Abstract

This article covers philosophical theology and its relevance to the issues between Islamic theology and science during Pandemic COVID-19. There were numerous scientific discoveries on covid-19 such as its contagion, the importance of physical distancing, the importance of wearing the mask, the importance of avoiding crowds, vaccines, etc. All of them have been public consumption. As a consequence, there was religious dissent in Muslim society. The one group took science on its side and negated any communal worship without health protocol. The other group chose “Islamic theology” and still conducted any communal worship without health protocol. To answer this reality, it is important to see how al-Ghazali handled philosophy and Islamic theology in harmony. Like al-Ghazali, Muslim society should respect scientific discoveries concerning the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not only appreciate the scientific discoveries but Muslim society also should keep in mind that the will and act of God are attached to the efforts of science to handle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The emergence of new media, such as social media, has provided a space for religious communities or groups to create religious narratives or religious discourses in the digital realm. Religion is represented in a more contemporary manner, supported by advanced information technologies, packaged, and reproduced in a more modern style. Religious discourse in the digital space has thus made religious authority fluid and complex, no longer rigid and solely held by religious institutions. This condition has given rise to what is known as online authority. Online authority, in the early studies of digital religious authority, is considered by several scholars to potentially shift the existence and legitimacy of traditional authorities that have been in existence for a longer period. Traditional authority is deemed unable to adapt to digital practices. Through a literature review approach, this paper concludes that traditional and online authority are not separate entities; traditional authority can enter and exist in the online domain with packaging, styles, and innovations that align with digital practices. Traditional authority, with its strong legitimacy, is capable of presenting itself in the online domain, being repackaged and represented in ways or styles that are in line with contemporary and modern trends.

Abstract

This paper aims to study and prove how the religious behavior of coastal Lamongan people in a dynamic society in search of a religious model that can provide worldly happiness and ukhrowi, using Max Weber's theoretical approach in looking at the purpose of actions taken by someone with diverse motives. Religious behavior is certainly inseparable from factors from within a person or from outside, including figures who become role models of society. Therefore, there will be a variety of religions, ranging from exclusive and inclusive. This research found that two religious organizations -Muhammadiyah and NU- which have been considered well established in The Lamongan Coast, apparently experienced changes in gaining trust related to solving the problem of immorality. Therefore, coastal communities that tend to be dynamic, try to find self-satisfaction by learning to draw closer to their Lord (Allah), by following the religious activities of new groups outside Muhammadiyah and NU. The intersubjective religious model implemented by this new group was able to open up and be accepted among the people of Lamongan Coast.

Abstract

This paper discusses fiqh peradaban (Islamic jurisprudence for civilization) as a concept that emphasizes the importance of resolving conflicts and prioritizes fundamental ethics as an aspect of morality in order to create peace in living religious and state life. More specifically, it highlights the importance of fiqh peradaban in maintaining social cohesion and national unity in a bhinneka-nuanced society. In this sense, fiqh peradaban functions as a framework for building unity and harmony amidst diversity. This research is library research; it reviews library resources related to the concept of fiqh peradaban. This research uses a qualitative approach and presents data descriptively. The data collected in this research includes the intersection between the UN Charter and Islamic law; the relationship between Islam, the state, and democracy; the role of Islam in modern society and state; and the concept of fiqh peradaban as a balanced control between the state and religion. In general, the results of this study show that fiqh peradaban has a crucial role in overcoming conflicts and problems that arise in religious and state life. These conflicts and problems must be resolved by the state because they can threaten religious harmony and national unity. However, the state's involvement in religious and spiritual affairs may create its own problems. It is here that fiqh peradaban is present as a solution because it offers foundational ethics for modern society.

Abstract

The book Tarjamah Sabīlul al-Abīd 'ala Jauharah al-Tauhīd by Kiai Sholeh Darat is one of the legacies of the Islamic theology of the Archipelago which has had a significant influence on Islamic mindsets, especially among Islamic boarding schools. One of the important and exciting discussions in the book described in this article is a critique of the Mu'tazilah teachings in matters of aqidah, using library data to obtain primary and secondary data and a philosophical hermeneutic approach that emphasizes verstehen (understanding) and interpretation elements. Two important points were found in this article: First, according to the teachings of Kiai Sholeh Darat Mu'tazilah, which states that the mind can know God is a mistake because it negates the shari'ah. Second, Kiai Sholeh Darat also criticized the Mu'tazilah teachings regarding Usul al-Khomsah as the core teachings of the Mu'tazilah. Even this criticism is quite complete because it covers core issues such as the qadim and the hadith of kalamullah, whether or not God's nature exists or not, free will, God's justice, and the position of humans who commit major sins.

Abstract

The presence of philosophy in society is still widely questioned because it is considered capable of undermining beliefs, leading astray, and even having no benefits. The negative view of society towards philosophy is due to the religious and devout culture of the community. However, the development of education, especially at State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) and the establishment of Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy Department, it has given rise to philosophers within the student community at PTKIN. Moreover, the unique behavior of philosophy enthusiasts often attracts attention within the PTKIN student community, prompting researchers to examine the perceptions of philosophy enthusiasts regarding the dimension of religiosity in the midst of Indonesia's predominantly religious and devout cultural environment. This research employs a qualitative approach using Glock and Stark's theory on the dimensions of religiosity. The results show that the perceptions of philosophy activists at PTKIN regarding religiosity encompass three aspects. First, of aqidah, philosophy activists may become doubtful about their beliefs or, conversely, strengthen their faith, as well as cleanse impure religious doctrines. Second, in terms of worship, the non-performance of religious rituals is not solely caused by philosophy, but there are other factors at play. Third, morality or akhlak, philosophy has a positive impact on the behavior of philosophy activists.

Abstract

This paper investigates how interfaith dialogue discourse is now developing significantly with the role of social media and youth. Based on online research and virtual ethnography, this paper argues that creatively utilizing social media with involving youth as media-savvy is the main factor in significantly increasing the acceptance of interfaith dialogue discourse. In-depth content analysis with a focus on interfaith dialogue through YouTube podcasts reveals several strategies applied by the creator. This paper highlights several strategies, namely using hashtag and maximizing thumbnail, propagating podcasts with clickbait titles, consistenly uploading content, and connecting with other platforms. In addition, youth involvement also plays an important role in achieving significant interfaith dialogue such as by engaging them with humor and comedy, eye-catching appearance and millennial style, and visual persuasion. Finally, great acceptability achieved by interfaith podcasts on youtube has proven the existence of religious inclusivity in Indonesia.

Abstract

The contestation of conversation about the Baha'i religious group in Indonesia continues from time to time. In valuable retrospect, there has been much debate that characterizes the existence of the Baha'i group. As a result, it is very unfortunate that there are many frictions caused by socio-religious friction in the social sphere. This has led to many assumptions about religious freedom in Indonesia, which are increasingly showing a repressive trend. The author is interested in analyzing the various frictions that arise between the gaps in religious plurality in Indonesia, both pragmatic and paradigmatic. In addition, the author wants to examine how the role of the government can break the deadlock of friction. The research was conducted with a qualitative analysis oriented toward a literature review and Maqasid Syariah as a theoretical perception. Exploration research focuses on various phenomena that occur around the presence of Baha'is in Indonesia and how potential conflicts can arise in them. This research proves that the state needs to be present to accommodate various religions and coexist by prioritizing the concept of benefit for all citizens. In addition, the role of society in maintaining multicultural values must be initiated more intensely and in a dialogical manner.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the role of religious moderation to improving the morale of the millennial generation and helping them become better people. This study used a descriptive-qualitative research methodology. Research data were collected through interviews with questionnaires, non-participant observations, and documentation. The study informants numbered 10 participants (7 men and 3 women) aged 24 to 30 years. Research findings show that diversity can lead to various conflicts if society cannot find a middle ground for everything. These problems can be solved with religious tolerance and moderation to create peace and harmony in society. People who do not have knowledge of religious moderation and good religious foundations will have morals that are not in accordance with religious values, for example, drug addiction and bullying. Both actions are basically driven by environmental factors. In Islam, drugs and bullying are things that have a lot of mudharat, so it is forbidden to do so. However, those who are willing to leave both should not be excluded so that they feel that their change has the support of their surroundings. A society that has a strong knowledge base of religious moderation and faith will always embrace it so that a life of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect can be created.

Abstract

The rules and attitudes of Muslim worship during the Covid-19 pandemic are still continuously applied by the Masjid Gede Mataram Kotagede Yogyakarta in the post-pandemic period. Studies that have discussed this phenomenon focus on the adaptation and recovery process of religious activities, so they have not comprehensively discussed the rules and attitudes of post-pandemic Muslim worship. This study focuses on the question, "How are the rules and attitudes of worship chosen and implemented by Muslims in the post-pandemic?" This study uses a descriptive-qualitative approach conducted on the congregation/jama’ah, which actively practices the five daily prayers in the congregation of the post-pandemic. These Muslims were interviewed intensively to obtain data on the activities, rules, and attitudes of worship chosen and practised post-pandemic. This study shows that the post-pandemic worship rules and attitudes of Muslims can no longer return to normal in the new normal era because they are influenced by structural and cultural factors formed during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study recommends explaining post-pandemic Muslim worship rules and attitudes by interviewing more macro and comparative Muslim communities.
