Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart failure, remain a leading cause of mortality in Indonesia, affecting an estimated 2.78 million individuals. This study aims to develop a heart failure risk prediction model using the XGBoost algorithm and to evaluate its performance through a comparative validation approach across two datasets with distinct characteristics. The primary model was trained on a large-scale Indonesian population dataset (N = 158,355; 28 features) representing the complexity of real-world clinical data, while the UCI Heart Disease dataset (N = 918; 12 features) was used as a benchmark under more controlled conditions. Experimental results show that the Indonesian model achieved a testing accuracy of 73.50% with a very small training–testing performance gap of 0.53% and an AUC-ROC value of 0.814, indicating strong stability and generalization capability. In contrast, the model trained on the UCI dataset obtained a higher accuracy of 88.59% but exhibited moderate overfitting, reflected by a larger performance gap of 4.60%. Feature importance analysis consistently identified a history of heart disease, hypertension, and smoking behavior as the most influential predictors across both datasets. These findings highlight that model stability and generalization on real-world data are more critical than raw accuracy derived from small, idealized datasets when assessing the clinical deployment readiness of medical artificial intelligence systems in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of Pasang Ri Kajang into Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 9 of 2015 of Bulukumba Regency and its relevance to sustainable development within the Ammatoa Kajang Indigenous Community. Pasang Ri Kajang, as the philosophical foundation of the community, embodies ecological ethics, social norms, and moral values that regulate human interaction with nature. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving customary leaders, community members, and local government officials. The findings indicate that Perda No. 9/2015 functions as a formal instrument that institutionalizes the values of Pasang, particularly in protecting customary land rights, preserving cultural traditions, and managing customary forests through conservation principles. This integration produces a hybrid governance model that combines the moral legitimacy of customary norms with the legal certainty of state regulation. The implementation of the regulation contributes positively to ecological, social, and economic sustainability, although it still faces challenges such as modernization pressures, land-use conversion, and weak policy enforcement. Overall, the study highlights the crucial role of Pasang Ri Kajang in strengthening sustainable environmental governance at the local level.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major health problem among the elderly and is strongly associated with central obesity, which often increases due to physiological changes during aging. Waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) are recognized as practical anthropometric indicators for assessing central obesity and predicting cardiovascular risks, including elevated blood pressure. This study aimed to examine the relationship between waist circumference and waist-to-height ratio with systolic and diastolic blood pressure among elderly individuals in Cemani Village. This research employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 69 elderly respondents selected through consecutive sampling. Data on waist circumference, height, and blood pressure were obtained through direct measurements. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson or Spearman correlation tests based on normality results. The findings showed that most respondents had WC and WHtR values categorized as centrally obese. Waist circumference and WHtR were not significantly associated with systolic blood pressure (p = 0.794; p = 0.824), but both demonstrated significant associations with diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.002; p = 0.001). These results indicate that central obesity, reflected by WC and WHtR, may contribute more strongly to diastolic pressure elevation than to systolic changes. Therefore, routine monitoring of anthropometric indicators among the elderly is essential for early detection and prevention of hypertension.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a problem faced by various countries, especially ASEAN member countries. Microplastics are even more dangerous if they enter the food chain. Several studies have found microplastics in aquatic biota, which, if consumed by humans at certain levels, can harm health. In the ASEAN region, research related to microplastics is still limited despite the region having high levels of plastic pollution. This study seeks to investigate the interconnectedness of microplastic research in ASEAN through bibliometrics. Vosviewer was used for bibliometric studies to provide a comprehensive overview and identify future research directions based on past works in the Scopus database on microplastics. This study utilized 1,656 journal articles from the last five years, from 2019 to 2024, focusing on 10 ASEAN countries. The analysis results show that research is still dominated by studies of microplastic pollution and distribution in aquatic environments, with an emphasis on particle abundance. Although attention to aspects of toxicity, bioaccumulation, and human health implications is starting to increase, research integrating the physicochemical properties of microplastics with toxicological mechanisms and biological impacts is still limited. Furthermore, indicator organism-based biomonitoring approaches and comprehensive risk assessments have not been widely developed. Therefore, further research needs to focus on interdisciplinary approaches that link microplastic characteristics, adsorbed contaminants, and health impacts.

Abstract

In running a business, every company must provide good service to customers, because satisfactory service is very much needed to increase sales figures. However, building a sense of customer satisfaction is not that easy, it takes time to build it. Kaf Fragrance Shop, a shop engaged in the perfume sector, does not yet have a system to analyze customer testimonials effectively as a determining factor, so the store cannot identify customer needs. The purpose of creating this system, researchers want to evaluate customer satisfaction assessments by applying the FAM method or fuzzy associative memory to analyze how satisfied consumers are with the service provided by Kaf Fragrance. The FAM method was chosen because it can handle the uncertainty and ambiguity of data obtained from the questionnaire. The calculation is carried out from the questionnaire given which will later be calculated using the FAM method and the results will be classified using the defuzzification method which is carried out using the winner take all method or taking the largest value. The findings from the study are designed for assisting Kaf Fragrance elevating service quality and strengthening initiatives to improve customer satisfaction.

Abstract

Residential land-cover change is an important indicator of spatial transformation and regional development dynamics. This study analyzes changes in residential land cover in North Tapin District, Tapin Regency, during 2016–2024 using Sentinel-2 Level-2A imagery integrated with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). A supervised classification approach based on the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm with a Radial Basis Function kernel was applied to distinguish residential and non-residential areas. Several spectral indices were incorporated to improve class separability prior to classification. Accuracy assessment using a confusion matrix with 50 validation points indicates high reliability, with Overall Accuracy values of 98% (κ=0.91) in 2016 and 96% (κ=0.83) in 2024. Post-classification comparison reveals an increase of 181.85 ha in residential land over eight years, mainly resulting from the conversion of non-residential areas. Spatially, expansion patterns tend to follow major road corridors and highly accessible zones. These findings demonstrate that the integration of Sentinel-2 imagery and SVM provides an effective framework for multitemporal residential land-cover monitoring and supports evidence-based regional planning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a hybrid mobile application prototype called “Tanya Fiqih Haji dan Umrah” as a supportive consultation medium for Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) related to Hajj and Umrah. The application utilizes the Gemini 2.5 Flash model with a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) approach that is restricted to two official references issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely the Hajj Manasik Infographic Book 2025 and the Hajj Supplications and Dhikr Guide 2025. The system is implemented using a modern web-to-mobile hybrid architecture based on React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and Capacitor, enabling deployment as a lightweight Android application with local conversation history storage. System evaluation was conducted through expert validation on ten test questions representing the core themes of Hajj and Umrah fiqh. The results show that 70% of AI responses were categorized as fully aligned with the references, 10% as partially accurate, and 20% as not aligned. These findings indicate that the RAG mechanism helps maintain consistency between AI-generated answers and authoritative literature, potentially reducing hallucination in generative models, although expert clarification remains necessary in certain cases. This study contributes to the application of RAG-based large language models in the domain of Hajj fiqh and offers a technological support tool that may benefit pilgrims, particularly independent pilgrims.

Abstract

Andaliman (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) is an endemic spice from North Sumatra with significant therapeutic potential derived from its essential oils. Terpenoid compounds such as geranyl acetate, limonene, and citronellol in andaliman are recognized for their efficacy in aromatherapy to alleviate nausea and vomiting. This study aims to construct an aromatherapy roll-on formulation using andaliman fruit essential oil and to evaluate its physical characteristics and safety profile. The research employed a laboratory experimental method, utilizing the Stahl steam distillation technique for essential oil isolation. The preparations were formulated into three concentration variations: F0 (0%), F1 (5%), and F2 (10%). Evaluation parameters included organoleptic properties, homogeneity, viscosity, pH value, dermal irritation tests, and hedonic (preference) tests. The results demonstrated that all formulas maintained excellent physical stability and homogeneity. The pH values ranged from 5.52 to 6.06, which is considered safe as it aligns with the physiological pH of human skin (4.5–6.5). Irritation tests confirmed that the formulations did not trigger adverse skin reactions in respondents. According to the hedonic test, panelists showed high preference for aroma, texture, and comfort, although the scent longevity requires further optimization due to the volatile nature of the essential oil. Overall, the andaliman essential oil aromatherapy roll-on meets the physical quality and safety standards for topical preparations.

Abstract

Porang tuber (Amorphophallus muelleri) contains various bioactive compounds with potential antioxidant activity, while extraction efficiency is strongly influenced by the applied method. This study aimed to compare conventional and environmentally friendly extraction techniques, including maceration, Soxhlet extraction, Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE), and Ultrasonic-Assisted Extraction (UAE), using 70% ethanol as the solvent. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH radical scavenging assay and expressed as IC₅₀ values. The results showed that differences in extraction methods significantly affected antioxidant activity. Soxhlet extraction exhibited the highest antioxidant activity with the lowest IC₅₀ value (0.1788 µg/mL), followed by MAE (0.4312 µg/mL), maceration (0.6315 µg/mL), and UAE (0.6574 µg/mL). The superiority of the Soxhlet method is related to continuous solvent reflux and heat-assisted mass transfer, which enhance the release of antioxidant compounds. These findings confirm that porang tuber is a promising natural antioxidant source, with Soxhlet extraction identified as the most effective method under the applied experimental conditions for future development of functional food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications.

Abstract

Andaliman leaves (Zanthoxylum acanthopodium DC.) are a traditional plant native to North Sumatra with potential as a natural antioxidant source due to their phenolic and flavonoid compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant potential of the ethyl acetate extract of andaliman leaves based on total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method with ethyl acetate as the solvent. Total flavonoid content was determined using the AlCl₃ method with quercetin as the standard, while total phenolic content was analyzed using the Folin– Ciocalteu method with gallic acid as the standard. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH radical scavenging assay. The results showed that the ethyl acetate extract of andaliman leaves contained 73.40 mg QE/g extract of total flavonoids (7.3%) and 148.48 mg GAE/g extract of total phenolics. The antioxidant activity test yielded an IC₅₀ value of 4,2485 µg/mL, indicating that the extract exhibits very strong antioxidant activity. The high levels of phenolic and flavonoid compounds are believed to play an important role in the radical scavenging activity observed. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the ethyl acetate extract of andaliman leaves has strong potential to be developed as a natural antioxidant source for applications in the pharmaceutical and health fields.
