Abstract

One of the symbols of dignity and glory for Madurese men is reflected in women through their gold jewelry. Many Madurese women wear gold jewelry in large quantities and sizes, this has even become a social phenomenon. This study aims to describe the perspectives of Madurese men and women regarding gold jewelry as a symbol of men’s glory, as well as to identify the elements that influence these perspectives. The theoretical framework used is Alfred Schutz’s Phenomenological Theory. This research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participant observation. Data analysis is conducted using Moustakas’ phenomenological analysis. The findings of this study indicate that: (1) Gold jewelry is similarly interpreted by both Madurese men and women as a symbol of success. However, men tend to view gold jewelry as a symbol of dignity, pride, affection, and responsibility toward the family, while women interpret it as a symbol of beauty, honor, and self-identity; (2) The perspectives of Madurese men and women are influenced by elements such as knowledge, culture and tradition, and the social environment; (3) These perspectives on gold jewelry emerge from both because motives (experiences and inherited values related to honor and status) and in-order-to motives (the desire to maintain social image in the present as well as future-oriented aspirations); (4) Gold jewelry is not merely material in value as an investment or savings, but also carries social, cultural, and moral meanings related to perceptions of honor and gender roles (husband-wife).

Abstract

Coffee shops are no longer just places to enjoy coffee; they have evolved into multifunctional spaces for students, especially those in major cities like Surabaya. Students at Campus 1 of Surabaya State University are no exception. This phenomenon indicates that coffee shops have a greater appeal than simply providing beverages, but also as part of the student life experience. This study aims to identify and understand the motivations of students who frequently visit coffee shops. The theoretical basis used is the concept of "because motive" and "in order to motive" by Alfred Schutz. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach, with data obtained through in-depth interviews with students who frequently visit coffee shops around campus 1 of Surabaya State University. The results of the study indicate that the motives of students who frequently visit coffee shops are: 1) Waiting for the next class; 2) Continuing to work on unfinished assignments in the campus library; 3) Escaping the negative distractions of boarding rooms when working on assignments; 4) A comfortable coffee shop atmosphere can support student productivity. In order to motive students who frequently visit coffee shops are: 1) Maintaining and improving the semester's cumulative grade point average (GPA); 2) Faster completion of college assignments; 3) Chasing the deadline for submitting college assignments; 4) So as not to repeat courses and graduate on time; 5) Productive dating; 6) Building relationships with fellow students; 7) Looking for inspiration for trendy student style outfits and makeup; 8) Feeding social media accounts.

Abstract

This study aims to understand students’ meaning-making of the respect pillar in the Character Education Program assisted by observation sheets at SMK Wijaya Putra Surabaya, as well as to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in fostering respectful attitudes. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving students, homeroom teachers, and the PBP program management team. The findings indicate that students interpret the respect pillar as obedience to school rules, politeness in social interactions, and the ability to exercise self-control. However, such interpretations remain at a normative and administrative level and have not been fully internalized as moral awareness. From the perspective of Thomas Lickona’s character education framework, the development of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action has not progressed in a balanced manner, as students’ motivation is still dominated by external factors such as fear of consequences and school evaluation. Observation sheets function as reflective instruments with the potential to foster students’ self-awareness, although in practice they are often perceived as tools of behavioral control. Supporting factors in fostering respect include consistency in value habituation, a humanistic approach adopted by teachers and homeroom teachers, parental support, and a structured observation system, while inhibiting factors include limited internal awareness, peer group influence, masculine practice culture, and inconsistency in rule enforcement.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis peran praktik pedagogik partisipatif dalam menguatkan civic disposition peserta didik melalui pembelajaran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan. Civic disposition dipahami sebagai seperangkat sikap, nilai dan karakter yang menopang partisipasi demokratis, tanggung jawab sosial dan karakter kewargaan. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kepustakaan. Sumber data berupa artikel jurnal nasional dan internasional bereputasi, buku ilmiah, serta laporan penelitian yang membahas civic disposition, pendidikan karakter, dan pedagogi partisipatif. Data dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis tematik melalui tahap pengkodean, pengelompokan tema dan penarikan makna konseptual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa praktik pedagogik berbasis refleksi, diskusi deliberatif, proyek sosial dan pembelajaran berbasis masalah mampu menginternalisasikan nilai tanggung jawab, toleransi, kepedulian dan partisipasi aktif siswa. Internalisasi nilai moral berlangsung efektif ketika pembelajaran mengintegrasikan pendekatan meaningful, mindful dan joyful learning yang memadukan dimensi kognitif, afektif dan konatif. Partisipasi aktif warga negara terinternalisasi melalui pengalaman langsung dalam laboratorium demokrasi di sekolah seperti pemilihan siswa, debat publik dan proyek kolaboratif dengan masyarakat. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa penguatan civic disposition tidak efektif jika hanya mengandalkan pendekatan kognitif, melainkan membutuhkan pengalaman belajar yang partisipatif dan kontekstual. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan model pembelajaran PKn yang berorientasi pada pembentukan karakter kewargaan secara utuh serta mendorong reorientasi paradigma menuju transformative civic education.
