Abstract

The campus environment often exposes students to academic, social, andpersonal pressures that can af ect their mental health. As a result, peer counseling becomes anessential approach to support students facing psychological dif iculties. One key skill in peer counselingis Psychological First Aid (PFA), which provides initial emotional support to individuals experiencing psychological distress. This PFA training was conducted for third-semester BKI students to enhance their ability to provide psychological support based on Islamic principles. The method used in this activity combines a literature-based socialization approach with practical exercises through seminars, discussions, and counseling simulations. The results show that while participants understood PFA theory well, some still faced dificulties in applying the techniques, especially in formulating the right questions as counselors. In conclusion, furthertraining is needed to strengthen the application of these counseling skills.

Abstract

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) represent a major and increasing public health challenge in Tanah Laut Regency, particularly in Swarangan Village. The most commonly identified NCDs in the community include diabetes mellitus, gout, cardiovascular disease, and stroke. This community service program aimed to increase community awareness of NCD prevention and facilitate early detection through free health screening services. The program was implemented through collaboration between Borneo Citra Medika Polytechnic of Health and Borneo Citra Medika Hospital, involving healthcare professionals and academic staff. A total of 150 community members participated in the activity. The intervention began with a medical anamnesis to identify health complaints and risk factors, followed by targeted laboratory examinations for participants with clinical indications. The screening results showed that 35 participants (23.3%) underwent blood glucose testing, 29 participants (19.3%) underwent uric acid testing, and 44 participants (29.3%) underwent cholesterol testing, indicating a considerable proportion of individuals at risk of NCDs. The program contributed to increased community awareness, early identification of risk factors, and strengthened preventive health efforts at the community level.

Abstract

Limited public awareness of routine health check-ups and healthy lifestyle practices contributes to various untreated health problems in the community. This community service program aimed to increase public awareness and promote early detection of health conditions through free medical screening services. The activity was conducted by lecturers and students of Borneo Citra Medika Polytechnic of Health in collaboration with Borneo Citra Medika Hospital. A total of 52 participants, predominantly housewives, attended the program. The methods included medical anamnesis, basic physical examinations, and health consultations. The results showed that 15 participants experienced myalgia, 7 reported toothache, 6 had gastritis, and 6 had cough, while others presented with asthma, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, fever, and allergies. The program improved community awareness regarding the importance of regular health check-ups and early detection. Sustainable community-based screening activities are recommended to strengthen preventive and promotive health efforts and improve overall community health outcomes.
