Abstract

This study examines the practice of boycotting pro-Zionist products through the perspectives of Qur’anic interpretation, Islamic business ethics, and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. Using a qualitative library research method, the study analyzes the Qur’an, Hadith, classical and contemporary tafsir, and recent academic literature (2019–2025). The findings show that Q.S. al-Mā’idah [5]: 2, al-Nisā’ [4]: 75, and al-Mumtahanah [60]: 1 provide an ethical foundation for avoiding cooperation with injustice and supporting oppressed communities. Within Islamic business ethics, boycott practices reflect justice, moral responsibility, and humanitarian concern. From the maqāṣid perspective, boycott practices contribute to the realization of maṣlaḥah through the protection of religion, life, and wealth while balancing benefit and harm. This study concludes that boycott practices represent a form of peaceful economic resistance rooted in Qur’anic values and Islamic ethics.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate a conceptual framework for Nahwu instruction based on the six qaulan typologies presented in the Qur’an. Methodologically, this research employs a qualitative library-based approach. Primary data consist of Qur’anic verses related to qaulan and authoritative tafsir works, while secondary data are drawn from the literature on Arabic linguistics and language pedagogy. The collected data were systematically selected, thematically classified, interpreted using a tafsīr mawḍū‘ī (thematic exegesis) approach, and synthesized into pedagogical framework for Nahwu instruction. The findings show that the six qaulan typologies_ qaulan sadīdan, balīghan, maysūran, layyinan, karīman, and ma‘rūfan_ can be operationalized as pedagogical principles emphasizing grammatical accuracy, meaningful communication, instructional simplification, constructive and gentle feedback, learner affirmation, and social relevance, respectively. The novelty lies in the development of a Qur’an-based pedagogical communication model for Nahwu instruction. Theoretically, it contributes to Arabic language pedagogy by positioning Qur’anic communication ethics as a foundational framework for a more humanistic, value-oriented, and communicative approach to teaching Arabic grammar.

Abstract

This study examines aspects of vernacularisation in tafsir al-Quran al-Karim by Ulama Tiga Serangkai. Various values of locality and culture in the interpretation of the Quran cannot be separated from the interpretation of the mufassir. This is a literature research with the primary source of tafsir al-Quran al-Karim by Ulama Tiga Serangkai. This research uses descriptive analysis and the conceptual theory of vernacularisation. The results show that vernacularisation is not only a process of language exchange from Arabic to local languages, but also includes locality elements. Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim has two types of vernacularisation: diction and narrative or content of interpretation. The form of vernacularisation in tafsir al-Quran al-Karim uses the word Lembu (cow) to explain the meaning of baqarah, Pertukangan (Work) is used to define a job done by every human being. In the form of narrative or content of interpretation tafsir al-Quran al-Karim tells a hikayat at the beginning of each letter, hikayat in the Malay tradition is literature that is closely related to the daily life of the community. As in QS. Ali Imran Tiga Serangkai scholars began by explaining the saga of the Germans about the eternal Arabic language.

Abstract

This article investigates the genealogical relationship between Said Nursi’s Qurʼanic exegetical thought and the Ottoman intellectual tradition, with particular emphasis on the intellectual lineage connecting Ottoman institutional tafsir, as represented by Abu al-Suʼud Efendi, and Nursi’s modern-reformist hermeneutics. This study aims to identify how Ottoman exegetical authority, political structures, and intellectual transmission shaped the foundations of Nursi’s tafsir methodology. Employing a genealogical approach combined with socio-historical and hermeneutic analysis, and relying on content analysis of primary and secondary sources, this study reveals three principal findings: first, Nursi was deeply embedded in the Ottoman educational tradition through his madrasah formation and early scholarly networks; second, his engagement with Abu al-Suʼud’s textual legacy, whether direct or mediated, constitutes a foundational intellectual inheritance that Nursi simultaneously preserved and transformed; and third, the transition from institutional exegesis (Abu al-Suʼud) to social-reformist exegesis (Nursi) represents an internal dialectical evolution, not a rupture. The primary contribution of this study lies in reconceptualizing Turkish tafsir as an unbroken genealogical chain shaped by the interplay of interpretive authority, political transformation, and social change.

Abstract

This study critically evaluates Muhammad Shahrur’s claims in Nahw Usul Jadidah, which assert that Quranic qira’at variations resulted from technical codification errors in early manuscripts and ideological manipulation by classical scholars. Using a qualitative method through doctrinal-comparative analysis and source criticism, Shahrur’s framework is confronted with the epistemological standards of classical qira’at sciences, specifically the three pillars of validity (arkan al-qira’at) formulated by Ibn al-Jazari. The findings reveal a systemic epistemological failure across four layers: (1) an ontological error that disregards the tauqifi (divinely dictated) nature of qira'at; (2) a historical fallacy concerning the chronology of Hajjaj bin Yusuf’s i’jam project, wherein oral transmission was already well-established; (3) unsubstantiated allegations of sociological manipulation; and (4) the adoption of Orientalist premises that assume a document-centric fluid text while overlooking the rigorous network of oral transmission (musyafahah). The novelty of this study lies in exposing the genealogy of Shahrur’s arguments, which structurally reproduce Western historical-critical approaches using modern terminology, while identifying categorical errors in his use of classical philological sources. This research reaffirms that the integrity of qira’at mutawatir remains robust through traditional oral transmission infrastructure.

Abstract

At MA Al-Falah, Gorontalo, students’ interest in Qur’an-Hadith learning remains low despite the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program, which provides daily healthy meals to support students’ physical readiness. This study examined the effect of this program on students’ learning interest, with learning motivation as a mediating variable, grounded in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Conducted with a total sample of 104 students, , data were collected via a four-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using path analysis. Results revealed that the program did not significantly influence learning motivation (β = 0.116, p = 0.243) or learning interest (β = 0.113, p = 0.119), whereas learning motivation significantly affected learning interest (β = 0.673, p < 0.001). Mediation analysis indicated that learning motivation did not mediate the program’s effect. These findings highlight that intrinsic motivation is the dominant factor in fostering students’ interest in Qur’an-Hadith learning. While nutritional programs support students’ physical readiness, enhancing learning interest requires pedagogical strategies that foster intrinsic motivation, experiential engagement, and spiritual-emotional involvement.

Abstract

This study examines the gold trading dispute between Budi Said and PT Aneka Tambang tbk from the perspective of the Qur'an and Islamic economic perspective, with particular emphasis on the concept of ribā al-nasī’ah. The case centers on  a documented discrepancy involving 1,136 kilograms of gold arising from a deferred-delivery sales contract in which payment was made in full upfront,  while the physical delivery of the gold was carried out in  in stages over an extended period. an extended period, from a total transaction valued at approximately IDR 3.5 trillion. The case centers on a documented discrepancy involving 1,136 kilograms of gold arising from a deferred-delivery sales contract in which payment was made in full upfront, while the physical delivery of the gold was carried out. The total value of the transaction was approximately IDR 3.5 trillion. The contractual arrangement—characterized by advance  payment, delayed and non-simultaneous delivery, and non-transparent discount mechanisms — raises complex legal and ethical questions under Islamic commercial law. This research employs a qualitative library-based methodology that integrates normative-juridical analysis, Qur’anic exegesis (tafsīr taḥlīlī and tafsīr mawḍū’ī), and maqāṣid al-sharī’ah analysis. The study draws upon data from judicial decisions, including Supreme Court Cassation No. 1666 K/Pdt/2022 and Surabaya District Court No. 158/Pdt.G/2020/PN.Sby., as well as official case reports and both classical and contemporary Islamic jurisprudential literature. The findings demonstrate that the transaction structure violates the principle of yadan bi yadin (immediate mutual possession) and constitutes ribā al-nasī’ah due to the deferral of gold delivery beyond the time of payment.  Furthermore, the lack of transparency in the discount mechanisms introduce elements of gharar (uncertainty) and represents a breach of amānah. These violations produced multidimensional consequences, including a judicially verified material loss of IDR 817,465,600,000, legal sanctions, reputational damage, and a decline in institutional trust. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative application of Qur’anic exegesis alongside case-specific juridical analysis to demonstrate that classical Sharī‘ah principles governing commercial transactions  remain highly relevant and operationally applicable to contemporary large-scale institutional transactions.

Abstract

The manuscript of the mushaf al-Qur'an produced by the Surakarta Sultanate represents an intellectual heritage of Nusantara Islam possessing significant historical, philological, and cultural value. This research aims to identify the characteristics of the manuscript, examine the nature of the scribal anomalies contained within, and analyze its implications for the meaning and interpretation of the Qur'an. The research uses a qualitative method with a tahqiq approach of the manuscript combined with codicological analysis, paleography, and text comparison against the standard Ottoman rasm. The object of research is focused on the mushaf  manuscript of the mushaf coded MAA.001 which is stored in the Library of the Great Mosque of Kasunanan Surakarta. The results of the study show that the manuscript is estimated to have been written in the period 1780–1820 AD and functions as a liturgical, educational, and symbolic medium of religious legitimacy in the palace environment. The tahqiq analysis reveal several writing errors in the QS. al-Taubah verses 81, 83, and 84, in the form of changes in letters and harakat that cause a significant shift in meaning, but are not related to the variation of authentic qira'at. In addition, there was a tendency to use the rasm imlā'ī mixed with the rasm 'Utsmānī as well as orthographic inconsistencies in some parts of the manuscript. These findings show that the variation in writing is more caused by technical factors of copying and uneven standardization of mushaf in the archipelago than by differences in qira'at traditions. This study emphasizes the importance of tahqiq studies on the Nusantara mushaf manuscripts as an effort to maintain the accuracy of the Qur'an text, reconstruct the history of Islamic scientific transmission in Java, and support the preservation of the heritage of Indonesian Islamic manuscripts.

Abstract

This mixed-methods study examined the effectiveness of a talaqqī-based tahsin strategy implemented at Masjid At‑Taqwa, Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang, in addressing students’ limited proficiency in makhraj, tajwīd, and reading fluency. Qualitative data were collected through structured observations, document analysis, and semi‑structured interviews with purposively selected participants, including students and instructors. Quantitative data were derived from mentoring examination outcomes across two academic years, involving 2,211 students in 2023–2024 and 1,889 students in 2024–2025. The intervention  integrated the principles of talaqqī (listening, imitation, repetition, and immediate correction) within a mosque‑based learning ecosystem consisting of the daily Subuhan Maos Qur’an program and weekly activities, namely —Tahsin Monday, Tilāwah Wednesday, and Kahfian Thursday. Across both cohorts, examination results showed substantial improvement in students’ recitation competence. The pass rate increased from 82.41% (1,822 of 2,211 students) in the 2023–2024 academic year to 90.26% (1,705 of 1,889 students) in 2024–2025, while the failure rate declined from 17.59% (389 of 2,211 students) to 9.74% (184 of 1,889 students).  These quantitative trends were corroborated by observational and interview data, which revealed marked improvements in the accuracy of articulation, consistency in the application of tajwīd rules, and overall reading fluency. Participants also reported enhanced motivation, greater learning discipline, and deeper spiritual engagement with the Qur’an. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on the Qur’anic pedagogy by proposing a scalable, practice‑intensive talaqqī model for higher education. By integrating large‑scale assessment data with qualitative evidence derived from a structured campus mosque program, the study offers a replicable framework for cultivating a sustainable Qur’anic learning and strengthening religious literacy among university students. The findings further demonstrate the potential of mosque-based educational ecosystems to serve as effective platforms for fostering both technical proficiency in Qur’anic recitation and the spiritual formation of learners.
