Abstract

Background: Conventional radiography remains the primary radiological procedure for suspected foreign bodies in soft tissues due to its wide availability, ease of use, and affordable, accounting for 75% of imaging examinations. In pelvic cases, the standard Anteroposterior (AP) projection alone is often insufficient for evaluating the depth of foreign body: therefore, a lateral projection is essential to provide comprehensive spatial information. objective: the study aims to describe the management of pelvic radiographic examinations using AP and lateral projections in a case of a foreign body caused by a nail gun and to assess the effectiveness of these projections in detecting radiopaque images and determining their depth. Methods: A clinical-technical case study using a descriptive observational was conducted on a 23-year-old male patient with a clinical diagnosis of a foreign body in the gluteal region. Data were collected on November 6, 2024 through direct observation of the procedure, documentation of examination techniques, radiographic results, and radiologist interpretation. Results: The AP projection successfully identified a radio-opaque shadow in the shape of a nail in the pelvic region without evidence of bone fracture. The lateral projection provided a precise depth measurement of 1.6 cm from the marker, showing a coccygeal shift of <25% of the foreign body's diameter and associated soft tissue thickening. Conclusion: The combination of AP and lateral projections is effective for visualizing radiopaque objects like nails in the gluteal region, where the lateral view is crucial for depth localization. Recommendations: Future research should conduct comparative studies on other modalities, such as Ultrasonography (USG) for radiolucent objects or 3D CT-Scan

Abstract

Stroke is one of the leading causes of disability and mortality worldwide. In Indonesia, stroke contributes to 11.2% of disability cases and 18.5% of national mortality, with a prevalence of 8.3 per 1,000 population. This condition requires continuous care, including the role of family members in performing Range Of Motion (ROM) exercises. Educational videos as audiovisual media are considered effective in improving family understanding and skills. This study aimed to determine the effect of ROM educational videos on improving the knowledge and abilities of families in caring for stroke patients at Advent Hospital, Bandar Lampung City, in 2026. This quantitative study used a One Group Pretest–Posttest design using purposive sampling with a sample of 29 families of stroke patients. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and an ability observation checklist before and after the educational video intervention, and were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results showed an improvement in family knowledge and abilities after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant effect. It was concluded that ROM educational videos are effective in improving family knowledge and abilities and can be used as a practical and easily understood health education medium. Practically, video-based education can be integrated into hospital discharge education programs to support families in continuing stroke patient care at home.

Abstract

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a nosocomial infection that manifests in patients following mechanical ventilation for ≥ 48 hours. This incidence significantly contributes to the escalation of morbidity, mortality, prolonged length of stay, and the financial burden of care. The implementation of the VAP Bundle as an evidence-based practice is projected to reduce VAP prevalence while optimizing the duration of ventilator use. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the implementation of the VAP Bundle and the incidence of VAP, as well as the duration of mechanical ventilation among patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang. This study employed a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 44 respondents were selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using VAP Bundle implementation observation sheets, medical records, and the Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score (CPIS). Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square statistical test. The findings indicated a significant relationship between the implementation of the VAP Bundle and the incidence of VAP, as well as a relationship between the VAP Bundle implementation and the duration of ventilator use. Adherence to VAP Bundle implementation according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) contributed to a decrease in VAP incidence and a tendency toward a ventilator duration of ≤4 days. Compliance with the VAP Bundle protocol plays a crucial role in preventing VAP and enhancing the efficiency of ventilator use. This study recommends increasing nursing compliance with VAP Bundle standards to improve the quality of critical care nursing services.

Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) remains a major health problem among children and is associated not only with respiratory symptoms such as cough and rhinorrhea but also with impaired sleep quality due to nocturnal discomfort and breathing disturbances. Non pharmacological interventions, including the consumption of ginger and steamed pear (Japirkus), have been proposed as complementary therapies owing to their anti-inflammatory and natural expectorant properties. This study aimed to examine the effect of ginger and steamed pear consumption on sleep quality among children with mild ARI. This study employed a quantitative with quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test with control group approach. The research sample consisted of 26 respondents (children aged 4-10 years) selected using a purposive sampling technique. Sleep quality was measured using the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) instrument. The results showed that the mean sleep quality score in the intervention group decreased significantly from 71.46 (poor sleep quality) before the intervention to 48.69 after the intervention. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between the intervention and control groups (p = 0,008). These findings indicate that ginger and steamed pear consumption significantly improves sleep quality in children with mild ARI. Therefore, this non-pharmacological intervention may serve as an alternative approach for parents and healthcare education programs addressing environmental risk factors for ARI

Abstract

Patients with chronic heart failure often experience various worsening symptoms that are not well-identified in healthcare services, including sleep quality. Decreased quality of life is triggered by physical limitations, Fatigue, and psychological conditions such as stress and anxiety. As a primary indicator of morbidity, poor quality of life significantly increases the risk of disease progression, rehospitalization, and mortality. Therefore, monitoring quality of life is crucial as an early indicator in maintaining the survival of heart failure patients. This study aims to analyze the relationship between stress, sleep quality, and Fatigue with the quality of life of heart failure patients at the Cardiac Outpatient Clinic of RSUD Jend Ahmad Yani Metro. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving 218 heart failure patients selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires, and bivariate analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The majority of respondents (53.7%) had a low quality of life. Furthermore, 54.1% of patients reported poor sleep quality, and 55.5% experienced Fatigue. Statistical test results showed a significant relationship between stress (p=0.001), sleep quality (p=0.001), and Fatigue (p=0.001) with the quality of life in heart failure patients. These findings emphasize the importance for healthcare professionals, especially cardiovascular nurses, to not only focus on physiological medical parameters but also conduct routine screenings for sleep quality, Fatigue levels, and psychological status. Comprehensive nursing interventions—such as sleep management and stress coping strategy education—are essential to prevent a decline in quality of life, which ultimately reduces rehospitalization rates and increases the life expectancy of heart failure patients.

Abstract

Background: Diabetic neuropathy and poor glycemic control remain major complications among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), contributing to decreased foot sensitivity and increased risk of diabetic foot ulcers. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as diabetic foot exercises, are considered effective strategies to improve peripheral circulation and glycemic control. However, evidence regarding their effectiveness in primary health care settings remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of diabetic foot exercise on foot sensitivity and blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A quantitative quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at Wangkal Community Health Center. The population consisted of 54 patients with T2DM, and 29 respondents were selected using total sampling based on inclusion criteria. Data on foot sensitivity were measured using a monofilament test, while blood glucose levels were assessed using a glucometer. Respondents participated in a structured diabetic foot exercise program for three consecutive days. Data were analyzed using the Paired t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The findings showed a significant improvement in foot sensitivity after the intervention, with the mean score increasing from 10.52 to 14.72. In addition, the average blood glucose level decreased from 233.38 mg/dL to 195.03 mg/dL after the intervention. Statistical analysis indicated that diabetic foot exercise had a significant effect on improving foot sensitivity and reducing blood glucose levels (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Diabetic foot exercise is an effective non-pharmacological intervention to improve foot sensitivity and reduce blood glucose levels among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The implementation of regular diabetic foot exercise is recommended as part of nursing interventions and community-based diabetes management in primary health care settings

Abstract

Reproductive health literacy is an individual's ability to access, understand, assess, and apply information regarding reproductive functions and processes, which is expected to influence adolescent sexual behavior. This study aimed to determine the relationship between reproductive health literacy and the sexual behavior of middle adolescents. A quantitative research design with a correlational approach was employed, involving 137 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using validated and reliable Likert-scale questionnaires for reproductive health literacy and sexual behavior. Data analysis was performed using the Fisher’s Exact Test. The results indicated that the majority of respondents possessed good reproductive health literacy (85.4%), while only a small percentage reported engaging in sexual behavior (1.5%). Statistical analysis yielded a p-value of 0.272 (p > 0.05). In conclusion, there is no significant relationship between reproductive health literacy and the sexual behavior of middle adolescents at SMA N 1 Cimalaka. Efforts to prevent risky sexual behavior include strengthening family roles, providing counseling, fostering positive social environments, monitoring media use, and encouraging participation in organized activities, sports, arts, and religious programs. Limitations of this study include a design that cannot establish causality and an imbalanced data distribution that may influence the analysis.
