Abstract

Based on the results of observations to students, it was found that cheating is an entrenched habit among students. This is not in line with the efforts made to avoid cheating, including by preparing to study before the exam to understand the material better. This study aims to determine the effect of cheating culture on students, as an implementation of state defence. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method with the type of survey research. Conclusions are made through the analysis of questionnaires from respondents. The data sources are taken from 3rd-semester students. The sample is determined by using random sampling, the student population is 150 students which is divided into 7 engineering and non-engineering students. The result of this study shows that 87.8% of students had cheated with the factors of lack of self-confidence and fear of bad grades. Then, 99% of students stated that honesty is one of the behaviours that can reduce the cheating habit. Honesty is considered as a form of state defence implementation at Jakarta State Polytechnic students which must be carried out consistently, as the goal of forming national character can be achieved as an effort to face challenges in the future.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the role of the Bandung City Regional General Election Commission with its role in improving the political culture of community participants in the city of Bandung. This is mainly in facing the 2018 Bandung Mayor election. This research is a descriptive study that was analysed in several ways, namely data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The approach is done qualitatively, while the data collection technique is done by interview and observation. The participants selected in this study were the Regional General Election Commission of the City of Bandung (1 person) and the people of the City of Bandung (7 people). The results of this study indicate that the Bandung City Regional General Elections Commission in improving the political culture of participants with political education carried out various elements in the implementation of the Bandung City Regional Head election in 2018 it is known that the political participation of the community experienced significant growth and far exceeded the target set. The number of voter participants in the city of Bandung in the simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) in 2018 has increased compared to the last 5 (five) elections. The results also show that the increasing number of voter participants in the city of Bandung is inseparable from the cooperation of the Bandung City Regional Election Commission with various parties, both community organizations, policymakers, and other organizations in the city of Bandung. In the future, the political participation of the people of Bandung must always be maintained by involving various elements and innovations that adapt to changes and developments in society.

Abstract

This study generally aims at examining any factors that cause the college students still find difficulties in learning English and if there are any bad things experienced by the students from their teachers. The problems in this study are: 1) What are the influences that cause the English students still find English lesson difficult to understand English even though they have learned English for more than 10 years? 2) Did the English students have any bad experiences from their English teachers in the classroom which cause them have difficulties in understanding English lessons? The method used by researchers in this study is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The tools used in this study were video recorders and open-ended questions sheets. The primary data in this study is the respondents' answers to some questions delivered to them in the interview session. The respondents are the first-year students of batch 2018 at Gunadarma University located in Bekasi, West Java province. The researcher randomly selected 400 students who were studying English 1 and English 2 subject. It is found that the factors that cause the English learners still find some difficulties in learning English are caused by both internal and external factors. This study also revealed that some students had some bad experiences from their English teachers as long as they have studied English since they started learning English in kindergarten or primary school.

Abstract

It is indisputable that globalization provides a vast space for various aspects of the world to continue developing and connecting. Through this, culture, as one of the aspects most affected by the times and technological advances, is the main focus of hegemonic companies such as Hollywood to expand their work, especially in cinema. This paper attempts to explain the impact of globalization on cultural hegemony in Asian countries due to the widespread influence of the film industry from Hollywood, especially the LGBTQ+ genre. The film industry in Asia has undergone many transformations over time since the impact of Hollywood's hegemony. Asia itself is a country that carries a very different culture from Western culture. This paper then explains this phenomenon using a qualitative research method based on observation of case studies per country, such as Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia. Through this method, this paper has concluded how the influence of American Culture through its film industry as a form of dominant culture has affected the film industry in Asia (Japan, Korea, and Indonesia). Thus, providing arguments of similarities in the elements of LGBTQ+ by films produced by Hollywood and the film industry in Asia.

Abstract

Vocabulary has become an essential element for students to communicate with others. This research intended to analyze students’ vocabulary mastery after being exposed to the Tic Tac Toe game as a learning medium. The total number of the class is 17 students of fifth-grade students of SD Dana Punia Singaraja in the 2021/2022 academic year. This research used quasi-experimental research in one group pre-test post-test design. The researcher took the accurate data during six meetings of implementation. Tic Tac Toe game used as a strategy with the familiar nine grid of Tic Tac Toe board. It used a vocabulary test with multiple-choice as an instrument. The vocabulary mastery was improved from 65.00 to 79.12 in the mean score. Besides, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Levelene Statistic test results revealed that the test result was normally distributed and homogeny. Furthermore, the effect size was showing this game has a strong effect. As a result, Tic Tac Toe game had significantly affect students’ English vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This article reports the effectiveness of online teaching and learning in a polytechnic institution. The online teaching and learning during the Covid19 pandemic have made a challenging situation. Moreover, the subjects or courses at Polman Bandung consist of the Theory course (e.g., Maths, English, Strength of Materials) and Practice course (e.g., Technical Drawing, CNC Machine practical program, Bench-work). What happens in the online classroom and its effectiveness should be known and considered by its academic officer. In general, the target to be achieved in this study is to provide an overview of online learning and measure online learning effectiveness in 2020. The research method used is a descriptive study. Data collection was done by distributing questionnaires to the third-grade students who have had or are currently implementing online learning in Theory and Practice courses. There were 231 questionnaire data collected. Besides, semi-structured interviews with students and lecturers were also carried out. The study results show that the teaching and learning effectivity carried online were scored in 3.25 by students (scale 1- 4), meaning it is still inadequate performance. Both Theory and Practice courses were challenging for students and lecturers, but the practice was considered more challenging. Some departments could not hold Practice courses entirely online due to the laboratory tools and machines needed. Therefore, it is recommended that the lecturer improve their online teaching skills and interact more with students in the Theory course and Practice course. The students should better communicate with the lecturers and, most importantly, handle significant learning challenges. Then, the institution should make a better system and program to help the lecturer to teach online.

Abstract

Changes in organizational culture within the scope of universities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic are the focus of this study. Currently, there are 2 choices of work arrangement, namely: Work from Home (WFH), and working offline at the workplace. As such, changes in the values ​​adopted by members of the organization or in organizational culture are expected. This study focuses on the influence of organizational culture in universities on the performance of organizational members who are lecturers, teaching staff, and other elements. Each member of the organization has a different view and ways of responding to the reality of changing organizational culture during this COVID-19 pandemic. Differences in roles in the organization can be a factor in the differing opinion. A lecturer during the WFH period must carry out teaching and learning activities and conduct online meetings. While other staff who take care of administration are faced with different kinds of online work. Consequently, these staff from different roles may have a different view. This study aims at understanding how organizational culture in universities today can affect the performance of organizational members in the post-COVID-19 pandemic and other elements. The result shows that universities are organizations that have been heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.  It has transformed their culture from various directions, from academic activities, administrative, up to the social value order.

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the strategy and activities in the teaching and learning process during the pandemic in Aura Sukma Insani Kindergarten and to investigate the teachers’ problems during the process of teaching English to Young Learners during the pandemic. This research used a descriptive qualitative method, i.e., case study. The research data are derived from observation, interview, documentation, and document analysis. The subject of this research was 3 classes (with 18-21 students each class) in B level (age 5-7). The interview is semi-structured with three teachers and a school principal as informants. The theory used in this research is the teaching and learning theory from Brown (2001). This study concluded that Aura Sukma Insani Kindergarten applied blended learning and applied both synchronous and asynchronous modes of learning during pandemics. Besides, to support the teaching and learning process, the school has a special program namely, orientation and induction programs, and reflection and follow-up program. In addition, the problems of teachers are mainly about the adaptation, emotional bonding, limited time allotment, students’ mood and focus, students’ social skill and characters, teachers’ preparation, parents’ involvement, lack of facilities and technical skill and cost. The results of this study have important implications for classroom practice as it can be used as a resource and as the foundation for more detailed information strategy of the teaching and learning process during the pandemic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is firstly to know and describe how the diaspora Alumni of the Japanese Literature Study Program of Universitas Bung Hatta live in Japan. Then, secondly, the purpose of this study is to know whether the language and culture that they studied at the University are useful in their life in Japan. The formulation of the problems that want to be studied is the impression felt when first arriving in Japan, the related learning of Japanese language and culture in living life in Japan, and what kind of living life by diaspora alumni of Japanese literature Minang ethnic in Japan. The methods used in this study are qualitative descriptive utilising questionnaires and structured interviews. The number of identified respondents is 29. The questionnaires were constructed in Google Forms, distributed through social media: WhatsApp. The data were then analysed using interpretative descriptive models. The analysis suggested that the obstacles experienced by Japanese Literature alumni from Minang ethnic diaspora in Japan when they first arrived in Japan were language and food. This is due to their lack of training in using Japanese when they were in college, and as ethnic Minangs, they cannot escape the taste of Minang cuisine. While related to the learning of Japanese language and culture, the material that has been given is felt quite helpful and quite used in, as well as the Japanese language that the diaspora uses, during living life in Japan, the Minang ethnic diaspora cannot be separated from consuming Indonesian cuisine or food, because this is also supported by the ease of obtaining Indonesian food and cuisine.  This study finding is expected to add insight into the life of the Indonesian diaspora in Japan and can be a reference for further research related to the Indonesian diaspora.

Abstract

The issue of quality is a critical issue for Polytechnics in Indonesia because of the increasing demands of society on institutional performance, therefore Universities need quality assurance as a measure to assess their success or failure. In this context, the role of leadership in every organization is very dominant in developing and increasing the competitiveness of the organization. This study aims to examine the implementation of the system and formulate a management synchronization strategy between ISO 9001:2015 and SPMI to support SPME BAN-PT. This research uses the desk research method. This research method consists of three main stages, namely the standard interpretation stage, the analysis stage and the standard integration stage. The results of this study indicate that in compiling the synchronization of the ISO 9001:2015 and SPMI systems. From the conformity table of the Integration Structure of QMS ISO 9001:2015 and SPMI, it can be seen that the requirements of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and SPMI complement each other, following the requirements of the Higher Education accreditation criteria set by BAN-PT. With an integrated quality management system and consistently applied by Polman Bandung management, as a leader in this organization will increase the effectiveness in achieving institutional excellence, increase competitiveness and ensure sustainability in facing challenges and increasingly fierce competition in the world of education, both nationally and internationally.
