Abstract

This study analyzes the Disney animated film Brother Bear (2003) to explore the transformative journey of its protagonist, Kenai, focusing on his characterization and development. The paper investigates three key areas: the rationale for Kenai's transformation into a bear, the resultant shifts in his beliefs and perspectives, and the film's portrayal of the human-animal relationship. Using a descriptive qualitative methodology, the analysis examines key scenes and dialogue, applying a theoretical framework that includes characterization, mise-en-scène, empathy, and immersive transformation theories. The findings indicate that Kenai's transformation is a consequence of his grief and anger following his brother's death, an act of revenge aligning with violence theory. Initially an immature and arrogant adolescent who views bears as violent creatures, Kenai undergoes a profound shift in perspective. His immersive transformation deepens his empathy, leading to his maturation into a responsible and compassionate individual. The film ultimately portrays the human-animal relationship as one of spiritual and emotional equality, highlighting the potential for harmonious coexistence. The acceptance of Kenai and Koda into the human tribe at the film's conclusion symbolizes reconciliation and mutual respect, minimizing the initial tensions and conflicts.

Abstract

The transformation of conventional learning to digital learning is increasingly characterized by artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence can be used to create interactive digital media for storytelling materials. However, artificial intelligence raises ethical issues and concerns among teachers. This study aims to (1) explain generative artificial intelligence in the creation of interactive digital media and (2) describe interactive digital media as a learning medium for Bayan Budiman's storytelling. This paper used descriptive qualitative methods to design interactive digital media based on artificial intelligence in storytelling learning. The results of this study indicate that artificial intelligence can assist teachers in producing multimodal interactive digital media and receive positive feedback from students. Artificial intelligence can be used as a solution to produce media while maintaining the students' thinking process to address the issue of using artificial intelligence in learning

Abstract

This study examines the representation of cultural values within the Hohó Mesozokhö Bu’ulölö chants of South Nias as a form of oral tradition that preserves collective memory and cultural identity. Departing from previous scholarship that primarily emphasizes the documentation of performance forms and functions, this article highlights how cultural values are articulated through lexical choices, ancestral characterization, the structuring of origin myths, and the human–nature relationship within the poetic text. The primary data consists of Hohó texts documented by the Nias Heritage Foundation (Yayasan Pusaka Nias), supported by ethnographic references, oral tradition studies, and Nias cultural sources. A qualitative-interpretative analysis was employed, involving data reduction, thematic coding of values, and the interpretation of representation—grounded in representation theory—while linking meanings to the frameworks of cultural memory and narrative identity. Data validity was maintained through source triangulation and semantic validation via expert and cultural practitioner review. The findings reveal six dominant values: reverence for ancestors, human–nature interconnectedness, customary leadership, bravery and honor, kinship unity, and spirituality. These results affirm that Hohó is not merely an aesthetic expression, but a vital mechanism for the transmission of values and the reinforcement of cultural identity for the Nias people, particularly in the South Nias region.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perlawanan batin yang terdapat dalam novel bertema konflik Aceh dan realitas dalam masyarakat pascadamai. Penelitian mengkaji perlawanan batin yang dilakukan oleh tokoh dalam novel saat konflik Aceh dan realitas yang terjadi pascadamai. Penelitian ini mengkaji kata, frasa, kalimat dan paragraf yang mengandung perihal perlawanan batin di dalam novel Kabut Perang dan realitas di Aceh pascadamai. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa novel kabut perang memiliki perlawanan batin di dalam watak tokoh dan peristiwa di dalamnya. Adapun perlawanan batin yang ditemukan dalam novel kabut perang adalah (1) gejolak hati, (2) memendam suatu masalah, (3) dendam, (4) menyebarkan ideologi, (5) menolak berdamai, (6) pertentangan moral, (7) menebar kebencian, (8) goyahnya keyakinan, (9) rasa bersalah, (10) bimbang pada perjuangan, (11) kesetiaan dan pengkhianatan, (12) kekuatan hati, dan (13) tidak mau patuh. Bentuk perlawanan batin tersebut muncul dari sosiologi pengarang dan realitas yang terjadi dalam masyarakat. Pascadamai, perlawanan batin tersebut sudah mulai diungkapkan secara nyata. Masyarakat dan mantan kombatan mulai berani untuk mengkritisi perihal kekarasan masa konflik, penderitaaan, dan kepemimpinan mantan kombatan GAM di Aceh secara realita.
