Abstract

The modern aviation industry is undergoing a significant transformation toward digitalized aviation systems, predictive maintenance, aviation safety, and integrated logistics management. This study aims to analyze the leverage factors in aircraft component management based on the integration of aviation technology, safety systems, reliability engineering, and the digital maintenance ecosystem. The research employs a descriptive-qualitative approach through literature review, visual framework analysis, and system integration analysis. The results indicate that the primary leverage lies in the multidisciplinary integration of industrial engineering, aviation maintenance, safety management systems, reliability engineering, and digital aviation systems. This approach produces learning and research models that are more adaptive to the needs of the modern aviation industry compared to conventional industrial engineering programs. The integration of maintenance engineering, aviation logistics, predictive maintenance, component traceability systems, and smart aviation ecosystems can enhance the relevance of research to the needs of airlines, maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) industries, aviation regulators, and the global aerospace industry.

Abstract

Every manufacturing company such as PT. XYZ always wants effective and efficient production activities, poor facility layout can result in several problems that can later disrupt production activities in manufacturing companies. This study aims to redesign the layout of production facilities and minimize transportation time and identify the causes of production obstacles. The existing layout is analyzed using the Activity Relationship Chart (ARC) and Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD) methods to determine the level of importance between work stations followed by calculating the standard time of each Bomb P-500 Practice production process to determine the transportationtimeintheprocesswithresearchvalidationusing flexsimsimulation.TheresultsoftheActivityRelationshipChart (ARC) and Activity Relationship Diagram (ARD) analysis produced a proposed layout with a more effective and efficient travel distance and transportation time when compared to the initial layout with a comparison that the travel distance of the proposedlayoutis53.2%shorterwithadistancereductionof191 metersandthetotaltransportationtimeoftheproposedlayoutis 53.4% faster with a transportation time reduction of 28.01 minutes while in the simulation conducted the travel distance of theproposedlayoutis32.3%shorterwitha distancereductionof 82.03meters.

Abstract

The waste quantity indicator on the Boeing 737 NG attendant panel plays a vital role in providing information regarding the waste tank volume during flight. In practice, however, data discrepancies frequently occur. This condition can trigger unnecessary technical reports, disrupt operational efficiency, and increase aircraft maintenance costs. The results of the study indicate that there are four main failure pathways: damage to the point level sensor, continuous level sensor, logic control module (LCM), and the connection on the Attendant Control Panel (ACP). Out of the 16 analyzed defect data, 43.75% were caused by point level sensor failures. The breakdown of the FTA structure generated eight Minimum Cut Sets (MCS) as triggers for the Top Event. These findings serve as a basis for developing inspection strategies and preventive maintenance to enhance the reliability of the aircraft waste indicator system

Abstract

Accurate forecasting of air passenger demand is critical for aviation sector planning, yet model selection remains contested when data exhibit structural discontinuities and segment-specific behavior. This study benchmarks four forecasting approaches—SARIMA, SARIMAX, Prophet, and XGBoost—on monthly domestic and international passenger traffic data from 2019 to 2024, using a 12-month hold-out test set and a 36-month projection horizon. Model performance was evaluated using MAE, RMSE, and MAPE, with stationarity confirmed via Augmented Dickey-Fuller tests. Results reveal stark segmentation in model suitability. For international passengers, SARIMA achieved the lowest test MAPE (8.66%), substantially outperforming XGBoost (14.23%) and Prophet (57.65%), attributable to the strong first-order autocorrelation structure of post-recovery international traffic. For domestic passengers, SARIMA and SARIMAX both exhibited explosive forecast divergence (MAPE exceeding 11,900%), rendering them operationally unusable; XGBoost (MAPE 14.87%) emerged as the most reliable alternative by capturing non-linear interactions among lag features, rolling statistics, and annual trend components. The central finding concerns the role of exogenous variables: SARIMAX produced metrics identical to SARIMA for international passengers and marginally worse for domestic passengers, yielding no incremental predictive gain in either segment. This challenges the assumption that exogenous augmentation inherently improves seasonal time series models—such benefits are conditional on the relevance, stability, and non-redundancy of external regressors relative to existing seasonal components. These findings offer empirical guidance for segment-specific model selection in aviation demand forecasting and caution against uncritical adoption of SARIMAX when core seasonal structure is already sufficient.

Abstract

Abaca fiber is a natural reinforcement material with considerable potential for environmentally friendly and lightweight structural applications. This study aims to investigate the effect of fiber orientation (0° and 90°) on the tensile properties of abaca fiber-reinforced epoxy composites. The composites were fabricated using the hand lay-up method followed by vacuum bagging, with a fiber-to-matrix volume fraction of 50:50. Tensile testing was conducted in accordance with ASTM D3039 standards using a Universal Testing Machine (UTM).The results indicate that fiber orientation has a substantial influence on the mechanical performance of the composites. Specimens with a 0° fiber orientation exhibited a significantly higher average tensile strength of 102.51 MPa and an elastic modulus of 889.30 MPa. In contrast, specimens with a 90° orientation showed much lower values, with an average tensile strength of 4.97 MPa and an elastic modulus of 77.18 MPa. This difference is attributed to the alignment of fibers parallel to the loading direction in the 0° orientation, allowing efficient load transfer through the fibers. Meanwhile, the 90° orientation relies primarily on the matrix and fiber–matrix interface to resist tensile loading.Failure analysis revealed that the 0° specimens were dominated by fiber breakage and delamination, whereas the 90° specimens exhibited matrix-dominated failure mechanisms such as matrix cracking and interfacial debonding. In addition, the stress–strain curve characteristics confirmed that specimens with a 0° orientation possessed higher stiffness and lower deformation than those with a 90° orientation. These findings highlight the critical role of fiber orientation in determining the tensile performance of natural fiber-reinforced composites and confirm that fiber alignment parallel to the loading direction provides superior mechanical properties. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of sustainable composite materials for lightweight structural applications, particularly in aerospace engineering and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) structures.

Abstract

This study presents the design, simulation, fabrication, and experimental validation of a Savonius Helix vertical axis wind turbine optimized for low wind regimes in Cilacap, Indonesia. Wind data from NASA POWER were analyzed at two locations, revealing dominant low wind conditions with notable temporal variability. The turbine geometry was optimized based on aerodynamic and inertial parameters, followed by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to evaluate torque, pressure distribution, and power coefficient across four configurations (2B90P, 2B180P, 3B90P, 3B180P). The optimal design was fabricated using fiberglass and tested under no-load and loaded conditions with a Permanent Magnet DC generator. Results indicate strong agreement between CFD trends and experimental performance, despite deviations caused by mechanical losses and atmospheric turbulence. Overall, the Savonius Helix configuration demonstrates effective energy capture capability in low wind environments, confirming its feasibility for small-scale renewable energy applications.
