Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze communication patterns in dysfunctional families and understand how resilience develops in children in Tegal City. Methodology: This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with children from dysfunctional families and interviews with parents, teachers, and child psychologists in Tegal City. Results: Communication patterns in dysfunctional families in Tegal City significantly impact children’s emotional and social development. However, resilience is a key factor that allows children to survive and thrive under difficult conditions. Support from the surrounding environment, such as schools and social communities, plays an important role in helping children from dysfunctional families build psychological resilience and achieve a better life. Conclusions: This study shows that communication patterns in dysfunctional families in Tegal Citsy, both in structurally intact and incomplete families, significantly influence children's resilience levels. Limitations: Research on the analysis of communication patterns in dysfunctional families and resilience in children in Tegal City has several limitations, namely having a limited sample, using qualitative methods and focusing on one location (Tegal City). Contribution: This study can improve understanding and increase public awareness of communication patterns in dysfunctional families and child resilience. This study can also be used by clinical practitioners to develop more effective intervention strategies in the future.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the Affordable Food Movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah, GPM) program in Bandung City, which seeks to stabilize food supply and prices by providing food at prices below the market rate, making it affordable for low- and middle-income communities despite their dependence on external food sources. Research Methodology: This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive approach based on the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model developed by Stufflebeam (1985). Data were gathered through document analysis, observations, and interviews with local government officials and community representatives Results: The findings reveal several challenges: uneven implementation across districts, limited execution in areas affected by stunting and low socioeconomic status, protracted coordination processes, inadequate budgeting, ineffective public communication, and flawed operational mechanisms. These constraints hinder the program’s objective of ensuring access to affordable food for vulnerable populations. Conclusion: The evaluation reveals that the Affordable Food Movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah, GPM) program in Bandung faces challenges in consistent implementation, coordination, and outreach, limiting its effectiveness in assisting vulnerable populations. Comprehensive improvements in program design and management are essential to enhance its impact on food supply stability and community welfare. Limitations: The study’s limitations include reliance on qualitative data from a single region, which may affect the generalizability of the findings to other cities. Contributions: This research provides strategic recommendations to enhance food security programs, supporting policymakers and stakeholders in improving urban food systems and poverty reduction. Implementing these can stabilize food prices and expand access for underserved communities in Bandung.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the influence of Bugis ethnic identity on Noor Ishmatuddin’s victory in the 2024 Legislative Election in the coastal areas of Banyuasin. Methodology/approach: The research was conducted in Telok Payo and Muara Sungsang, Banyuasin, using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, online questionnaires (Google Forms), and documentation. Informants included Noor Ishmatuddin, community leaders, local residents, and campaign team members. Results/findings: Bugis ethnic identity strengthened Noor Ishmatuddin’s symbolic legitimacy; however, his electoral victory was primarily driven by inclusive campaign strategies, effective use of social media, and strong supporter loyalty. The influence of family, local strongmen, and cultural activities further enhanced voter trust without generating polarization. Conclusions: Noor Ishmatuddin’s victory in Banyuasin was not solely determined by his Bugis ethnic identity but was also shaped by inclusive campaign strategies, digital engagement, loyal grassroots support, and the involvement of family and local figures. While ethnic identity functioned as symbolic capital, the decisive factors were adaptive and participatory approaches that successfully avoided social polarization. Limitations: The study is limited to two villages, which may not fully capture broader regional dynamics. Contribution: This research enriches the understanding of identity politics in local elections and provides insights into ethical campaign strategies for multicultural regions.

Abstract

Purpose: This study analyzes the implementation of the Legal Metrology supervision policy through educational content on Instagram by the Directorate of Metrology. The objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of this digital communication strategy and identify the key factors that influence policy implementation. Ensuring accurate measurements and protecting consumer rights are central to the policy’s intent. Methodology/Approach: A descriptive qualitative approach was adopted, utilizing Van Meter and Van Horn’s implementation theory as the primary analytical framework. In addition, a SWOT analysis was conducted to identify internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats, to formulate strategic recommendations for improvement. Results/Findings: The findings indicate that using Instagram for policy implementation is moderately effective but has not reached its full potential. Several obstacles were identified, including limited human resources, internal organizational constraints, and low levels of public engagement. Conclusions: The Directorate of Metrology has made notable progress in leveraging digital platforms for public education and outreach. Nonetheless, there is a need for targeted strategic improvements. Enhancing human resource capacity, improving content quality, and adopting more effective outreach strategies are essential to increasing overall effectiveness and building greater public trust in legal metrology practices. Limitations: This study is limited to qualitative analysis and does not include quantitative measurements of social media engagement or comparisons with other governmental institutions. Contribution: The study offers practical insights into optimizing social media for policy implementation, supervision, and consumer protection.

Meanwhile, Ridwan Kamil (@ridwankamil), was ranked 1st and 2nd for reply. Ridwan Kamil also got the highest quote interaction. The topic of moving the IKN involved well-known figures accounts such as Hidayat Nur Wahid and Sudjiwo Tedjo. In addition, accounts that are also involved and get high user engagement are accounts belonging to the media, such as Tempo (@tempodotco), Kompas (@kompascom and @kompasTV), Kumparan (@kumparan), and CNN Indonesia (CNN Indonesia). Conclusions: The study reveals that personal accounts, particularly those of Muhammad Said Didu and Ridwan Kamil, dominate political communication about the National Capital City (IKN) issue on Twitter. Despite having fewer followers than media outlets, these individuals achieved higher engagement through more personal and interactive communication styles. In contrast, media accounts tended to act as one-way information sources, generating less audience interaction. The findings highlight that authenticity and direct engagement are key to influencing public discourse on political issues in the digital era. Abstract

Purpose: This study explores the underlying motivations of male digital users in Indonesia for using social media platforms, particularly focusing on the interplay between entertainment, religious learning, social connection, information-seeking, and self-expression. The research aims to understand how cultural and religious contexts influence digital engagement among this demographic group. Methodology/approach: A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews with 25 male social media users aged 18–30. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically using an inductive method. Techniques such as member checking and peer debriefing were applied to enhance credibility. Results/findings: The findings reveal five overlapping motivations: (1) entertainment as emotional regulation and habit-forming behavior; (2) religious learning as spiritual reinforcement and identity expression; (3) social connection through online brotherhood and niche communities; (4) information-seeking driven by curiosity and personal growth; and (5) self-expression as a means of moral signaling and personal branding. These motivations are mediated by gender norms, religious values, and platform affordances. Conclusions: Male digital users strategically utilize social media to fulfill emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual, and expressive needs. This behavior highlights the integration of technology with masculine identity and Islamic values in a digital context. Limitations: The study is limited to urban settings in Java and focuses on a specific age group. It does not include platform usage logs or cross-platform comparisons. Contribution: This research contributes to media and communication studies by offering a culturally grounded understanding of male digital behavior, expanding on Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT), Self-Determination Theory (SDT), and Social Identity Theory (SIT) in non-Western contexts.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the use of radar and drone technology in counteracting maritime security threats in Indonesia. The main focus is directed at the extent to which the two technologies can complement each other, the implementation obstacles faced, and strategic solutions to improve marine surveillance. Methodology/approach: This study uses secondary data collected from various sources of literature, institutional regulations, and the results of previous studies relevant to law enforcement in Indonesian waters. The data is analyzed qualitatively and presented descriptively. Results/findings: The main challenges of Indonesia's maritime security include the area of the sea that is difficult to reach, weak surveillance, and the development of various forms of threats such as smuggling and border violations. Radars and drones have great potential in detecting and monitoring illegal activities at sea. However, challenges such as limited reach, technical capabilities, human resources, and suboptimal integration between institutions are still the main obstacles. Therefore, it is necessary to modernize equipment, train personnel, and improve coordination between maritime institutions. Conclusions: The study concludes that integrating radar and drone technologies significantly enhances Indonesia’s maritime security. Radar ensures wide detection coverage, while drones provide real-time monitoring and flexibility. Yet, limited infrastructure and coordination reduce effectiveness. Strengthening technology, training, and interagency collaboration is essential to improve maritime defense efficiency and responsiveness. Limitations: Lies in an approach that uses only secondary data, without the support of live interviews or field data. For this reason, follow-up studies are recommended to involve primary data from institutions such as the Indonesian Navy and Bakamla. Contribution: Future research is also expected to explore other supporting technologies, such as surveillance satellites and AI, as well as examine regulatory and policy factors in more depth.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to 1) describe youth attitudes toward tourist village management and 2) analyse the factors influencing these attitudes. Methodology/approach: This study employs a mixed-methods approach, primarily quantitative with qualitative support. Using purposive sampling, we selected 71 respondents meeting the following criteria: aged 17-45 years, current residency status (non-travelers), employment status (working or unemployed), marital status (unmarried). Results/findings: The study revealed three key findings: 1) Youth attitudes toward tourism village business management were generally positive, with the affective dimension being most prominent; 2) Five factors significantly influenced these attitudes: individual characteristics, entrepreneurial traits, social learning, environmental support, and motivation. These factors collectively explained 49.4% of the variance in youth attitudes. Conclusions: Although youth maintain positive beliefs and evaluations regarding tourist village business management, this does not necessarily translate into their intention to engage in more formal contexts. Other determining factors come into consideration, including potential benefits and work flexibility. Limitations: This study does not account for tourism village infrastructure conditions, which may be significant predictors of youth attitudes toward tourism village business management. The quantitative design may overlook nuanced motivational factors. We recommend that future research employ FGD to examine youth motivations in greater depth qualitatively. Contribution: The village government can implement a two-pronged strategy to foster youth entrepreneurship: 1) Establish Village Youth Business Groups, 2) Create Experiential Learning Opportunities. This approach combines structural support with social learning, increasing capability and motivation.
