Abstract

Theological debates often developed into prolonged polemics that gradually diverted theological discourse from the primary objectives of Qur’anic guidance. This study aims to examine the conceptual foundations of al-Galayand’s project and to identify the interpretive approach underlying it through a maqāṣidī theoretical framework. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study analyzed al-Galayand’s major works, including ʿAqīdah Bilā Madhāhib, ʿAqīdah al-Tawḥīd, al-Tasāmuḥ ‘inda al-Ghazali, al-Ummah bi Ḥājah ilā Tajdīd Ta‘allum al-‘Aqīdah, Makānat al-‘Aql fī al-Qur’ān, ʿAqīdat al-Tawḥīd Dīn Jamīʿ al-Anbiyāʾ, and Taqrīb al-Turāth: Dar’ Taʿāruḍ al-ʿAql Wa al-Naql Li Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah. The analysis focuses on his critique of madhhab-centred theology and his method of engaging with Qur’anic theological discourse. The study argues al-Galayand’s theological reading can be characterized as a model of maqāṣidī reconciliative interpretation_an interpretative approach that integrates purposive Qur’anic theology with a reconciliatory perspective toward theological diversity. Through this approach, theological discourse is redirected toward the Qur’anic overaching objectives  of faith while simultaneously recognizing the legitimacy of theological plurality within the Islamic intellectual tradition.

Abstract

This study aims to construct an Islamic ecotheological paradigm to serve as a theological framework for preventing fasād (destruction), based on a thematic interpretation of the mīzān (balance) verses in the Qur'an. Methodologically, this study employs a qualitative approach utilizing Abd al-Hayy al-Farmawī’s thematic Qur’anic (mawdūʿī) framework. The analytical steps involve aggregating relevant verses on mīzān, tracing their contextual meanings, establishing correlations (munāsabah), and synthesizing these textual insights into a structured ecological concept. The results indicate that the mīzān verses do not merely refer to eschatological justice but also serve as a fundamental principle for ecological equilibrium that must be maintained by humans as khalīfah. This Islamic ecotheological paradigm integrates theological awareness with ethical responsibility, positioning nature as an integral part of human existence rather than a mere object of exploitation. The novelty of this research lies in the synthesis between the metaphysical concept of mīzān and contemporary ecological ethics, providing a spiritual-preventive solution to environmental damage. These findings imply that internalizing the values of mīzān can strengthen environmental conservation efforts through a religious-holistic paradigm.

Abstract

This study analyzes the concepts of musyāhadah (inner witnessing) and tajallī (Divine manifestation) in Surah Ar-Rūm (30): 8, 21, and 22, and critically examines their contextualization within multicultural Islamic education. Employing a qualitative library research design, this study operationally applies Abdullah Saeed’s contextualist approach to bridge the text’s historical meaning with contemporary social challenges. The findings reveal that cosmic reflection (v. 8), relational tranquility (v. 21), and linguistic-racial diversity (v. 22) are not merely passive objects of theological contemplation, but active empirical loci where the Divine manifests (tajallī) and is spiritually internalised (musyāhadah). The discussion demonstrates that these concepts provide a radical epistemological shift from conventional, cognitive-moralistic models of character education toward a transformative paradigm that embraces pluralism as a living curriculum. The novelty of this study lies in its explicit contextualization of Sufi metaphysics to counter modern religious exclusivism, transforming the pinnacle of Sufi spiritual realization from isolated asceticism into an active social engagement. The implications suggest that integrating these concepts into contemporary Islamic education fosters a "compassionate pedagogy" that moves beyond passive tolerance toward transformative inclusivity.

Abstract

The representation of Islam in contemporary media often intersects with issues of religious authority, symbolic power, and the misuse of sacred texts. The film Bid’ah provided a critical depiction of religious manipulation through the cult of leadership, blind obedience, ritual deviation, and the misuse of Qur’anic verses to legitimize spiritual domination. This study aimed to examine the interpretive reception of the Qur’an in Bid’ah and to analyze how religious manipulation was constructed through discourse and power relations. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method by combining Michel Foucault’s discourse analysis with Qur’anic reception studies. The data were collected from selected scenes, dialogues, and narratives in the film and were analyzed thematically by relating them to relevant Qur’anic verses. The findings showed that religious manipulation in Bid’ah operated through the production of truth, the normalization of obedience, bodily discipline, and the symbolic authority of a sect leader. Qur’anic verses were represented not merely as sacred references, but also as contested texts that could be interpreted, distorted, or resisted within power relations. This study concluded that film Bid’ah offers an important media representation of how Qur’anic discourse can be misused to sustain religious authority while also affirming the Qur’anic principles of monotheism, critical reasoning, and ethical resistance.

Abstract

Educational philanthropy is a form of social empathy that plays a crucial role in assisting financially challenged communities in accessing education. Ongoing economic inequality impacts the educational sustainability of students, making philanthropy a social mechanism for strengthening solidarity and expanding learning opportunities. This study aims to analyze the role of philanthropic funds in supporting educational access and sustainability. The methodology used is a qualitative approach through literature studies and conceptual analysis of philanthropic values from an Islamic perspective derived from the Qur'an. The results show that financial barriers can be overcome through philanthropic practices such as providing scholarships, educational assistance, and social support based on religious values. Educational philanthropy has not only a socio-economic dimension but also a theological one as the implementation of Qur'anic values in social life. The novelty of this study lies in the emphasis on students as the primary recipients of philanthropy and the integration of Qur'anic values as the basis for social ethics. The implication is that strengthening philanthropy based on religious values can support a more inclusive and equitable education system.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the urgency of strengthening human resource managerial capacity in addressing economic disparities and limited financial access within the informal business sector. It proposes the integration of values derived from Surah Al-‘Alaq (verses 1–5) as a foundational framework for developing managerial capacity that is not only technically rational but also ethically grounded and sustainable. This study aims to examine the relevance and contribution of these values to the development of human resource managerial capacity among micro and small business actors. A qualitative research approach was employed, utilizing normative analysis of Qur’anic texts combined with empirical insights into socio-economic behavior. The findings indicate that the values of literacy (iqra’), knowledge-seeking, and an ethical work orientation embedded in Surah Al-‘Alaq significantly contribute to the development of adaptive managerial practices, improved financial awareness, and enhanced human resource capacity. However, challenges such as a weak transformational mindset and opportunistic economic behavior remain constraints in capacity development. This study concludes that the integration of Qur’anic values provides a strategic and ethical framework for strengthening human resource managerial capacity in micro and small enterprises.

Abstract

The childfree phenomenon among Indonesian celebrities has sparked intense public debate regarding the essence of family and reproductive purposes. This research is crucial as this trend potentially shifts the paradigm of value education within Muslim families in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the childfree phenomenon through the lens of Tafsir Tarbawi to uncover the educational values inherent in the concept of progeny (dzurriyat). Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method with a library research approach, this study analytically examines Quranic verses concerning offspring thematically. The findings indicate that from a Tarbawi perspective, progeny is not merely a biological aspect but an educational mandate for the continuity of monotheistic messages (risalah tawhid). The discussion highlights that the childfree choice among celebrities is often driven by psychological anxiety and materialism, which contradicts the values of raja’ (hope) and tawakkal (trust in God). The novelty of this research lies in its integration of modern lifestyle discourse with Quranic educational values that position children as subjects of hereafter investment. The implications of this study emphasize the need for a comprehensive reorientation of pre-marital education curricula to safeguard family values against the influence of secular lifestyles.

Abstract

Food security in Indonesia is strained by the degradation of 8.2 million hectares of agricultural land and a declining farmer regeneration rate. This study analyzes the intersection between geographic spatial instruments and Qur'anic thematic principles to formulate a more measurable sustainable development framework. Using a qualitative-interdisciplinary method, this research synthesizes spatial-ecological data with tafsir maudhu’i focused on resource management verses. The results establish a "Teo-Ecological Framework" for food security consisting of three primary indicators: (1) Al-Mizan-based Spatial Planning, which utilizes land carrying capacity as the treshold for industrial expansion; (2) Khalifah-oriented Resource Stewardship, a model for precision agriculture that integrates theIoT (Internet of Things)  with ethical resource use; and (3) Zero-Israf Logistics, a supply chain management indicator to reduce national food loss and waste. This study concludes that the integration of these Qur'anic geographic values into Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) provides a concrete ethical-technical basis for long-term food resilience, moving beyond purely production-centric policies.

Abstract

The concept of ulil amri in QS. An-Nisa’ [4]: 59 occupies a significant position in Islamic discourses on authority and obedience, particularly within contemporary Muslim societies where debates concerning the nature and legitimacy of religious authority continue to evolve. This study aims to examine the epistemological construction of ulil amri through a comparative analysis of Tafsir Marah Labid by Nawawi al-Bantani and Tafsir Al-Misbah by M. Quraish Shihab. Employing a qualitative library-based approach and the method of comparative exegesis, the study draws upon primary tafsir sources as well as  relevant scholarly literature on Qur’anic interpretation and Islamic intellectual traditions. The findings reveal that Nawawi al-Bantani embodies a classical Sunni epistemology characterized by an emphasis on textual authority and the hierarchical position of religious scholars, whereas Quraish Shihab represents a contextual and integrative epistemology that accommodates contemporary socio-intellectual realities. The study demonstrates that the epistemological transformation from classical Nusantara exegesis to contemporary Indonesian tafsir has significantly influenced  the construction of religious authority and obedience in modern Muslim societiesAccordingly, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of how epistemological frameworks shape exegetical perspectives and inform evolving conceptions of authority within contemporary Islamic thought.
