Abstract

Abstract: Purpose – This study analyzes the synthesis of creative economy and religious moderation through a community-based waste management program in Matangaji Village, Cirebon. Employing a bio-anthropological framework, this research investigates how the practical activity of waste management functions as a fulcrum for community empowerment. The primary purpose is to dissect the process of transforming waste into valuable products and to understand how this collective economic endeavor becomes a practical venue for internalizing the values of religious moderation. Design/methods/approach – This research utilizes a qualitative method with a case study design. Data were gathered through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). Findings - The findings reveal that the program not only generates supplementary income through creative recycling but also establishes a social space where values such as cooperation (ta'awun), mutual respect (tasamuh), and environmental stewardship (hifzhu al-bi’ah) are actively practiced. The discussion argues that the tangible economic goal serves as a leverage point that necessitates and reinforces moderate social behaviors. Research Implications - This bio-anthropological analysis concludes that interventions in the physical-biological environment (waste management) are intrinsically linked to the fortification of socio-religious values (anthropological), positioning the program as an effective, replicable model for applied moderation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the development of zakat management in Muslim-majority countries, both in terms of collection and distribution. In addition, it aims to determine the renewal of zakat fiqh in Indonesia and digital-based zakat management. This study includes a literature review that discusses several previous studies related to the development and transformation of zakat management in the digital era using a qualitative approach. The inclusion keywords used to find relevant research themes are “Zakat Management in Islamic Countries,” “Renewal of Fiqh Zakat,” “Interpretation of the Meaning of Mustahik,” “Development of Zakat Objects,” “Determination of Professional Zakat,” “Reinterpretation of Ghārimīn, Sabīlillah, and Riqāb,” and “Digital-Based Zakat Management.” This mapping aims to build a strong theoretical foundation, identify research gaps, avoid duplication, and provide a comprehensive overview of the transformation of zakat management. The results of this study show that the development of zakat in several Islamic countries continues to transform over time, marked by the renewal of nisab and zakat rates, the establishment of zakat institutions, the development of zakat objects, and the expansion of zakat distribution for the public interest that contains values of goodness. The renewal of zakat fiqh in Indonesia is marked by the establishment of professional zakat and the obligation of zakat on paper money as part of the development of zakat objects. Meanwhile, the contextualization of the meaning of mustahik refers to the social conditions of Indonesian society in the modern era. Digital-based management is implemented to adapt to advances in technology and information, which have become a trend among the community. This kind of adaptation in zakat management must be recognized as part of social change. This study highlights the importance of renewing zakat fiqh and digital-based management in the era of society 5.0 for zakat institutions in Islamic countries.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the content and practice of Islamic multicultural education in Tenggeles Village through a focus on peaceful co-existence among Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) members and Wahidiyah Sholawat practitioners. A descriptive qualitative approach is used here through observation, indepth interviews among religious and community officials as well as documentations of religious activities as well as social activities. The results show that peaceful co-existence is made possible even amid ritual disparities as a result of strategic positioning of religious officials as facilitators of dialogue as well as tolerance builders through their own practice. Multicultural education within the village grows organically as part of daily activity such as recitation of Qur’an, tahlil as well as khatmil Qur’an that impart values of tolerance (tasamuh) and brotherhood (ukhuwah) in young people. Social cohesion is expressed through communal activities such as fund contributions to funeral ceremonies as well as support to orphans as well as commemorative activities of national significance. Tenggeles illustrates that controversies that revolve around Wahidiyah that are waged in parts of a country do not apply universally as a result of overwhelming impact a flexible and accommodative village-based socio-cultural setting provides to outright acceptance. This work contributes to “effective passive tolerance” as a hypothetical formulation that is defined as mutual regard of difference without requiring assimilation yet building strong social cooperation. As a result, Islamic multicultural education can organically internalize itself into community activity without depending on institutional frameworks.

Abstract

Religious diversity in Indonesia represents a social reality that can both enrich communal life and generate social tension and conflict. In response to these challenges, the Indonesian government has promoted religious moderation as a strategic framework to foster social harmony, particularly in interfaith relations. This study aims to describe the practice of religious moderation within the Sorogenen community in Yogyakarta and to analyze its relevance to the principles of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as a conceptual framework of Islamic law. This research employs an empirical legal method with a conceptual approach. Fieldwork was conducted over a two-week period and involved four key informants, consisting of one religious leader, one neighborhood head, and two community members. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using empirical legal analysis alongside an analytical framework of religious dialogue to interpret patterns of interreligious interaction. The findings indicate that the practice of religious moderation in the Sorogenen community is consistent with the fundamental principles of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, particularly the protection of religion (ḥifẓ al-dīn). This alignment is reflected in social behaviors that emphasize mutual respect among residents of different religious backgrounds, including interfaith cooperation to ensure security and the smooth conduct of worship activities during religious holidays. Religious dialogue within the community is characterized by an ethical and persuasive approach (mau‘iẓah ḥasanah), positioning religious outreach as a means of fostering peaceful coexistence rather than religious dominance. The originality of this study lies in its integration of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah with empirically observed practices of religious moderation through interfaith dialogue at the community level. Conceptually, this research contributes to the development of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as a normative framework for strengthening religious moderation and social harmony in pluralistic societies.

Abstract

This study analyzes QS. at-Taubah verse 122 through a tafsir tarbawi approach to identify its relevance to the objectives of Islamic education. Unlike previous studies that focused on partial aspects such as the obligation to seek knowledge or teacher professionalism, this research offers a comprehensive framework that interprets the verse as a conceptual foundation of Islamic education. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a library research design, the study examines classical and contemporary tafsir sources (At-Tabari, Al-Qurthubi, Ibn Katsir, Al-Maraghi, Al-Munir, Al-Azhar) and cross referencing them with modern Islamic education literature. Data were thematically analyzed to identifytarbawi values that inform the purpose and direction of Islamic education. The findings identify five main pillars of Islamic educational goals: (1) specialization of knowledge (thaifah), (2) deep understanding of religion (tafaqquh fid-din), (3) social responsibility (tandzir), (4) moral and behavioral transformation (tahdzir), and (5) intergenerational knowledge transmission. These pillars establish an integrated and transformative vision of Islamic education system that harmonizes cognitive, moral, and spiritual dimensions. The findings offer a fresh interpretive contribution to contemporary discussions on Islamic educational objectives and their alignment with concepts such as lifelong learning and character education.
