Abstract

This study examines the role of Instagram in promoting the Ruang Pulih program by Bicara Project. The research problem arises from the limited studies integrating the approaches of Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC), emotional branding, and Uses and Gratifications (U&G) in the promotion of psychology-based programs. This study aims to analyze Instagram promotional strategies in building audience awareness and engagement, as well as to identify the forms of audience engagement generated through the promotional content of the Ruang Pulih program. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, active participation, and literature review. Primary data were obtained through the researcher’s involvement in promotional activities at Bicara Project and interviews with informants, while secondary data were gathered from relevant references. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative data analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was enhanced through source triangulation. The results indicate that promotional activities were carried out systematically through reels and carousel formats distributed consistently on Instagram. Emotional and relatable reels content was found to generate higher audience engagement than informative carousel content, both in terms of interaction quantity and response quality. Audiences tended to provide more personal and reflective comments, demonstrating emotional connections to the issues presented in the content. These findings suggest that promotional success is influenced by emotional approaches, content formats, and the alignment of messages with audience needs and experiences.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the differences in media framing in reporting the landslide disaster in West Bandung Regency by the online media Mongabay and TvOneNews. These differences can be seen in the way the media select issues, emphasize facts, and construct social reality in disaster reporting. The media not only convey information, but also shape public perception through the use of language and the emphasis on certain aspects of the news. This study aims to analyze media framing in reporting the landslide disaster in West Bandung Regency by the online media Mongabay and TvOneNews. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis approach. The analysis technique is conducted through four framing elements, namely define problems, diagnose causes, make moral judgement, and treatment recommendation. The research data consist of news texts regarding the landslide disaster in Cisarua, West Bandung Regency, published by both media outlets between January and February 2026. The findings show that Mongabay frames the landslide as a structural issue related to environmental damage, land-use change, weak spatial planning, and inadequate government supervision. Meanwhile, TvOneNews emphasizes the personalization of leadership through the representation of Dedi Mulyadi as an empathetic, responsive, and community-oriented figure toward disaster victims. These framing differences indicate that the media play an important role in shaping public perceptions of disaster events.

Abstract

News media organizations face increasing pressure to adapt their content strategies to social media platforms; however, research examining how national news agencies produce short-form video content for film coverage remains limited. This study aims to analyze AntaraTV’s strategy in producing video content for coverage of new film events on social media. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach through active participation and interviews with three informants: the Head of AntaraTV’s social media division, an intern content creator, and a film journalist. Data analysis utilizes data triangulation. The findings indicate that AntaraTV implements a comprehensive strategy based on Attention Economy Theory and Uses and Gratification Theory, focusing on short-form content lasting 30–60 seconds, publication timing aligned with film embargoes, and multi-platform distribution via Sprout Social on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and SnackVideo. Key challenges include balancing subjectivity and objectivity in film reviews, tight deadlines, and technical constraints such as inconsistent audio quality and volume. This strategy has proven effective in promoting films and providing comprehensive information, although AntaraTV’s content tends to be more formal and lacks the emotional appeal found in independent media or reviews

Abstract

This study is based on the problem that the representation of the Trinity Test in the film Oppenheimer (2023) not only reconstructs historical events but also constructs a discourse of collective fear toward global nuclear threats, which has not been extensively examined in film studies, particularly in relation to dynamic and historical scenes involving geopolitical and humanitarian trauma. This study aims to analyze the construction of collective fear discourse in the Trinity Test scene of the film Oppenheimer (2023). This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using Gillian Rose’s visual discourse analysis method, which consists of three sites of analysis: the site of the image, the site of production, and the site of the audience. The data were collected through visual documentation, intensive observation, dialogue transcription, and coding of visual and audio elements in the Trinity Test scene. The data were analyzed interpretatively based on visual elements, cinematic strategies, and audience reception. The findings show that collective fear in the film Oppenheimer (2023) emerges as a shared anxiety regarding the potential for global destruction caused by the destructive power of nuclear technology. This fear is not only represented as the individual emotions of scientists but also as a form of humanitarian trauma reflecting the relationship between science, state power, and the threat of nuclear warfare that may endanger human civilization.

Abstract

Ownership of an Electronic Identity Card (Kartu Tanda Penduduk Elektronik or KTPel) is a legal obligation for Indonesian citizens upon reaching the age of 17, as mandated by national legislation. In this study, 17-year-old citizens are represented by senior high school students who serve as the research participants. Although various service facilities are available, high school student participation remains low due to communication problems. This study aims to examine the communication experiences of 17-year-old students in accessing beginner KTPel enrollment services in Solok Regency. The research employed a qualitative method using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five students aged 17 years who had participated in beginner KTPel enrollment services. The data were analyzed using the IPA method with the assistance of NVivo software. The research results reveal students' communication experiences through four main themes.: (1) social communication shapes students’ awareness and perceptions of KTPel; (2) the characteristics of service communication influence students’ comfort and trust in public services; (3) psychological and situational barriers generate hesitation among students in accessing KTPel services; and (4) KTPel is interpreted as a symbol of legal identity, adulthood, and social recognition.

Abstract

Muslim Chinese in Indonesia are placed in a liminal space between two sets of identity systems which have been historically antagonistic to each other: Chinese ethnicity and Islam. The visible emergence of the community in the public sphere has attracted more and more attention, however, the representation of their hybrid identity in the Indonesian online media has yet to be critically analyzed, especially in the field of discourse analysis. The current literature tends to tackle this issue from the sociological or ethnic literature, failing to offer much analysis of the representation of this community in the mainstream online media discourse. The study aims to analyze the representation of the hybrid identity of the Muslim Chinese community within the negotiation between ethnicity and religiosity aspects of the Muslim Chinese community through language used and news framing; discourse productions in cross-media with different ideological aspects; and the power relations behind the productions of the discourse of the Muslim Chinese community. This study is conducted through the qualitative approach using the Fairclough's Three-Dimensional Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) Model (textual dimension, discourse practice dimension, and social practice dimension) and the article text data taken from six websites, including newspapers, magazines, and blogs belonging to three different ideological levels from 2020 until 2026, totaling 15 articles. The five recurring discursive patterns that emerged were: hybridity is presented as an instrumental function; community identity is wholly religious; there are no conflicting or ambiguous representations of identity; organisational elites and state officials' voices are in control; and hybridity is enacted in the material, with artworks and physical spaces. The uniformity of these patterns suggests the domestication of Bhabha's ‘Third Space', where ambivalence of identity is refuted as a symbol of harmony 'consumeable' by the general public, thus, signifying a systematic discursive construction (not neutral) in the representation of this dual minority community.

Abstract

Research on digital tourism communication remains dominated by discussions of social media, mobile applications, and online promotion, while the role of religious tourism websites in fulfilling users' informational, emotional, identity, social, tension-release, and spiritual needs has not been comprehensively explained. This limitation makes it difficult for destination managers to design websites that are not only informative but also capable of conveying religious meaning and experience. This study aims to analyze the functions of digital media in religious tourism websites through the Uses and Gratifications (U&G) perspective and to formulate an audience-gratification-oriented conceptual website model. The study employs a qualitative descriptive literature review of 16 scholarly sources published between 2007 and 2025, comprising journal articles and academic publications on digital tourism communication, religious tourism, website interactivity, user experience, and U&G theory. The data were analyzed through bibliographic classification, data extraction, content analysis, thematic coding, mapping onto cognitive, affective, personal identity, social integration, tension release, and spiritual dimensions, followed by theoretical interpretation and conceptual synthesis. The findings show that religious tourism websites function as information and educational hubs, promotional media, spaces for digital engagement, reinforcers of religious identity, and mediators of spiritual experience. The synthesis produces a model linking user motives, content, multimedia, navigation, and interactivity with audience gratifications, religious experience, satisfaction, engagement, and visit intention. Spiritual gratification emerges as a contextual extension of U&G theory in religious tourism communication

Abstract

The development of the Capital City of Nusantara carries the narrative of "New Indonesia" that needs to be communicated visually to the public. The "Pohon Hayat Nusantara" logo was established as the main visual identity, but the symbolic meaning contained within it has not been studied in depth from the perspective of visual communication. The purpose of this study is to determine how the representation of "New Indonesia" is constructed visually through the Pohon Hayat Nusantara logo. This study uses a constructivist paradigm with qualitative methods. The data analysis technique uses Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics focusing on the three triadic elements: representamen, object, and interpretant. Data collection techniques were carried out through literature studies and documentation of the Visual Identity Guidelines of IKN Number 54 of 2023.The results show that the 5 roots in the logo represent Pancasila as the foundation of the state, 7 trunks represent the diversity of the 7 major regions of Indonesia, and 17 petals represent the spirit of independence on August 17, 1945. The use of brown represents harmony with the nature of Kalimantan, black represents sovereignty, and white represents a clean vision. The "IKN Sutasoma" typography represents the relationship between the cultural heritage of Nusantara and the face of modern government. Overall, the Pohon Hayat Nusantara logo functions as a state communication tool that constructs the meanings of sustainability, unity, and the aspiration of "New Indonesia" that is inclusive and future-oriented.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that some early childhood students at TK Ar-Rahman, Tanjung Karang Barat District, Bandar Lampung City, still experienced difficulties in understanding learning messages, requiring teachers to repeat instructions during the learning process. This study aimed to describe teachers' communication strategies in delivering learning messages to early childhood students. The research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation involving one principal and five teachers as informants. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that teachers implemented communication strategies by understanding students' characteristics, organizing messages using simple language, applying various teaching methods such as storytelling, games, singing, demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions, and utilizing attractive learning media. Based on David K. Berlo's SMCR communication model, the communication process fulfilled the elements of source, message, channel, and receiver, enabling students to understand learning messages through attention, responses, the ability to follow instructions, and active participation in classroom activities. Therefore, teachers' communication strategies play an important role in creating an effective learning process.

Abstract

Maintaining a strong identity is essential for a brand like Adidas to ensure consistency in its marketing communication strategy, especially on social media. Through its Instagram account, @adidasrunning, Adidas aims to uphold its identity by creating meaning through narratives and visual representations featured in its marketing campaigns. One of the campaigns is titled "History in Time." This study aims to analyze the representations used by Adidas in the Instagram post from @adidasrunning called "History in Time" and to uncover the meanings constructed within it. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method using a semiotic approach. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and a literature review. The analysis is based on Roland Barthes' semiotic framework, which highlights three levels of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings reveal that athletes’ achievements are represented through images of victory, emotional expressions, and the integration of Adidas products, generating meanings associated with hard work, dedication, and accomplishment. At the mythological level, athletes are constructed as symbols of innovation, high performance, and history-making achievement. Consequently, athletic success is portrayed not only as an individual accomplishment but also as a representation of Adidas’ brand identity. These findings demonstrate that Instagram serves as an effective visual communication medium for strengthening brand image through the representation of athletic achievement.
