Abstract

Abstract This case study's goal is to examine the students’ perception with the application of extensive reading (ER) at university students. To learn more about The factors affecting the students’ success in ER class. Five EFL students of Harapan Bangsa University, Banyumas, Central Java, Indonesia, who are currently enrolled in their sixth semester as research participants selected on purpose based on three key factors, i.e. They are familiar with Extensive Reading and have taken ER courses. The information for this study was gathered using questionnaires, interviews, and diary entries from respondents. The information was then processed in accordance with Miles, Huberman, and Saldana's (2014) suggested stages of an interactive model of data analysis. There are two key conclusions from the analysis. First, the students contrasted their opinions on Extensive Reading Class. While one participant expressed joylessness and difficulty, four respondents reported enjoyment and motivation in the ER class. The students' different starting points in reading proficiency and the constrained freedom to choose what to read may all be pointed to as explanations for the finding. Second, according to the participants' perspectives, there are five elements that contribute to the success of an ER class: internal motivation, reading with initiative, a supportive reading environment, the availability of role model, and a variety of ER-based activities. Abstract

Firm value is one of the things considered by investors in investment decisions. Companies with a high value are expected to guarantee high dividends for investors. There are several factors that affect the high and low value of the company, some of which are financial ratios. This study aims to find out whether financial ratios can affect company value. Price to book value, current ratio, debt to equity ratio, and return on equity are used as proxies to measure firm value, liquidity, leverage, and profitability. Using 73 companies listed on the IDX in the financial sector in 2022 as a research sample, it was found that profitability has an effect on company value. Leverage also has a significant effect but in a negative direction and liquidity has no effect even though the direction is positive.

Abstract

One of the company’s goals is to get as much profit as possible. Profit or profit is an important means of maintaining the profitability of a business. Abstract

The community service activity entitled "Improving English Language Skills for Fovere Hotel Semarang Airport Staff". The target partners are economically productive communities, namely hotel staff. The hospitality industry currently faced with intense competition, a hotel must be able to have excellent service to win the hearts of consumers. Because only hotels that have superior service will be able to win the competition. Hotel as a service business supporting tourism activities, where its management is carried out by professionals and supported by employess who have competence/good skills in the hospitality sector. English language skills have become very important for hospitality staff to have. It is because, not only guests from within the country who come to the hotel, but also guests from abroad. The English language skills are needed in establishing the communication. In the training program for hotel staff, it used communicative learning. This is because, training is held in the afternoon after they worked. So, if the training program is not interested to them, it will make English training less successful. English language exercises are more focused on how hotel staff can communicate. And proven, hotel staff are more fluently in using English when they did competency tests.

Abstract

Send-A-Problem is one of cooperative learning techniques in which the students are involved in a discussion to solve a problem. It allows the students to practice together and learn from each other, so it is very effective to encourage the students’ self-esteem and creativity. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Send-A-Problem technique for teaching writing of junior high school students. This experimental study was conducted at a Junior High School in Banyumas, in February 2012-March 2015. The samples of the study were taken by using cluster random sampling. The samples are two classes; those are VIIIE which was treated as experimental class taught by using Send-A-Problem and VIIIF which was treated as control class taught using by Guided Writing. Each of them consists of 30 students. The data was taken from writing test. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics and independent t-test. The result shows that (1) Send-A-Problem is more effective than Guided Writing for teaching writing of Junior High School. In conclusion, Send-A-Problem is an effective technique to teach writing for Junior High School students.

Abstract

The focus of this paper is in area criminal law especially about the effectiveness of sanctions in the Child Protection Act against sexual predators in Indonesia related to additional punishment in the form of castration. This kind of punishment is the answer of the President of Republic Indonesia, Joko Widodo, to cope with the cruel sexual harassment to children. The crime rate showed a marked increase day by day. Furthermore, the motive of the sexual predators is become widespread and occurs in almost all regions in Indonesia. The castration issue of sanctions is a controversial issue. Many people concur with this kind of sanction. Meanwhile, others dis-agree on it because of some reasons. The purpose of this article is to review the formulation of a new sanction in Indonesia is regulated by Government Regulation of Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 1 /2016 as the second amendment to the Child Protection Act that already issues as an Act. This article uses normative studies, including reviewing or analyzing primary and secondary data in the form of legal materials to understand the law as a set of rules or positive norms in the legislation system that regulates the human life which are the relevant regulations as well as the concept of punishment the principle of fairness. Hence, this article can be understood as a literature study. The objective of this article is considerable contribution for the policy maker to evaluate the new existing legislation and to suggest possibilities of law reform. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimanakah pengaruh kompetensi dan pemahaman sistem informasi akuntansi serta motivasi terhadap kinerja karyawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan populasi seluruh karyawan pengguna Sistem Informasi Akuntansi pada RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa secara simultan variabel kompetensi, pemahaman sistem informasi akuntansi dan motivasi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap variabel kinerja karyawan. Tetapi pada pengujian secara parsial menunjukkan bahwa variabel kompetensi tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan, variabel pemahaman sistem informasi akuntansi tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan, dan variabel motivasi tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan.

Abstract

The medical personnel have a great responsibility in providing optimal health care. One of the medical personnel who is directly related to the service is a nurse. Nurses are required to have a good performance, in practice, the nurse has a challenge related the duration of work hours. Sometimes the work hours didn’t proper with the compensation obtained. In this study examines the effect of work life balance on employee performance by job satisfaction as a mediating variable. This research was conducted on nurses at Puskesmas inpatient unit on Semarang with a total respondent is 86 people. The sampling method used is Census Sampling. The questionnaire consisted of 6 questions about work life balance, 4 questions about job satisfaction, and 4 questions about employee performance. Data were processed using path analysis with SPSS 22.0 statistical methods for Windows. The results of the study found that work life balance had a significant effect on employee performance. Job satisfaction does not meet the requirements to become a mediating variable because work life balance on job satisfaction does not have a significant effect, and job satisfaction on performance has no significant effect. Thus, in this study the effect of work life balance with employee performance has a direct effect

Abstract

Abstrak Perjanjian studi lanjut dibuat tanpa paksaan, terjadi kesepakan antara Institusi dengan karyawan atau dosen yaitu institusi membiayai studi karyawan atau dosen bersedia untuk mengabdi di institusi tersebut dalam jangka waktu yang telah diperjanjikan. mengidentifikasi pemenuhan asas itikad baik sebagaimana Pasal 1338 ayat (3) Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata dalam pelaksanaan perjanjian Studi Lanjut pada Universitas Harapan Bangsa dan mengkaji penyebab tidak terpenuhinya asas itikad baik dan langkah langkah agar perjanjian studi lanjut pada Universitas Harapan Bangsa dapat terpenuhi. Metode pendekatan masalah yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini adalah yang bersifat yuridis empiris, yaitu suatu penelitian hukum mengenai pemberlakukan ketentuan hukum normatif pada setiap peristiwa hukum tertentu. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan dalam pra perjanjian studi lanjut terdapat adanya asas itikad baik dari semua pihak, dimana institusi secara detail menjelaskan kewajiban dan hak terhadap karyawan, sedangkan pihak karyawan didamping oleh wali orang tua atau suami dan dengan mengunakan jasa notaris sebagai pihak ketiga; 2) pengabaian perjanjian studi lanjut diperlukan langkah tegas dan nyata dari pihak Institusi terhadap pihak karyawan/dosen yang tidak memenuhi kewajiban dalam perjanjian Studi Lanjut. Beberapa saran antara lain Karyawan/dosen yang terikat dengan perjanjian studi lanjut hendaknya mempunyai itikad baik menjalankan perjanjian studi lanjut tersebut. Itikat baik saja tidak dapat sebagai jaminan perjanjian dapat terlaksana dengan baik, diperlukan sanksi dan penerapan yang tegas agar suatu peraturan dapat terpenuhi, Selain tindakan hukum yang tegas juga diperlukan reward dan kepastian akan kesejahteraan karyawan. Kata kunci: perjanjian studi lanjut, iktikat baik Abstract Study agreements are made without coercion, there is an agreement between the reporting institutions. Identification of the fulfillment especially the good faith principle in Article 1338 paragraph (3) of the Civil Code in the implementation of the Advanced Study at Harapan Bangsa University and examining the causes for the fulfillment of the principle of good faith and steps for the further study agreement at Harapan Bangsa University to be fulfilled. The problem approach method used in this research is juridical empirical, namely a legal research on the enforcement of normative legal provisions in any particular legal event. The results of the study revealed that in the pre-study there were principles of good faith from all parties, executors and rights to employees, while the employees were accompanied by their parents' guardians or husbands and by using the services of a notary as a third party; 2) neglect of the study agreement requires firm and concrete steps from the Institution against employees / lecturers who do not fulfill the obligations for post Study agreement. Some suggestions between employees / lecturers who are tied to post study, then it will do well to carry out the agreement. It is good that it cannot guarantee that the agreement can be carried out properly, it requires sanctions and strict application so that a regulation can be fulfilled, in addition to strict legal action, rewards and assurance of employee welfare are also required. Abstract

ABSTRACT Students’ engagement can be defined as how much time, commitment, and effort is devoted to the learning process. Students’ engagement is an important element in learning because it is a factor that affects academic success. During the emergency online learning due to covid-19 pandemic, some problems emerged because of the lack of learning engagement. This descriptive study was aimed to find out the problems faced by the students and the lecturers during the online learning as well as the tips to build learning engagement. The study was carried out in July 2020 to the students and the lecturers of Harapan Bangsa University. The data obtained from questionnaire and semi structured interview showed that although the implementation of online learning has been good, there were still some problems to be solved. Moreover, learning engagement was absolutely required during the online learning. It is expected that the result of this study may be useful for lecturers in designing the effective online learning and also for the students in understanding their role during the learning process.
