study Group of Purwojati Branch, Wuluhan, serving as the community partner, consists of 36 women in the premenopausal and menopausal age range who actively participate in social and religious activities. Many members experience joint stiffness, recurrent coughs and colds, decreased immunity, and physical discomfort related to hormonal changes. However, most of them lack adequate knowledge of promotive and preventive health strategies that could support their quality of life during the menopausal transition. CGOL beverage (Chlorophyll, Ginger, Orange, and Lemongrass) is a herbal drink formulation that is easy to prepare, rich in antioxidants, and has the potential to be developed as a family health beverage.
