Abstract

The representation of Islam in contemporary media often intersects with issues of religious authority, symbolic power, and the misuse of sacred texts. The film Bid’ah provided a critical depiction of religious manipulation through the cult of leadership, blind obedience, ritual deviation, and the misuse of Qur’anic verses to legitimize spiritual domination. This study aimed to examine the interpretive reception of the Qur’an in Bid’ah and to analyze how religious manipulation was constructed through discourse and power relations. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method by combining Michel Foucault’s discourse analysis with Qur’anic reception studies. The data were collected from selected scenes, dialogues, and narratives in the film and were analyzed thematically by relating them to relevant Qur’anic verses. The findings showed that religious manipulation in Bid’ah operated through the production of truth, the normalization of obedience, bodily discipline, and the symbolic authority of a sect leader. Qur’anic verses were represented not merely as sacred references, but also as contested texts that could be interpreted, distorted, or resisted within power relations. This study concluded that film Bid’ah offers an important media representation of how Qur’anic discourse can be misused to sustain religious authority while also affirming the Qur’anic principles of monotheism, critical reasoning, and ethical resistance.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the urgency of strengthening human resource managerial capacity in addressing economic disparities and limited financial access within the informal business sector. It proposes the integration of values derived from Surah Al-‘Alaq (verses 1–5) as a foundational framework for developing managerial capacity that is not only technically rational but also ethically grounded and sustainable. This study aims to examine the relevance and contribution of these values to the development of human resource managerial capacity among micro and small business actors. A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing normative analysis of Qur’anic texts combined with empirical insights into socio-economic behavior. The findings indicate that the values of literacy (iqra’), knowledge-seeking, and an ethical work orientation embedded in Surah Al-‘Alaq significantly contribute to the development of adaptive managerial practices, improved financial awareness, and enhanced human resource capacity. However, challenges such as a weak transformational mindset and opportunistic economic behavior remain constraints in capacity development. This study concludes that the integration of Qur’anic values provides a strategic and ethical framework for strengthening human resource managerial capacity in micro and small enterprises.

Abstract

The childfree phenomenon among Indonesian celebrities has sparked intense public debate regarding the essence of family and reproductive purposes. This research is crucial as this trend potentially shifts the paradigm of value education within Muslim families in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the childfree phenomenon through the lens of Tafsir Tarbawi to uncover the educational values inherent in the concept of progeny (dzurriyat). Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach, this study analytically examines Quranic verses concerning offspring thematically. The findings indicate that from a Tarbawi perspective, progeny is not merely a biological aspect but an educational mandate for the continuity of monotheistic messages (risalah tawhid). The discussion highlights that the childfree choice among celebrities is often driven by psychological anxiety and materialism, which contradicts the values of raja’ (hope) and tawakkal (trust in God). The novelty of this research lies in its integration of modern lifestyle discourse with Quranic educational values that position children as subjects of hereafter investment. The implications of this study emphasize the need for a comprehensive reorientation of pre-marital education curricula to safeguard family values against the influence of secular lifestyles.

Abstract

The Qur’an has generated a rich scholarly legacy in the form of diverse exegetical works produced through the intellectual engagement of Muslim scholars. Understanding these works of tafsīr requires specific and systematic methods to achieve a comprehensive interpretation. To date, the discipline of tafsīr manuscript studies continues to face challenges arising from the lack of synchronization and systematic organization in previous scholarly discussions. This study sought to reexamine existing procedures for manuscript studies while proposing a new and more logical systematic framework. This study employed both methodological and historical approaches. Data were collected through the documentation of tafsīr manuscripts and classified into primary and secondary sources. The data were analyzed in depth using content analysis techniques based on a conceptual framework for manuscript codification. The findings formulate nine standardized and sequential components for the systematic study of tafsīr manuscripts: physiological aspects (nuskhat al-kitāb), the exegete’s biography (tarjamat al-mufassir), sources (maṣdar), method (manhaj), presentation technique (ṭarīqah), orientation (lawn), theological affiliation (ittijāh), as well as an evaluation of the manuscript’s weaknesses (salbiyyāt) and strengths (ījābiyyāt).

Abstract

This study aims to (1) identify three dimensions of the digital crisis, ontological (AI singularity), relational (social disintegration), and epistemological (post-truth), through the lens of these verses; (2) construct a contextual exegesis relevant to the digital generation; and (3) formulate theological. and ethical implications for enhancing critical awareness within Muslim society.  Employing a qualitative library research design with a thematic exegesis (maudhu’i) approach enriched by interdisciplinary analysis (digital psychology, philosophy of technology, media studies) and Braun & Clarke’s thematic analysis, this study offers contextual relevance: zalzalah (shaking) with the AI governance crisis, tadhyīl (a mother neglecting her child) with consciousness disruption and the attention economy, and sukārā (drunken without intoxication) with hyper-reality and digital addiction.  The novelty of this study lies in the thematic reading linking three elements of the verse to three pillars of digital disruption, a multidisciplinary approach, and practical contributions to Qur’an-based digital literacy.  The study further highlights implications including the reconstruction of epistemic  authority (tabayyun), reaffirming human dignity, rebuilding social bonds, and prophetic critique of digital capitalism.

Abstract

Excessive use of gadgets has a negative impact on mental, social and physical health, and contradicts Islamic principles of respect for time and social care, so it is categorized as a munkar action. Countermeasures are carried out through psychological approaches, such as self-management counseling techniques, as well as spiritual approaches through the implementation of prayer practices referring to QS. Al'Ankabut verse 45 that prayer can prevent from immoral and unlawful actions. The method used is the tadabbur method formulated by Bachtiar Nasir. The results of the study show that prayers that are performed by appreciating the recitation, solemnity, dhikrullah, fulfilling all the conditions and pillars, and maintaining the time of implementation, have a role in shaping individual characters who are able to regulate themselves, become more disciplined, and develop  higher concentration and self-awareness in the use of digital devices. Therefore, prayer not only functions as ritual worship, but also has the potential to serve a form of spiritual therapy for addressing  gadget addiction.

Abstract

Several interpretations of the Qur'an in Indonesia have begun to apply this interpretation approach, for example in the interpretation of Al-Zhar to the interpretation of the Ministry of Religion working with LIPI (Institute of Sciences), one of the studies that applies scientific interpretation in the Qur'an is in understanding the creation of humans from the ground in the context of Surah Al-Hijr verses 26-33, the context of the ground in the text of this verse is then interpreted based on the dimensions of knowledge as applied by the interpretation of Al-Azhar and the interpretation of the Ministry of Religion, the purpose of this study is to find out how the interpretation of Al-Azhar and the interpretation of the Ministry of Religion explain the scientific dimensions in the context of the creation of humans mentioned in Surah Al-Hijr verses 26-33. The approach used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study show that both interpretations, both Al-Azhar and the Ministry of Religious Affairs, both apply scientific interpretation in explaining the creation of humans contained in Surah Al-Hijr verses 26-33. However, the Ministry of Religious Affairs interpretation goes into more depth in revealing aspects of the compounds contained in the soil, which are part of the interpretation of Surah Al-Hijr verses 26-33.

Abstract

This study examines the relationships among Religiosity, Islamic Hospital Image, Motivation of Piety, and Behavioral Intention in Choosing Islamic Medical Tourism Destinations (IMTD) in Indonesia. The research aims to analyze both the direct and indirect effects of religiosity and Islamic hospital image on behavioral intention through the mediating role of motivation of piety within the context of Islamic medical tourism. A quantitative explanatory research design was employed using a cross-sectional survey approach. Data were collected from 220 Indonesian Muslim respondents who were familiar with Islamic healthcare services and medical tourism concepts. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The findings reveal that Islamic Hospital Image has a positive and significant effect on Behavioral Intention (β = 1.308; p = 0.000), while Religiosity has a positive and significant effect on Motivation of Piety (β = 1.422; p = 0.000). The study contributes to the extension of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by integrating religiosity, Islamic hospital image, and motivation of piety into the context of Islamic medical tourism . The findings suggest that institutional healthcare perceptions play a more direct role in shaping behavioral intention, while religiosity operates indirectly through internal motivational mechanisms.

Abstract

As Islam spread to various regions, especially to Europe, the Islamic cosmological worldview—whose foundation is the revelation of Allah (Swt.)—had to encounter already established cosmological ideas. In Medieval Europe, the dominant Christian cosmological view was in fact heavily influenced by Greek philosophy, particularly the ideas of Plato and Aristotle. Later, in the modern period in Europe, the dominance of philosophy was gradually replaced by secular science, which tended toward ateistic perspectives. How, then, did Islam respond to these intellectual currents, both the constructions of Greek philosophy and secular science? Was Islam influenced by philosophy and science in such a way that it altered its cosmological worldview, or did it instead utilize them to reaffirm Islamic cosmology? This paper, which analyzes relevant texts using the approach of intellectual history, finds that Islamic cosmology—grounded in the revelation of Allah (Swt.)—has been successfully engaged in dialogue by Muslim thinkers to face the challenges posed by both traditions. They employed the same instruments of argumentation, namely philosophy and science, harmonizing them with divine revelation so that the dialogue remained balanced. This is demonstrated in the works of Muslim thinkers such as Ibn Sina, Al-Ghazali, Hossein Nasr, Naquib Al-Attas, and others. They successfully used philosophy and science to defend an Islamic cosmology based on the revelation of Allah (Swt.). The principles of Islamic cosmology have never changed, even when encountering philosophy and science.
