Abstract

In Islam, slander is considered more cruel than murder because it can lead a person to lose their beliefs and commit worse acts. Many are unaware of the various forms of slander in their lives, which can be both good and bad. This study aims to reveal the forms of slander in Qur'anic stories according to Sayyid Qutb, a story-patterned mufassir. Using literature research and descriptive analysis, Qutb interprets the story of Asḥābul Kahf as a test of faith through pagan rulers and societies. In Shaḥibul Jannatain, there is a test of wealth, contrasting a proud, wealthy young man with a grateful, less wealthy one. The story of Moses and the Servant of God depicts a test of knowledge, with Moses humbly seeking knowledge. In the story of Dzulkarnain, a test of power is shown, where Dzulkarnain remains grateful and wise despite his unlimited power.

Abstract

This study discusses the interpretation uffin in the Qur'an as a form of sarcasm in response to the decline of morality ethics in social interaction between people or generations. The type of research used is analytical descriptive research with a qualitative approach, because it  is a method used to analyze the contents of the message conveyed by the verses mentioned the word uffin in it based on the interpretation of ulama. The results found that the word uffin was used in different contexts, both as a prohibition on hurting parents, as an expression of anger and disapproval, and the uffin words as denial to God, parents and those who give religious advice or the message of kindness to others. According to the ulama interpretation, uffin expresses dissatisfaction, anger, even insult, which is considered linguistically rude or full of annoyance. These results provide insight into how the word uffin is used as sarcasm in social interaction. The implications of this research emphasize the need to understand the context of the use of sarcasm in everyday life and to develop the right attitude in responding to it, in order to maintain ethical and moral harmony in social interactions.

Abstract

Tafsir Ja>mi' al-Baya>n 'an Takwi>l Al-Qur’a>n by Ibn Jari>r al-T}abari> is a bi al-ma'thu>r tafsir book that is often used as a reference by other bi al-ma'thu>r tafsir books. But in his interpretation, al-T}abari> uses a lot of isra>i>li>yya>>>t history. In fact, not all isra>i>liyya>>t history can be accepted and used as a reference. History of isra>i>li>yya>>>t that contradicts religious law is rejected as a reference in interpreting the Qur'an. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the infiltration contained in al-T}abari's interpretation of   the story of the test of Prophet Solomon in QS. This research method uses a descriptive-analytical approach with the theory of al-as}i>l wa al-dakhi>l. The results of this study indicate the infiltration (dakhi>l) carried out by al-T}abari>> when interpreting surah Sa>d 34. In his interpretation, he cites isra>i>li>yya>>>t history which states that the test of Prophet Solomon is that Satan has taken the ring which is the source of Prophet Solomon's strength and changed himself to resemble Prophet Solomon. This narration clearly contradicts Islamic shari'a because it is impossible for Satan to resemble the form of the Prophet who is an awake human being or ma's}u>m.

Abstract

Blindness is a medical disease characterised by the partial or complete loss of vision, known as visual impairment or absolute blindness, respectively. The phenomenon of blindness is also mentioned in the Qur'an in several words, including: Al-A'maa, al-Akmah, and Ibyadhadh al-'Ain. This research intends to analyze the differences between al-A'maa, al-Akmah, and Ibyadhadh al-'Ain linguistically and scientifically. This study employs a library research methodology that utilises a descriptive and analytical technique to examine the linguistic and scientific distinctions among the three terms for blindness in the Qur'an. Several linguistic and scientific distinctions may be seen between the three terms of blindness that are found in the Qur'an, as shown by the findings of this research.: First, al-A'maa has two meanings, namely the ultimate meaning and majazi meaning. The connotation of the essential meaning of al-A'maa means total blindness, while the majazi meaning is related to disbelief and misguidance. Second, al-Akmah has three connotations of meanings: ophthalmic genetic, epiphora, and nyctalopia. Third, Ibyadhadh al-'Ain, which happened to the prophet Jacob As, is a cataract disease caused by traumatic and senile cataracts.

Abstract

The study of the methodology of interpretation not only leads us to be able to understand the content of the Qur'an, but more than that we can know the processes and procedures and ways of each mufassir in interpreting the Qur'an. The purpose of this study is to analyze the method of interpretation of al-Tafsir al-Tarbawi li al-Qur'an al-Karim by Anwar Al-Baz. This research belongs to the type of qualitative research based on literature study using a descriptive analysis approach. The results of this study conclude that there are five specific methods applied by Anwar al-Baz in his tafsir, namely maintaining the writing system based on the mushaf, explaining the meaning of mufradat, explaining the procedural purpose of the verse, explaining the content of verses that have relevance to education, and explaining globally the instructions of verses related to education. The aim of the tarbawi interpretation approach brought by Anwar Al-Baz aims to explore the educational values contained in the verses of the Koran, not specifically to form an educational system or methodology.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze qirā’āh sab‘ah in Surah an-Nisā’ [4] as explained in the tafsir Marāḥ Labīd by Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani, focusing on the variations of qirā’āt that fall under the rule of farsy al-ḥurūf. This study is significant in uncovering the use of the seven Quranic readings (qira'at sab'ah) in Nusantara exegesis and the extent of their influence on the interpretations of scholars. Given that Sheikh Nawawi is one of the prominent Nusantara scholars whose tafsir is widely referenced by exegetes. This research adopts a library-based approach (library research) with a descriptive-analytical method. The analytical steps include presenting the words containing farsy al-ḥurūf in Surah an-Nisā’ [4] and examining their meanings and implications using the taujīh al-qirā’āt approach. The findings indicate that Surah an-Nisā’ contains 49 words from 43 verses classified under the rule of farsy al-ḥurūf. In Marāḥ Labīd, 23 words from 21 verses employing qirā’āh sab’ah are identified. The novelty of this research lies in three aspects, the study of qirā’āh sab’ah in traditional tafsir, particularly in Marāḥ Labīd. the application of the taujīh al-qirā’āt approach, providing a new perspective on how variations in Qur'anic readings can be explained and understood in linguistic, theological, and exegetical contexts. The contribution to the study of Nusantara tafsir, highlighting the works of local scholars and broadening the discourse of Qur'anic Studies. This research significantly enhances the understanding of qirā’āh and tafsir, particularly in the context of traditional Islamic scholarship in the Nusantara region.

Abstract

Maqāṣidi interpretation, as one approach to interpretation, provides a solution in the contemporary era, which is full of complex problems. However, some research and interpretation results sometimes produce conclusions that are contrary to the expected understanding, due to unfulfilled interpretation ethics. Therefore, this study aims to explore the ethics of an interpreter who interprets Qur'anic verses using the maqāṣidi approach according to the perspective of Ibn 'Asyur, a renowned interpreter known for his maqāṣidi interpretive style. The object of study and primary data in this research is the Muqaddimah Tafsīr al-Taḥrīr wa Tanwīr by Ibn 'Asyur. Significant findings from Ibn 'Asyur's thought affirm the existence of an epistemological revolution that balances textual literalism and the objectives of sharia, challenging the dominance of conservative interpretation without falling into unrestrained liberalism. If applied consistently, this approach can dismantle the stagnant authority of classical tafsir and open space for interpretations of the Qur'an that are more relevant to the challenges of the times. However, without a strong epistemological foundation, maqāṣidi tafsir risks becoming a tool for legitimizing overly flexible interpretations, thereby losing its authority as part of divine revelation.

Abstract

The Hedonic Treadmill phenomenon illustrates the human tendency to pursue material pleasures without achieving sustainable satisfaction. The Qur'an warns about the dangers of excessive love of the world in QS. Āli 'Imrān [3]: 14, QS. At-Takāṣur [102]: 1, and QS. Al-Fajr [89]: 20. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon through the approach of the study of mufasir figures, focusing on Wahbah Zuhaili's interpretation in Tafsir al-Munir. Qualitative-descriptive method is employed, utilizing primary data from Wahbah Zuhaili's interpretation and secondary data from literature related to Hedonic Treadmill. The analysis involves collecting relevant verses, tracing the asbabun nuzul (context of revelation), and interpreting these verses within the framework of Islamic teachings that emphasize a balance between worldly and spiritual matters, according to Zuhaili's perspective. The findings indicate that, in his view,  the Qur'an critiques the tendency towards excessive materialism and encourages individuals to achieve true happiness through obedience to Allah, strengthening spirituality, and a adopting simple lifestyle.
