Abstract

Traditional Acehnese houses are traditional houses of the Acehnese people that reflect the richness of culture and Islamic values. Traditional Acehnese houses, or commonly called rumoh Aceh, have unique characteristics that can attract tourists, especially those interested in spiritual tourism. In addition to visual appeal, Rumoh Aceh also provides space for religious tourists to engage in spiritual practices and understand the Islamic philosophy that underlies the layout of the house. This enriches the tourist experience with direct interaction with the religious life of the local community. The design of the house oriented towards the direction of the Qibla, the use of natural materials such as wood and rumbia leaves, and architectural elements such as low doors that symbolize humility, all reflect religious and social values that are integrated into the lives of the Acehnese people. This study uses qualitative methods through direct observation and also literature studies on Acehnese architecture and Islamic values integrated into the design of rumoh Aceh. This study emphasizes the importance of preserving Rumoh Aceh not only as a physical cultural heritage, but also as part of Aceh's spiritual identity. The preservation of this traditional house has great potential to contribute to the development of sustainable religious tourism that can support local economic growth, while maintaining the richness of Acehnese culture. Proper promotion and preservation efforts for Rumoh Aceh as a religious tourism object can increase global awareness of Aceh's cultural values and strengthen its position in the religious tourism sector.

Abstract

Textile industry in the nineteenth century of the British Empire was one of the milestone industries which center on cotton mills. The development of this industry attracted many people who wished to increase their life’ standard to migrate to area near the factories located in order to work there. As much as giving revenue for the country, these factories also gave impact to the environment as well as people living and working in it. There were three things behind the environmental impact during the Victorian era of textile industry, fire hazard, mills’ poor conditions and factory bill. Flammable materials, like raw cotton which mainly used in this industry, and high temperature room caused the factories engulfed in fire. The lacked protection from fire of the factories’ construction then led to a new building method being introduced and applied called the “Fireproof Construction”. Poor health condition of the workers who worked in high humidity and temperature of cotton mills brought a creation of factory bill (Factory Act) being passed. However, the act that was supposed to act as a regulation for factories owners to offer their worker a much more suitable place to work was hardly fully implied during this time. The writer used literature review method in collecting data. This article therefore intended to deliver the reader about the environment situation in the cotton factories while also giving the idea on how hardly an ideal comfort was achieved.

Abstract

The existence of a city park is very important in urban planning. In addition to functioning as a public facility, city parks are also very important if viewed from various aspects. Based on the Aceh Provincial Spatial Plan, each Regency/City must have a Green Open Space (RTH) area of 30%. This research takes place in Sigli City which is one of the sub-districts in Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, Indonesia. The Sigli City Government is currently carrying out developments on varioussides, one of which is the construction of city parks as facilities for green open spaces and public spaces. The City Park, which is located on Jalan Merdeka, precisely on the banks of the Sigli river, has the potential to accommodate the needs ofthe community for the need for open space or public facilities. However, based on the author's observations at the location, this city park looks deserted from visitors, poorly maintained and misused as a garbage dump. This is certainly verydetrimental to the community and the environment, considering that this city park is a public facility that must be optimized properly. To increase visits and utilization of Sigli City Park, action is needed for changes or revitalization. To find out what actions must be taken, it is necessary to identify the perception of the people of Sigli about the park. For this reason, this research was carried out in order to create a representative city center park with Islamic nuances as part of the central public space of Sigli City. Based on the research findings, it has been planned to reorganize Sigli City Park which is representative and has an Islamic nuance. It is hoped that this research can contribute to the Government and the people of Sigli City.

Abstract

Langsa is one of the city that was once colonized by the Dutch in 1877-1942. During the Dutch colonial period, Langsa was used as a transit point (command post), so that many Dutch government officials settled in Langsa. Within in a short of time Langsa became a big city, all kinds of infrastructure were built and filled with typical Dutch architectural heritage. Nowadays, most of these buildings are neglected and start to lose its historical values. This phenomena happened because of lack appreciation of the local community for the existence of historical buildings, some of them have been damaged and demolished, so that their authenticity is no longer visible. There are several buildings from the Dutch colonial heritage in Langsa that are still standing strong today, namely the Museum, Hall, Satpol PP and WH offices, Post Office, SDN 1 School and Istiqamah Mosque. All of these Dutch colonial heritage buildings are located in one adjacent area and are still well used by the community, some of them have been converted into new function. One of the buildings whose Dutch colonial authenticity and characteristics are very visible is the museum building which is located in the city center. At First this building functioned as the headquarters of the Dutch army, after experiencing several changes in function, in 2019 this building was inaugurated as a museum by the Langsa City Education and Culture Office (Disdikbud). This research is using a descriptive qualitative research through literature studies, interviews and field observations. The purpose of this research are to study and identify further the facade of the Langsa City Museum. The results of this study are expected to be useful as data and guidelines for the government and other parties in planning physical improvements so that the original elements of colonial buildings would not disappear.
