Abstract

This research addresses the growing mental health challenges faced by Generation Z, largely due to social pressures, technology dependency, and information overload. These issues necessitate relevant solutions, one of which may be found through a religious perspective. The aim of this study is to explore the role of Tafsir Maqashid, which emphasizes the core objectives of religion, such as preserving intellect (hifz al-'aql) and soul (hifz an-nafs), in providing solutions for mental health problems. The research employs a qualitative interpretative methodology, utilizing a literature review. The findings suggest that a deep religious understanding through Tafsir Maqashid offers a valuable and contextual spiritual framework for Generation Z to address their mental health challenges. This study contributes a new perspective on how religious understanding can be adapted to modern issues, particularly in supporting the mental well-being of Generation Z. The novelty of this research lies in applying Tafsir Maqashid as a relevant and contemporary approach to mental health care for Generation Z.

Abstract

Environmental degradation represents a significant challenge that affects the ecological, social, and spiritual aspects of humanity. This study focuses on how maqasidi tafsir can be employed to understand and address environmental issues, by analysing Tafsir Al-Munir by Wahbah al-Zuhaili and Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka. Both tafsirs emphasise human responsibility towards nature as a trust from Allah, albeit with different approaches. Tafsir Al-Munir places greater emphasis on the application of Islamic law in environmental management, whereas Tafsir Al-Azhar highlights ethical, spiritual aspects and the harmony of nature. The main finding of this study demonstrates that maqasidi tafsir offers a comprehensive perspective by integrating legal, moral, and spiritual dimensions in environmental preservation. This comparative tafsir study contributes to contemporary environmental ethics by illustrating how the principles of Islamic law can provide solutions to modern ecological challenges, linking legal frameworks with moral values to maintain environmental balance and sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to re-evaluate the offer of maqāṣidī interpretation in resolving the ecological crisis caused by the anthropocentric paradigm. This study uses a qualitative method to analyze the philosophy and interpretation products of maqāṣidī tafsir through primary sources such as the works of figures who first formulated maqāṣid of the Qur'an as the philosophy of maqāṣidī tafsir and applied it in interpretation products; among them are Rashid Rida and Ṭāhir Ibn 'Āshūr. Based on this evidence, the findings reveal that there is inconsistency in maqāṣidī interpretation in mediating the contestation between theocentric and anthropocentric paradigms, therefore, it can be said that maqāṣidī interpretation is more adapted to the modern context and its needs without a clear frame of reference, rather than referring to God's purpose, although the word maqāṣid is synonymous with God's purpose. As a result, maqāṣidī interpretation does not place meaning in the midst of the contestation of the two paradigms but prefers one of them accordingly fit to the context.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of zakat in the Qur'an as an instrument of wealth redistribution and social welfare programs, and explore its role in reducing social inequality and poverty in Islamic society. This type of research is a qualitative approach with literature research. Data collection is carried out through literature review of various Qur'anic verses consisting of related zakat issues. The research results show that zakat plays an important role in maintaining economic balance by channeling wealth from the wealthy to the needy. In addition, zakat in the Qur'an serves as a comprehensive solution for poverty alleviation, while strengthening social solidarity, and creating a more inclusive and prosperous society.  In terms of social welfare motivation, it is mentioned in several verses, such as supporting the collective welfare of Al-Hasyr verse 7, empowering vulnerable groups Ad-Dhuha verses 9-10, promising good rewards in the hereafter for those who care about the welfare of others Al-Baqarah verse 261, and Adz-Zariyat verse 19. Thus, the concept of zakat in the Qur'an is not only a religious obligation, but also a comprehensive framework for upholding social justice, reducing inequality, and promoting inclusive economic welfare.

Abstract

The shift in Western scholarship on Quranic studies through an intertextual approach marks a significant development in appreciating the Quran as an independent text, not merely based on the borrowing theory proposed by earlier Western scholars. This study explores how contemporary Western scholars use intertextual approaches, including Brannon Wheeler, A.H. Johns, Angelika Neuwirth, and Sidney Griffith. Specifically, it focuses on their analysis of Qur`anic narratives. This study adopts a qualitative approach. It bridges theoretical insights with practical analysis by reviewing key literature from Western scholars, focusing on Quranic narratives and their intertextual connections. The main findings of this study reveal that these scholars reject the simplistic borrowing theory and emphasize the Quran's re-conceptualization and reinterpretation of previous traditions. Their works illustrate how intertextuality deepens the understanding of the Quran as a dynamic text engaged in a broader religious dialogue.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology has made social issues increasingly complex. Mental disorder, commonly referred to as "mental health," has become one of the growing issues today. Therefore, the author examines the causes of mental illnesses and their solutions among teenagers, referring to the story of Aṣḥāb al-Kahf in Surah Al-Kahf. This study employs a thematic analysis approach to explore issues surrounding adolescents and mental health. The research methodology includes a literature review, collecting and examining various studies relevant to the topic. Subsequently, the collected data is analysed and integrated with diverse interpretive perspectives, drawing from both traditional and modern interpretive sources. This research focuses on verse 13 and emphasises the words "fityatun" (youth), "āmanū" (they believed), and "hudan" (guidance). The author concludes that the components and instruments found in the story of Aṣḥāb al-Kahf can be drawn upon to unravel the issues and solutions to mental health among teenagers. This is based on the age segmentation and background of the story. The purification of faith becomes a central point in resolving these issues.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe three major features of the Quranic Translation in Dayak Kanayatn language. Type of this study is a library research because it examines and analyzes printed literature, specifically the translation of the Qur'an. The method used is descriptive-analytical. The conclusion of this study explains that: First, the history of writing the Quranic Translation in Dayak Kanayatn language began in 2012 with three Quranic scholars from IAIN Pontianak and several other members as local language proofreaders. This translation is complete with 30 Juz, 1173 pages, and has been printed in 2,000 copies and sent to several ASEAN and European countries. Second, the translation systematics use a regular translation model, but with added footnotes, especially to explain terms or verses that require additional clarification. Third, the significance of this translation is quite good, especially for the community or individuals who understand the Dayak Kanayatn language.

Abstract

Islamophobia is a worldwide issue that impacts Muslims, particularly in countries where they are a minority. Therefore, it is crucial to prevent or reduce various forms of Islamophobia. This research aims to re-establish the loving essence of Islam to foster a genuine affection for the faith. This, in turn, will promote peace amidst diversity, rather than the proliferation of Islamophobia or other types of religious intolerance. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with conceptual thematic technique. It involves examining Qur’anic verses that specifically mention the contestation of Islamophobia, furthermore, analyzing them to determine how to prevent it. By portraying the face of Islam, using the frame of rahmatan lil 'alamîn, which is in accordance with the Islamic identity, the research findings indicate that the fear of non-Muslims can be eradicated. Islamic precepts of tolerance for religious diversity, treating everyone with kindness and justice, and presenting Islam as a religion of rahmatan lil 'alamin are all things that must be demonstrated. This research underscores that the Qur'an does not promote religious phobia; rather, its teachings are rich in universal values that resonate across different contexts and eras.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the urgency to reconstruct the understanding of Islamic ethics (akhlaq) based on the Qur'an, and to respond to the challenges of psychological crises through a spiritual approach. The aim of this research is to explore the concept of akhlaq in the Qur'an in depth and to explain its influence on mental health. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods, analyzing primary sources such as the Qur'an and classical and contemporary Tafsir, alongside secondary literature including scientific articles and previous studies. The findings reveal that Islamic akhlaq is not merely an ethical framework, but also serves as a protective mechanism that fosters psychological resilience. Individuals who embody virtuous character tend to experience greater emotional balance and mental stability, while those who exhibit immoral behavior are more susceptible to psychological distress. The novelty of this article lies in its integrative approach, bridging Qur'anic moral concepts with contemporary psychology. Here, akhlaq is positioned not only as an indicator of a healthy soul but also as an active instrument for building and restoring mental health. Consequently, these findings enrich theoretical discourse and offer practical contributions to the development of moral education and mental health policy grounded in spiritual values.
