Abstract

Nowadays, education tends to ignore the value of human being which consists of the liberation. The liberation value in human individual is taken by another person who yells out democracy. We can find the real fact in reality where one person takes another person’s right through an institution with democracy and quality reasons. An education scientist, Paulo Freire, gives an illustration that education today through formal institution makes robot in human who work as mechanic machine, where their independent to act and express the ideas is limited. In simple way, Freire points out that, “The absolute consistency will make life becomes worthless, discolor, and cannot be felt experience.” Based on the statement above, Freire has deschooling concept, the concept of study without schooling. It’s because the study can be done out of the formal school even in outdoor condition.

Abstract

Islamic education has three related foundations. One of the intended foundations is education and teaching. Without leaving aside other two foundations (research and dedication to the society), education is the important element that becomes the instrument of potential development of human resources that have competitive superiority. Two kinds of these superiorities (added by collaborative and spiritual superiority) become “condition sine qua non” that has to be developed by Islamic education world, so that its existence will not be the “ivory tower”. The knowledge expansion from normative way to the development of business skill which stands on religious values as “added value” that becomes a must in the middle of crowded global economic. The objectives of this article are to explain the basic economic concept which is built on the foundation and religious value (Read: Islamic Economy), entrepreneurship character building and the role of Islamic University.

Abstract

English is the second language that has to be learned in formal education institution and also becomes compulsory subject for students of English department. Each language has different elements that make the students are difficult to master foreign language (English). Moreover, language mastery must have four language skills where composition is one of skills in language. This article explains the result of the research concerns with the Indonesian language syntactical interference on English essay. Based on the result of the research, the ability of writing sentences on English essay is still influenced by Indonesian language, even thought many students are able to write English essay with the appropriate grammar especially for the students of English Department of the fourth semester at State Institute of Islamic Studies Samarinda.

Abstract

Al-qur’an is normative source in Islamic education. Al-qur’an consists of the importance of learning and study. It’s described from many verses of Al-qur’an which explain about knowledge. For instance, the first verse that stated “iqra” which is in Indonesian language means “bacalah”. Furthermore, Al-qur’an contains the methods used in learning in order to ease people who want to study. Those kinds of methods are discussion method, tarhib wa targhib method, story method, learn by example method, and also practice and repeating method.

Abstract

Abdurrahman al-Nasir was the leader of Bani umayyah in Andalusia that famous and be a good model for every people. In his government period, Bany Umayyah could achieve the glory especially in knowledge field. In advancing the society’s need of knowledge, Abdurrahahman al-Nasir built Cordova University and library to facilitate the education system. Furthermore, education world in Abdurrahman al-Nasir government period becomes the priority and made Cordova as the center of intellectual activities, it was the same that happened in Toledo and Suville. The education center connected the education dualism of Religious knowledge and general knowledge such as Astronomy, Geometry, Health, Law, History, Language, Geography, and Science. Soon there were born Muslim scientists from any kinds of knowledge fields. With the persistence of Abdurrahman al-Nasir, he created the composure and also the prosperous Andalusia especially Cordova. With the result that Islamic government in the West painted the brilliant history and could compete with Islamic civilization in the East.

Abstract

In education process, the objective of test given to the students is to find out the change of attitude and also new skill that achieve by the students after teaching and learning process. Many times, test in students’ mind is a problem that cause test anxiety. The anxiety theory differentiates between cognitive component which is known as worry component and emotional component or affective component, as two components of test anxiety. Cognitive component or worry component administers mind that comes with anxiety such as test failure, and the consequence of the test failure is potential to cause the anger of parents, drop out, and also embarrassed feeling. Whereas the emotional component or affective component describes the physiological reaction and emotion that appear when students face the test. It’s important to note that most of people feel the anxiety when they have to prove their productivity. Test anxiety that encountered by people will be influenced by their ability to finish the test. Some researches prove that test anxiety can influence academic productivity, self-esteem, related to students’ self-defense and the fear of negative valuation. Hence, to anticipate the negative effect that caused by test anxiety, it is important to held anxiety management and learning skill.

Abstract

Formal education is the education which is developed at certain school or place systematically which has certain time sequence from Elementary to University level. Whereas the aspect of education life is one of the aspects in society that always develop and change to be more advance as the increasing of politic consciousness in society.This article concerns with the role of formal education to the aspects of politic life where the education is implemented based on the existing politic system by virtue of Pancasila (the five basic principles of the Republic of Indonesia) and UUD 1945, it means that politic determines the education policy. On the contrary, the existing politic system is determined by the education title owned by society where the higher education level of society will impact the consciousness to help forward the aspect of politic life in society. It is because formal education is one of media to socialize politic and great strategy to transfer the wide knowledge to the elite politic by giving training and also other facilities to build politic consciousness. It is the right moment to commit integration especially in terms of national politic consciousness.

Abstract

Learning media has demonstrated its superiority in helping educators or teachers in the process of conveying the message of learning more quickly and easily caught by the students. The media play a role in enriching the learning experience of students, increase their attention to the lesson, minimize differences in perception between teachers and students as well as to help resolve personal differences between students. The teaching Arabic to non-native speaker would be more interesting and easier to learn, remembered, understood and practiced by the students, if taught through the media. Abstract

The interesting teaching and learning of Malay languages is a challenging effort and need a relevant plan to the students’ needs especially for the foreign students who already have the basic Indonesian Malay language variation that they have learned for four semesters in their own country, Germany. Therefore, the variety of teaching and learning strategies should be considered by the teachers to make teaching and learning become interesting, effective and not boring. Basic effectiveness of a language program was the factors of socio-culture, the style of teaching and learning, the students, and the characteristics of the program. This paper however focused on the socio-cultural factors (learning of cultures) and the activities program that enable to generate excitement and effectiveness in the teaching and learning of Malay language as a foreign language. In the teaching and learning process found that the more we gave the activities to the students, the more the students acquired the meaning of the lessons. In this study, the selected respondents were the two groups of students from TWG, Konstanz, Germany who have followed the Malay Language and Culture Program in the Languages, Literacies and Translation Center, University of Sains Malaysia, Penang, in 2011. The first group was started in March to June, and the second group in September to November. The research was based on formal and informal observations and interviews. This paper also discussed about the outdoor activities program used as curriculum in the teaching and learning process that gives an interesting environment to foreign students

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the impact of mind mapping as a strategy in generating ideas before writing on the EFL students’ idea development in argumentative writing as perceived from their gender differences and learning styles. By conducting an experimental investigation at university level in Indonesia, two existing TOEFL classes at the State Islamic Studies (STAIN) in Kediri were selected by a lottery to group 1: using linear notes (N=41), and group 2: using mind mapping (N=41). For analyzing the data, Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were utilized by using students’ TOEFL score as the covariate variable. The result findings indicated that there is no significant difference on the students’ idea developments in writing between the control and the experimental groups. These result also revealed that there is no significant difference on the students’ idea development in writing between gender differences, and among the students’ learning styles. Furthermore, there is no significant interaction between treatment and gender differences, and there is no significant interaction between treatment and learning styles.
