Abstract

The implementation of the Local Cultural Curriculum in Lembata Regency has not been comprehensively evaluated, despite its formal mandate under Lembata Regent Regulation No. 77 of 2022. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Local Cultural Curriculum of Lembata by examining the policy formulation process, curriculum implementation in instructional practice, and evaluation mechanisms at the school level using Anderson’s Evaluation Model. This research employed a qualitative case study design, using SMP Negeri 2 Nubatukan and SMP Negeri Satu Atap 92 Bean as research sites. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation, while data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results show that the policy formulation process involved relevant stakeholders and reflected the objective of cultural preservation, although documentation of the process remains limited. Curriculum implementation has begun in schools; however, it faces challenges, including limited learning resources, uneven teacher competencies, and insufficient technical support from the local government. In addition, evaluation mechanisms have not been optimally implemented due to the absence of a structured monitoring and supervision system from the Education Office. Overall, the implementation of the Local Cultural Curriculum demonstrates initial positive progress but requires strengthened resources, systematic supervision, and continuous evaluation to achieve its cultural preservation objectives through formal education effectively.

Abstract

This study addresses the high prevalence of psychological distress among university students in Indonesia and the limited empirical evidence regarding protective psychological resources within a religious–cultural context. The objective of this research is to examine the relationship between spiritual well-being and psychological distress, including its core dimensions of depression, anxiety, and stress. A quantitative approach was employed using a cross-sectional correlational design. Data were collected from 327 undergraduate students via an online survey using the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The data were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation technique. The findings demonstrate a strong and statistically significant negative relationship between spiritual well-being and overall psychological distress (ρ = −0.662), indicating that higher spiritual well-being is associated with lower levels of psychological distress. Further analysis revealed that spiritual well-being was most strongly related to depression (ρ = −0.715), followed by anxiety (ρ = −0.618) and stress (ρ = −0.476). These results confirm the role of spiritual well-being as a significant protective factor against psychological distress among Indonesian university students.

Abstract

This study addresses the problem of limited software operation skills among junior high school students and the need for learning strategies that simultaneously enhance technical competence and learner confidence. The objective of this research is to examine the effect of gamification-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and students’ self-efficacy levels on software operation skills in Informatics learning. A quasi-experimental method with a posttest-only control group design and a 2×2 factorial arrangement was used, with an experimental group receiving gamified PjBL and a control group receiving non-gamified PjBL. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA to identify the effects of learning strategy, self-efficacy, and their interaction on students’ performance. The findings show that students who learned through gamified PjBL demonstrated higher software operation skills than those who experienced PjBL without gamification. The results also reveal a substantial difference in performance between students with high and low self-efficacy, indicating that confidence plays a crucial role in mastering digital technical skills. Although no statistically significant interaction was found between learning strategy and self-efficacy, descriptive analysis suggests that gamification provides greater benefits for students with low self-efficacy by helping reduce skill gaps. Overall, this study confirms that integrating gamification into PjBL effectively improves software operation skills, while reinforcing the importance of strengthening self-efficacy in technology-based learning environments.

Abstract

Despite growing interest in authentic assessment as a learner-centered approach in English language teaching, empirical findings on its effectiveness in improving students’ English learning outcomes remain inconsistent across contexts and assessment types. The absence of synthesized evidence makes it challenging for educators and policymakers to draw firm conclusions about its overall impact. Therefore, this study aims to systematically examine the effect of authentic assessment on students’ English learning outcomes using a meta-analytic approach. This study employed a quantitative meta-analysis by synthesizing data from 25 empirical studies published between 2015 and 2025. The studies were retrieved from Google Scholar using the Publish or Perish application and selected based on predefined inclusion criteria. Effect sizes were calculated using Hedges’ g, and a Random Effects Model was applied to estimate the pooled effect size while accounting for between-study variability. The results reveal a statistically significant positive effect of authentic assessment on students’ English learning outcomes, with a pooled effect size of g = 1.203 (z = 5.54, p < .001). Substantial heterogeneity was observed, justifying the use of the random-effects model. Funnel plot analysis indicates no serious publication bias. Overall, the findings confirm that authentic assessment has a strong and meaningful influence on English learning outcomes and supports its integration into English language teaching practices.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental component of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning; however, preliminary observations at SMP Negeri 16 Palu revealed that many eighth-grade students still have limited vocabulary. Students experienced difficulties in understanding word meanings, identifying word classes, and using vocabulary appropriately in simple sentences, which negatively affected their participation, confidence, and comprehension in English learning. Therefore, this study aimed to find out the effectiveness of educational videos in improving students’ vocabulary mastery. This study employed a quantitative, quasi-experimental research design. The population consisted of 129 eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu in the 2024/2025 academic year. The samples were class VIII C as the experimental group and class VIII E as the control group. The research instruments were vocabulary tests administered as pre- and post-tests, focusing on nouns, verbs, and adjectives. The collected data were analysed using a normality test, a homogeneity test, and an independent-samples t-test in SPSS version 24. The findings indicated that the experimental group achieved a higher mean post-test score (70.27) compared to the control group (58.93). The result of the independent samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.001, which was lower than 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. These results demonstrate that the use of educational videos, particularly animated videos, effectively improves students’ vocabulary mastery.

Abstract

This research addresses the need to understand student preferences in leadership seminar design at Esa Unggul University and aims to identify the seminar attributes that most strongly influence participation decisions. A quantitative approach was applied using Conjoint Analysis, involving 100 active students from various study programs who are members of the Student Executive Board (BEM). Data were gathered through structured questionnaires and analyzed to estimate utility scores and relative importance values across five attributes: seminar topic, speaker, delivery format, participation cost, and benefits. The findings show that students favor seminars on Leadership and Entrepreneurship, delivered by expert lecturers, implemented in a hybrid format, priced between IDR 20,000 and 50,000, and offering certificates combined with SKP or competency recognition. Importance value analysis indicates that speaker credibility, cost considerations, and topic relevance are the dominant factors shaping student preferences. Model validation results demonstrate strong predictive accuracy, with a Pearson correlation of 0.815 and Kendall’s tau of 0.407, both statistically significant. These results provide an empirical basis for universities and event organizers to develop leadership seminars that better align with student expectations, thereby improving engagement and program effectiveness.
