Abstract

This study examines the transformation of Qur’an-Hadith literacy among Muslim students in the digital religious public sphere. Employing an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design, the study involved 120 students at Universitas Islam Negeri Datokarama Palu as questionnaire respondents and 12 purposively selected informants drawn from the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Dakwah, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, Faculty of Sharia, Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, and Ma’had al-Jami’ah/campus-based religious study communities. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through percentage tabulation, while qualitative data were examined through manual thematic analysis. The findings indicated that 73.3% of students engage with Qur’an-Hadith content via digital media at least three times a week. YouTube emerged as the predominant platform (35.0%), followed by TikTok (25.8%), Instagram (17.5%), and digital Qur’an/tafsir/hadith applications (15.0%). Audiovisual platforms were used by 78.3% of respondents, indicating that students prefer visual, concise, and algorithmically recommended religious content. Nevertheless, 74.2% of respondents regarded conventional learning as the most authoritative source for deeper Qur’an-Hadith understanding. The study concluded that students’ Qur’an-Hadith literacy reflects a hybrid pattern: in which digital media function as an initial point of access, while conventional academic and kitab-based learning remains central to verification, interpretive depth, and epistemological legitimacy.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the concept of Islamic mindfulness based on Q.S. Al-Baqarah verse 286 as an alternative approach to addressing mental health issues among Generation Z. This research employed a qualitative approach using library research with thematic interpretation and descriptive-critical analysis. Data were obtained from the Qur’an, classical and contemporary tafsir literature, psychology books, and scientific journals discussing mindfulness, Islamic psychology, and mental health. The findings revealed that Al-Baqarah verse 286 contains three major dimensions of Islamic mindfulness, namely self-awareness, self-acceptance, and emotional regulation, which were reconstructed into the 3L I-Mind model consisting of Limit, Load, and Lightness. This model emphasizes awareness of self-capacity, moral responsibility in facing life burdens, and spiritual relief through prayer and reliance on Allah. The novelty of this study lies in the reconstruction of Al-Baqarah 286 as a systematic and applicable Islamic mindfulness framework that integrates Qur’anic values with modern mental health theories. This study implies that Islamic mindfulness may serve as a contextual psycho-spiritual approach to strengthen the mental resilience of Muslim Generation Z in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of integrating the senses and the heart in recognizing the existence of God from the perspective of the Qur'an. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research and the thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhu'i) method. The findings reveal that the senses perceive empirical signs (ayat kauniyah) that demonstrate Allah’s power, while the interprets,  internalizes, and affirms the truth thus obtained, thereby generating faith in Allah. The integration of the two occurs through empirical observation, rational reflection, and spiritual internalization, leading to the development of God-consciousness. This study contributes by proposing an epistemological model of recognizing God that positions the senses and the heart as complementary instruments, thereby enriching thematic Qur'anic studies that have generally been discussed separately. The implications of this study indicate that recognizing God through the integration of the senses and the heart contributes to the development of reflective faith, deeper spiritual awareness, and the advancement of knowledge integrated with divine values.

Abstract

This study examines the reconsideration of the father's role in strengthening family resilience through a Qur'anic thematic exegesis (tafsir mawdhu'i) perspective, positioned as a proactive scholarly response to the growing phenomenon of fatherlessness in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative methodology integrating tafsir mawdhu'i with descriptive-analytical and socio-psychological hermeneutic approaches, this study systematically traces Qur'anic verses related to paternal roles across authoritative classical and contemporary tafsir works (including Tafsir al-Thabari, Ibn Kathir, Al-Kasysyaf, and Al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir).  The findings reveal that the Qur'an constructs paternal responsibility as multidimensional: as accountable leader (qawwam) in An-Nisa'/4:34, just provider in Al-Baqarah/2:233, and moral-spiritual guardian through At-Tahrim/66:6.  Qur'anic paternal archetypes,Luqman (31:13–19), the Prophet Ya'qub (Yusuf/12:67–68), and Ibrahim, serve as comprehensive blueprints for active paternal involvement.  The novelty of this research lies in the formulation of a five-component integrated model: (1) paternal role optimization, (2) Islamic coping strategies, (3) ecoparenting, (4) Qur'an-based father–child relational development, and (5) father training programs, as a contextualized framework to prevent fatherlessness and strengthen family resilience in the Indonesian socio-cultural context.

Abstract

This study aims to answer the research questions regarding the distinctive characteristics, systematic writing methodology of the book Al-Muyassar fī al-Qira’at al-Sab’ by KH. Fahrur Razi Abdillah, and its specific contributions to contemporary qira'at science. Employing a qualitative research design with a content analysis approach, this library research examines the primary text in depth. The findings indicate that the hallmark of Al-Muyassar lies in its highly structured organization, meticulously detailed presentation of jam'u al-qira’at, and communicative linguistic style. Its writing system systematically begins with the complete presentation of Qur'anic verses, followed by the use of a specific color-coding mechanism to isolate words containing recitation variants, a guide for the jam' sequence, and comprehensive explanations paired with textual evidence ('adillah) from Matan al-Shatibiyyah. Amidst the lineage of celebrated qira'at texts in Indonesia, such as Faidhul Barakat and Mamba'ul Barakat, the theoretical contribution of this book lies in expanding the treasury of qira'at scholarship by introducing a more refined dimension to the jam' methodology through a clear, intuitive, and highly accessible content organization for readers, without reducing the validity of traditional, sanad-based qira'at knowledge.

Abstract

This study examines the construction of environmental ethics in the interpretation of QS. Ar-Rūm [30]:41 in Tarjumān al-Mustafīd and its relationship to the socio-historical context of seventeenth-century Malay Muslim society. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study analyzes Tarjumān al-Mustafīd as the primary source, supported by classical Qur’anic commentaries, studies on Malay Islamic intellectual history, and contemporary literature on Islamic ecotheology. Anthony Giddens’ structuration theory is utilized to examine the reciprocal relationship between exegetical discourse and the socio-religious structures within which the tafsir was produced, transmitted, and received. The findings demonstrate that the concept of fasād in QS. Ar-Rūm [30]:41 is interpreted not merely as moral and religious corruption but also as social and ecological degradation resulting from human actions. The interpretation reflects the contextualization of Qur’anic teachings within the historical realities of seventeenth-century Malay society, where religious knowledge functioned both as a product of existing social structures and as a medium for shaping ethical consciousness and communal order. This study contributes to the fields of Nusantara Qur’anic exegesis and Islamic ecotheology by revealing how environmental ethics were articulated in an early Malay tafsir through the dynamic interplay of scriptural interpretation, socio-historical context, and religious authority. The findings further offer a historical foundation for contemporary Islamic environmental discourse in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the correlation (munāsabah) between Surah Al-Mulk and Surah Al-Qalam and its relevance to character education from the perspective of Wahbah al-Zuhaylī. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach. Data were collected from classical and contemporary tafsir literature, especially Tafsir Al-Munir by Wahbah al-Zuhaylī. The findings reveal a strong thematic continuity between Surah Al-Mulk, which emphasizes divine sovereignty and spiritual awareness, and Surah Al-Qalam, which highlights moral development and the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This correlation indicates that tawhidic awareness (tawḥīd) serves as the foundation for character building. According to Wahbah al-Zuhaylī, character education is rooted in values of faith, morality, patience, and integrity.

Abstract

The massive presence of Isr îliyy t in Ath-Thabari’s exegesis is considered to have a negative impact in two ways: first, the tendency to accept it as truth because it appears in a trusted exegetical work; and second, the biased narratives regarding women often lead to discrimination and negative stigmatization. This article seeks to understand the role of Isr îliyy t within Ath-Thabari’s interpretive framework and to assess the influence of Isra’iliyyat and weak hadiths on the exegesis of verses concerning women’s issues. Using Foucauldian theory, this literature review demonstrates that, as an object of discourse, Ath-Thabari’s exegesis is subject to the power of al-‘Ilm. At the same time, it negotiates the gaps in differing opinions, thereby producing an independent interpretive product. The findings of this study indicate that for Ath-Thabari, the Isr îliyy t do not serve as the basis for interpretation but rather as a form of support. Consequently, their inclusion in this exegesis does not influence the interpretive outcome, including that pertaining to women’s issues. Abstract

This study aims to examine the maqāṣidī exegesis critique of the flexing culture, with a particular focus on Muhammad Ṭāhir Ibn ‘Āshūr’s interpretation in Al-Taḥrīr wa al-Tanwīr. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach and thematic exegesis method, the formal object of this research is the theory of maqāṣid al-Qur’ān, while the material object comprises Qur’anic verses relevant to flexing behavior. The scope of the study includes Surah al-Qashash (76–83), al-Ḥadīd (20), and other verses addressing prohibitions against isrāf, tabdhīr, and riyā’. The findings reveal that Ibn ‘Āshūr interprets the phenomenon of flexing as a deviation from the maqāṣid al-Qur’ān, which emphasize values of simplicity, qanā‘ah (contentment), and social responsibility. This maqāṣidī critique underscores that flexing negatively impacts Islamic character education by weakening the internalization of values such as zuhd (asceticism), ikhlāṣ (sincerity), and wasaṭiyyah (moderation) in moral development. The novelty of this study lies in positioning Qur’anic maqāṣidī exegesis as a critical framework for addressing contemporary digital culture, offering an integrative ethical foundation that connects classical tafsir with modern challenges of consumerism. This contribution enriches Islamic character education discourse by providing a Qur’anic-based alternative to counteract the ethical crisis of flexing in the digital era.
