Abstract

This study arises from the phenomenon of the uang panai tradition among the Bugis community, which is seen on one hand as a symbol of siri’ (family honor) for the bride’s family, yet on the other hand imposes an economic burden on the groom’s side. The study aims to analyze the practice of uang panai from a debt-accounting perspective, using the frameworks of PSAK 1 (2023) and PSAK 50 (2014). The research employed a qualitative approach with an ethnographic design, using participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña (2018). The findings indicate that the groom’s side perceives uang panai as a liability to be fulfilled, while the bride’s side sees it as a receivable and a symbol of family honor. The practice reflects the recording and recognition of obligations and claims akin to formal accounting, albeit within a cultural context. The study also identifies the risk of default, which may result in delayed or canceled marriages, or even silariang (elopement). Thus, the uang panai tradition can be understood as a form of cultural accounting practice that bridges symbolic values with the economic realities of the Bugis community.

Abstract

The rapid growth of modern retail is driven by changing consumer behavior, which is no longer solely focused on functional needs but also on emotional satisfaction through enjoyable shopping experiences. This study aims to analyze the influence of servicescape dimensions, including ambient conditions, spatial layout and functionality, as well as signs, symbols, and artifacts, on consumers’ hedonic purchase intention at Chandra Department Store, Boemi Kedaton Mall, Bandar Lampung. This research employs a quantitative approach with a survey method. A total of 180 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS 26. The results reveal that all three dimensions of servicescape have a positive and significant effect on hedonic purchase intention, both partially and simultaneously. These findings emphasize that the physical store environment plays a crucial role in encouraging consumers to engage in shopping driven by pleasure motives.

Abstract

in this study stems from the low level of understanding and participation of Generation Z towards Islamic banking products, despite their enormous potential as future customers. Many young people still consider Islamic banking products to be not much different from conventional banks, and some do not even understand basic principles such as the prohibition of usury, fairness, and profit-sharing systems. The low level of Islamic financial literacy among Generation Z results in perceptions ranging from neutral attitudes to a lack of trust in the effectiveness of Islamic banking products in meeting modern financial needs. The purpose of this study is to understand in depth how Generation Z perceives Islamic banking products and the factors that influence these perceptions, such as religious values, financial knowledge, personal experience, and the influence of the social environment. This study uses a qualitative research type with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth interviews and observations of a number of informants from Generation Z in Bengkulu City. The data obtained were then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions to find emerging patterns of perception. The results showed that the majority of Generation Z had a positive perception of the basic principles of Islamic banking, but still had doubts about product innovation and the ease of digital services. Religiosity and Islamic financial literacy factors proved to be the main determinants in shaping Generation Z's positive perception of Islamic banking.

Abstract

Economic growth disparities between Western and Eastern Indonesia remain a major challenge in achieving equitable national development. Based on data from the Statistics Indonesia (BPS, 2024), Indonesia’s economic growth increased from –2.07 percent in 2020 to 3.69 percent in 2021, 5.31 percent in 2022, and remained stable at around 5.05 percent in 2023. Although this reflects a solid economic recovery, regional inequality remains evident. Western Indonesia, which includes Sumatra, Java, and parts of Kalimantan, contributes approximately 80 percent to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP), while Eastern Indonesia—comprising Sulawesi, Bali–Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua—accounts for only about 20 percent. This imbalance illustrates differences in investment distribution and labor capacity between the two regions. The study aims to analyze the influence of investment and labor on economic growth in both the western and eastern regions during the 2020–2024 period. The research employs a quantitative approach using annual panel data from all provinces in both regions, and applies the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) with robust standard errors to address potential violations of classical assumptions. The results indicate that in the western region, both investment and labor have a positive and significant effect on economic growth. In contrast, in the eastern region, only labor shows a significant influence, while investment does not have a statistically significant impact.

Abstract

Fossil-based electricity consumption in Indonesia has continued to rise in recent years, driven by accelerated economic growth, expansion of the industrial and commercial sectors, and increasing household income levels. This strong reliance on fossil energy has contributed to higher carbon emissions and heightened vulnerability to supply instability. Therefore, understanding the key determinants of electricity consumption is essential for supporting Indonesia’s national energy transition agenda toward a more sustainable energy system. This study aims to examine the influence of the industrial sector, commercial sector, and income level on fossil-based electricity consumption in Indonesia during the 2019–2023 period. The study employs panel data analysis using the Random Effect Model (REM). This model was selected through the Chow test, Hausman test, and Lagrange Multiplier test, all of which indicated that REM provides the most efficient estimation for accommodating variations across provinces and years. The data were obtained from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), PT PLN, and other relevant official publications. The results reveal that the industrial sector, commercial sector, and income level all exert a positive and significant effect on electricity consumption. Industrial and commercial activities represent the primary drivers of rising national electricity demand, while increases in per capita income contribute to greater household electricity use. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.7201) demonstrates that the model has strong explanatory power in describing interprovincial variations in fossil-based electricity consumption. These findings highlight Indonesia’s continued dependence on fossil energy, underscoring the need to accelerate renewable energy adoption and improve energy efficiencyas strategic steps to support the national energy transition.

Abstract

Income inequality is a crucial issue in regional economic development. This is because income inequality can affect social and economic stability and hinder sustainable economic growth. In Jombang Regency, income inequality remains a serious problem. This study aims to analyze the influence of education level, unemployment rate, and poverty rate on income inequality in Jombang Regency using a positivistic approach through quantitative methods. Secondary data were obtained from official BPS publications and regional macroeconomic indicators, while the analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression supported by classical assumption tests to ensure that the model meets BLUE criteria. The results show that the education level has a negative and significant effect on income inequality, indicating that higher levels of education lead to lower income disparities. Conversely, the unemployment rate and poverty rate have positive and significant effects, suggesting that increases in unemployment and poverty contribute to widening income inequality in the region. Simultaneously, all three variables are proven to significantly influence income inequality, as reflected by the coefficient of determination, which demonstrates the strong contribution of the independent variables in explaining variability in income disparity. This study is expected to provide both theoretical and practical contributions to the formulation of inclusive and equitable economic development policies.

Abstract

The surge in cooking oil prices in recent periods has caused distortions in the market mechanism and disrupted the economic stability of society, especially in the household and MSME segments that heavily rely on this commodity as a staple need and production material. The unreasonable price increase has led to public anxiety and indicates structural problems in the national cooking oil trade system, ranging from market dominance by large players to weak distribution control by the government. From an Islamic economic perspective, this condition needs to be examined because it concerns the principle of public welfare (maslahah ammah) and the prohibition of exploitative practices such as hoarding or ikhtikar. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the forms of ikhtikar carried out by stakeholders and their relevance to the principles of Islamic economics in responding to this price volatility. The study uses a literature review method with a descriptive analytical approach through a review of historical price data, government policies, and fiqh muamalah literature related to market practices. The findings indicate that price fluctuations are driven by a combination of production factors, distribution, and speculative actions leading to ikhtikar. Intervention policies such as market operations, price controls, and export restrictions temporarily reduce prices in the short term, but they have not addressed structural causes such as distribution inequality and lack of transparency in the supply chain. The study concludes that the control of ikhtikar from the perspective of Islamic economics must be focused on preventing monopoly, ensuring equitable distribution, strengthening the government's supervisory role, and promoting transparency in price information to support the creation of market stability and the sustainability of public welfare.

Abstract

The increasing competition within the coffee shop industry requires businesses to build a strong brand image, offer appealing product variations, and highlight local authenticity as a distinguishing value. Although local coffee shops continue to grow rapidly, empirical studies examining how these factors influence repurchase intention remain limited, indicating the need for further investigation. This study aims to analyze the influence of brand image, product diversification, and local authenticity on repurchase intention, as well as to examine whether customer experience moderates these relationships. A quantitative approach was employed using purposive sampling. A total of 170 respondents who had made purchases at Nyeduh Kopi Tabanan participated in the survey. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the direct relationships among variables and the moderating effect of customer experience. The findings reveal that brand image, product diversification, and local authenticity have a positive and significant influence on repurchase intention. In addition, customer experience strengthens the relationships between brand image and repurchase intention, as well as between local authenticity and repurchase intention, but does not moderate the effect of product diversification. These results emphasize the importance for local coffee shops to reinforce brand identity, expand relevant product variations, and consistently highlight local values. Enhancing customer experience also serves as a key strategy to foster positive consumer perceptions and increase the likelihood of repeat purchases.

Abstract

The Poverty Gap Index (P1) is an important indicator for assessing the vulnerability of the poor, but it has received little attention in policy formulation. Java Island, as the national economic center, still shows significant disparities in welfare between regions. This study analyzes the spatial patterns and factors that influence P1 in 119 districts/cities on Java Island in 2024 by incorporating spatial dependence into the model. The methods used include Moran’s I, Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA), and Spatial Autoregressive Model (SAR). The results show significant clusters, where regions with high P1 are concentrated in rural areas in Central Java and East Java. GRDP per capita has a negative and significant effect on P1, while the number of social assistance beneficiaries has a positive and significant effect. Expected years of schooling had a negative but insignificant effect. The significant spatial coefficient (ρ) indicates that there are inter- regional influences that need to be taken into account in understanding the dynamics of poverty gap. These findings suggest that policies need to be designed with spatial dimensions in mind to strengthen the effectiveness of poverty alleviation.

Abstract

This study examines the complex dynamics of religious identity representation among hijab-wearing Muslim female TikTokers in Aceh, focusing on how Islamic symbols, personal narratives, and platform algorithms shape public perceptions of piety in digital spaces. The research aims to identify the strategies used by creators to negotiate between local Islamic norms and the expressive culture of TikTok, as well as to analyze how audiences interpret these representations. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study collected data through in-depth interviews with content creators, observation of TikTok videos, and documentation of public responses. The findings reveal three dominant patterns: the aestheticization of Islamic identity, the commodification of piety, and the negotiation of moral boundaries within digital performance. These results contribute to broader discussions on digital religion and Muslim women’s agency in online media, while also highlighting the impact of algorithm-driven visibility.
