Abstract

The rapid expansion of the coffee shop industry in Yogyakarta has been accompanied by a shift in business orientation from efficiency-driven coffee-to-go outlets to experience-oriented slow-bar coffee shops, creating distinct patterns in customer loyalty formation. This study aims to compare how brand experience, customer service perception, and customer price perception influence customer loyalty, with trust and satisfaction acting as mediating variables across the two coffee shop models. A quantitative research design was applied using survey data collected from 240 coffee shop customers in Yogyakarta. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and supported by Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) to identify differences between coffee-to-go and slow bar segments. The findings reveal that the mechanisms underlying loyalty formation vary significantly between the two models. In coffee-to-go shops, customer price perception and service perception have a stronger impact on satisfaction and loyalty, whereas in slow bar coffee shops, brand experience and trust play a more prominent role. Trust and satisfaction are empirically validated as significant mediating variables in both contexts. These results indicate that different business models require distinct strategic approaches to effectively strengthen customer loyalty.

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the principal’s leadership management strategy in improving the performance quality of educators and educational staff at State Elementary School 09, Bongan District, West Kutai Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The research focuses on the principal’s leadership management functions, including planning, organising, implementing, and supervising, as well as the performance quality of educators and educational staff, viewed from the aspects of work quality, quantity, timeliness, effectiveness, and independence. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation using purposive sampling involving the principal, teachers, and educational staff. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that the principal’s leadership management strategy has been implemented in a structured manner, although it has not yet been fully optimised. This condition is influenced by less systematic planning, suboptimal task organisation, and limited human resources and facilities. Nevertheless, the performance quality of educators and educational staff shows positive trends, particularly in work quality, effectiveness, and independence. Supporting factors include strengthening the principal’s leadership competence and professional development, while inhibiting factors include limited resources and challenges in communication and coordination.

Abstract

The limited mastery of Indonesian vocabulary among foreign speakers is a major obstacle in the learning process of Bahasa Indonesia for Foreign Speakers (BIPA). This research aims to improve Indonesian vocabulary mastery of foreign-speaking students through the application of interactive visual media at Nida Suksasat School, Thailand. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method using the Kemmis and McTaggart cycle model, comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 32 foreign-speaking students participating in Indonesian language learning. The research was conducted in two cycles following a pre-cycle stage to identify students’ initial vocabulary mastery. Data were collected through vocabulary tests, classroom observations, and learning documentation, and analysed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, with learning completeness increasing from 31.25% in the pre-cycle to 62.5% in the first cycle and reaching 87.5% in the second cycle. In addition, the use of interactive visual media positively affected students’ motivation and active participation in learning. Therefore, the application of interactive visual media is effective and feasible as a learning strategy to improve Indonesian vocabulary mastery for foreign speakers.

Abstract

Low mastery of Indonesian vocabulary among foreign-speaking students, characterised by achievement scores below the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM), low student participation, and the dominance of teacher-centred instructional methods, remains a major challenge in Indonesian language learning. This research aims to improve the Indonesian vocabulary skills of Grade IX students at Darul U-Loom School, Satun, Thailand, through the application of the Total Physical Response (TPR) model. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method using the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral design, comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 25 Grade IX students. The study was conducted through three stages: pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II. Data were collected through vocabulary tests, classroom observations, interviews, and documentation, and analysed using descriptive statistics and N-Gain analysis to measure the level of improvement in students’ vocabulary skills. The results revealed a significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery, as indicated by the increase in average scores from 56.40 in the pre-cycle to 67.20 in cycle I and 78.60 in cycle II. Learning completeness also improved from 36% to 88%, while the N-Gain analysis showed an increase from low (0.25) to medium (0.51). These findings indicate that the TPR model is effective in improving Indonesian vocabulary mastery and fostering more active, enjoyable, and meaningful learning for foreign-speaking students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the role of clan identity in shaping the political preferences and orientations of the Mandailing community in the 2024 Regional Head Elections. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research informants consist of traditional leaders, religious leaders, youth figures, women, and the general public from various clans in Simangambat District. The results of the study indicate that clan identity continues to function as strong social and cultural capital in building solidarity, social legitimacy, and political loyalty. Regional head candidates use clan networks, participation in traditional activities, and cultural symbols and narratives as electoral strategies. However, there has been a shift in political orientation among young people and the educated community, who are beginning to prioritise rational considerations such as candidates' integrity, vision, and work programs. This study confirms that Mandailing local politics is in a transitional phase, moving from the dominance of genealogical identity politics to more rational political participation within the framework of modern democracy.

Abstract

This study evaluates the implementation of the Digital Smart Classroom program at MAN 3 Palembang using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The research is driven by the disparity between rapid technological infrastructure expansion and educators' actual pedagogical readiness. Employing a qualitative-dominant mixed-methods approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 18 key informants, participatory observations, and questionnaires distributed to 72 respondents. The findings reveal that while the Context and Input phases show strong institutional alignment and infrastructure readiness (score 3.70–3.90), teacher digital pedagogical competence remains a critical bottleneck (score 3.60). Process evaluation indicates that digital transformation has successfully fostered an active learning environment (score 4.05), although it is frequently hindered by network stability issues (score 3.45). Ultimately, the Product evaluation demonstrates that the program significantly enhances student motivation and satisfaction, placing it in the "Very Good" category (score 4.21). The study concludes that successful digital transformation in madrasahs necessitates a strategic shift from hardware-oriented procurement to sustainable human resource development, with a focus on innovative digital pedagogical strategies.

Abstract

Preserving local culture in elementary education faces challenges due to limited integration of traditional arts into formal classroom instruction. Sundanese pupuh, as a form of oral literature rich in cultural and character values, requires active transmission through educational practices to remain sustainable. This study aims to examine the role of teachers in preserving Sundanese pupuh through Art and Culture learning in a Grade V elementary classroom. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. The research was conducted at an elementary school in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, involving a Grade V teacher as the primary participant. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of Art and Culture learning activities. Data analysis followed an interactive model consisting of data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Sundanese pupuh was integrated into classroom learning through structured activities, including the introduction of pupuh types, explanation of lyrical meanings, and guided practice. Teachers played a key role as cultural mediators by facilitating learning, motivating students, and integrating cultural and character values. Student engagement in pupuh learning was generally positive and supported cultural awareness and character development. This study is limited by its focus on a single school context and the absence of long-term analysis of students’ cultural identity development. The findings suggest that strengthening teacher competence and providing institutional support are essential for sustaining local culture-based learning in elementary education.
