Abstract

Many teenagers experience pain during menstruation. The selection of traditional methods such as acupressure is able to reduce dysmenorrhea pain that is carried out at several acupuncture points. To overcome the problem of dysmenorrhea pain, acupressure massage therapy is carried out at SP6 and LI 4 points, which at this point can stimulate the production of endorphin hormones. Related to the production of prostaglandins in the luteal phase, acupressure is expected to be able to improve blood circulation, so that prostaglandins flow in the blood circulation and do not accumulate in the uterus and can finally reduce pain during menstruation. The purpose of this study is to find out the difference in dysmenorrhea pain before and after acupressure massage therapy at SP6 and LI 4 points. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest – posttest design. The sample of this study is adolescent girls at STIKES Abdurahman Palembang as many as 20 respondents using purposive sampling The average reduction in pretest dysmenorrhea pain in the intervention group was 6.65. The mean value of the reduction in dysmenorrhea pain in the posttest of the intervention group decreased to 2.70. The results of the analysis is <0.05 (0.001), the results were significant, this proves that there is an effectiveness of acupresure at SP6 and LI 4 points against dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months has been proven to be important for maternal and infant health. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia is still low. Data shows that coverage in Indonesia is only 65.8% below the target of 80%. One of the main causes is the lack of knowledge of mothers about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. For this reason, education that is easy to access and understand, such as leaflets, is needed. Leaflets are considered effective because they are practical, can be reread at any time, and are very helpful for mothers in areas with limited digital technology. This study aims to determine the effect of counseling using leaflets on increasing maternal knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. The research design used was a quasi-experimental with a one group pre-post test approach. A total of 31 mothers who had babies aged 0–24 months were involved as respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. This technique was used because researchers needed subjects who specifically met the inclusion criteria, namely having babies in that age range, being present during the activity, and being willing to take part in the entire series of studies. This study has obtained ethical approval from the relevant institutions. The research instrument was a questionnaire that had been validated and proven to be reliable. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant increase in knowledge from 51.61% to 93.33% (p < 0.000), indicating that the leaflet is effective as an educational medium. Although this study is limited to the number of respondents and location, the results provide an illustration that leaflets if well designed and delivered by health workers can be a powerful communication tool in supporting exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Medication errors pose a critical challenge in healthcare systems, often resulting in preventable harm and compromised patient safety. These errors can occur at various stages of medication management, from prescribing to administration. The adoption of electronic-based systems, including Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA), and Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs), has emerged as a transformative strategy to mitigate these risks. This article discusses the roles and benefits of these systems in reducing medication errors by enhancing process accuracy, enabling real-time verification, and supporting clinical decision-making. Although implementation challenges such as cost, staff resistance, and alert fatigue persist, the integration of electronic systems is essential for fostering a safer and more efficient medication delivery environment. Further advancements in artificial intelligence and system interoperability are expected to strengthen these technological interventions in the future.

Abstract

Hypertensive kidney disease represents a growing public health concern, particularly in urban populations with high hypertension prevalence. Despite its preventable nature, limited awareness about this complication persists, contributing to delayed diagnosis and poor outcomes. This study aimed to assess knowledge levels about hypertensive kidney disease among adults in urban areas and identify associated demographic and health factors. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 95 participants aged 20-65 years, selected through convenience sampling. Knowledge was assessed using a structured questionnaire and categorized into good (≥70% correct answers), moderate (50-69%), and poor (<50%) levels. Data analysis examined associations between knowledge levels and demographic characteristics. The study revealed concerning knowledge gaps: only 32.6% of participants demonstrated good knowledge, while 45.3% had moderate understanding, and 22.1% showed poor knowledge. Significant associations were found between knowledge levels and education (p<0.01), hypertension history (p<0.05), and age (p<0.05). Participants with higher education and personal/family history of hypertension showed better knowledge. Younger adults (20-39 years) had significantly poorer understanding compared to older age groups. Substantial knowledge deficiencies exist regarding hypertensive kidney disease, particularly among younger individuals and those with lower education. These gaps highlight the urgent need for targeted educational interventions.

Abstract

Stroke survivors often experience significant impairments in physical, psychological, and social functioning, leading to reduced quality of life (QoL). Exercise has emerged as a promising intervention to enhance recovery, yet its comprehensive effects on QoL remain underexplored. This literature review aims to examine the impact of exercise on QoL in stroke survivors by analyzing its benefits across multiple domains, identifying optimal intervention strategies, and addressing implementation barriers. A systematic search of peer-reviewed studies from 2014–2024 was conducted across major databases, focusing on exercise interventions and their outcomes in stroke rehabilitation. Findings demonstrate that structured exercise programs, including aerobic, resistance, and task-specific training, significantly improve motor function, psychological well-being, and social participation. Caregiver involvement and empowerment-based approaches further enhance adherence and long-term outcomes. However, barriers such as accessibility, motivation, and financial constraints limit widespread implementation. The review concludes that exercise is a vital component of stroke rehabilitation, with multidisciplinary, personalized approaches yielding the best results. Future research should focus on standardized protocols, technology-assisted solutions, and policy changes to improve accessibility and sustainability of exercise-based interventions for stroke survivors.

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia remains below the national target. Low breast milk production in postpartum mothers is one contributing factor. Lactation and oxytocin massage are known to stimulate prolactin and oxytocin hormones to enhance milk production. Objective of this study to determine the effect of a combination of lactation massage and oxytocin massage on breast milk production in postpartum mothers more than two hours after delivery. This quasi-experimental study used a post-test only control group design involving 44 postpartum mothers divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention was performed for three consecutive days. Data were collected using a checklist and observation table. The Mann-Whitney test was used to analyze differences in lactation onset and milk flow. Most mothers in the intervention group experienced a faster lactation onset (95.4%) and smooth milk flow (90.9%), compared to the control group with only 22.7% experiencing fast onset and smooth flow. A significant difference was found between the two groups in both lactation onset (p = 0.015) and milk flow (p = 0.024). The combination of lactation massage and oxytocin massage effectively improves breast milk production in postpartum mothers. This intervention can be adopted as a promotive strategy to support national exclusive breastfeeding targets. Health workers are encouraged to undergo lactation massage training and educate families to implement oxytocin massage at home. Further studies with larger samples are recommended.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a collection of symptoms or conditions related to muscle tissue, cartilage, tendons, the nervous system, ligaments, bone structure, and blood vessels. MSDs can cause pain, soreness, numbness, swelling, stiffness, and disrupt sleep quality. A preliminary study conducted by the author using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) method on employees of the Ogan Komering Ulu Timur District Health Office showed that 51.2% of employees experienced mild ergonomic risks and 48.8% experienced moderate ergonomic risks. This study aims to analyze the incidence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) in employees at the Ogan Komering Ulu Timur District Health Office in 2025. The design of this study is quantitative with a cross-sectional approach. The sample in this study was the total population, namely all employees at the Health Office of Ogan Komering Ulu Timur Regency totaling 86 respondents. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test, and multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression tests with prediction methods. In this study, of the 86 respondents who were at risk and not at risk of MSDs, the proportions were not much different, namely 42 respondents (48.8%) were at risk of MSDs, and 44 respondents (51.2%) were not at risk of MSDs. Bivariate analysis showed that there were 4 variables related to the incidence of MSDs, namely age (p value 0.000), BMI (p value 0.016), length of service (p value 0.000), and work posture (p value 0.000). The dominant factor related to the incidence of MSDs was work posture (p value 0.014; OR 0.197. It is recommended to carry out administrative controls and prepare standard operating procedures in accordance with ergonomic principles that focus on work posture, optimize work station facilities, maintain a balanced nutritional diet, and exercise regularly.

Abstract

Early childhood development is significantly influenced by nutrition and environmental factors. Exclusive breastfeeding has been associated with various health and developmental outcomes, including motor skill development. However, existing evidence on this relationship remains scattered and inconclusive. This scoping review aimed to systematically map the available evidence on the association between exclusive breastfeeding and motor skill development in children under five years of age. The review followed the PRISMA-ScR guidelines and utilized the Arksey and O’Malley framework, enhanced by Levac and colleagues. Inclusion criteria consisted of peer-reviewed articles published between January 2013 and December 2023, involving children aged 0–59 months, examining exclusive breastfeeding as the exposure, and assessing motor development as the outcome. Both observational and experimental studies were included. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect using predefined strategies and relevant MeSH terms. Data were extracted using a standardized charting form covering study characteristics, population, methods, key findings, and outcome measures. Two reviewers independently extracted data, and a third reviewer cross-validated for accuracy. A total of 21 studies met the inclusion criteria. Thematic analysis revealed three main patterns: (1) a positive association between the duration of exclusive breastfeeding and gross motor development; (2) inconsistent findings regarding fine motor skills; and (3) contextual factors such as socioeconomic status and maternal education moderated the relationship. In conclusion, while evidence suggests a potential link between exclusive breastfeeding and motor development, causality cannot be inferred due to the predominance of observational studies. Further longitudinal and interventional research is warranted. These findings highlight the broader developmental relevance of promoting exclusive breastfeeding.
