Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between clean water usage and the percentage of diarrhea incidence in the community of Indra Jaya, Aceh Jaya Sub-district, Surabaya. The study focuses on the primary water sources used by residents, environmental sanitation conditions, and household water treatment practices. The research employed data collection through questionnaires and observations, alongside statistical analysis to assess the relationship between water sources and the incidence of diarrhea. The results indicate that the majority of respondents use river and well water as their main water source, with a 53.3% incidence of diarrhea. Statistical analysis reveals a significant correlation between poor water sources and a high percentage of diarrhea incidence. Environmental sanitation conditions, particularly the practice of personal hygiene (bathing, washing, toileting), also influence the risk of diarrhea, especially for those using river water. The importance of household water treatment, such as boiling, as an effective measure to prevent diarrhea, is highlighted in this research. Additionally, the study underscores the role of increasing community awareness regarding the cleanliness of water sources and environmental sanitation in reducing the risk of diarrhea. To decrease the incidence of diarrhea, preventive measures involving the government and healthcare professionals are recommended, including improving community access to safety water and conducting routine sanitation inspections to ensure the safety of water sources.

Abstract

This quantitative descriptive study aimed to characterize diabetes mellitus (DM) cases in Alue Tho Village, Krueng Sabe Subdistrict, Aceh Jaya Regency. A sample of 75 out of 108 families was surveyed over one month to assess community health, including Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) behaviors, associated factors, and potential intervention strategies. Data collection involved structured interviews and questionnaires, ensuring respondent confidentiality. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) behaviors and compare characteristics of individuals with and without DM. The age group of 41-50 years constituted the largest proportion in both groups. Identified health factors such as hypertension, smoking, diet, physical activity, cholesterol, stroke, and heart disease provide valuable insights for developing effective DM management programs in the region. The surveillance of DM cases in Krueng Sabe Subdistrict, Aceh Jaya District, reveals that the demographic distribution of DM is significantly influenced by age and gender. The highest prevalence of DM cases is observed in the 51-60 age group. Despite low proportions of risk factors like smoking and high cholesterol levels, the respondents showed an awareness of healthy living through their vegetable/fruit consumption and participation in physical activities. Notably, no cases of stroke or heart disease were reported among the DM respondents in this surveillance.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct non-communicable disease surveillance with a focus on the relationship between the level of knowledge about diabetes mellitus and age level in Kuta Tuha Village, Panga District, Aceh Jaya Regency. Diabetes mellitus is one of the non-communicable diseases whose prevalence continues to increase in various regions, including in Indonesia. Adequate knowledge of the disease is essential for effective prevention and management. This study involved the entire population of Kuta Tuha Village consisting of 107 households, with the study period lasting for one month, from December 21, 2023 to January 10, 2024. Data were collected through a questionnaire designed to evaluate respondents' level of knowledge regarding diabetes mellitus and identify age as an important variable in understanding. The results of univariate analysis showed that the majority of respondents in this study were male (82.2%). The most common age group was 48-50 years old, which accounted for 50.5% of the total respondents. Despite previous socialization efforts regarding diabetes, there were still 17.8% of the population suffering from diabetes mellitus. It is recommended that health education programs be improved, with a more specific and sustainable approach, especially targeting the 48-50 years age group. This could include regular counseling, distribution of easy-to-understand educational materials, and establishment of support groups for people with diabetes and their families. Overall, this study provides important insights into the relationship between knowledge of diabetes mellitus and age, and emphasizes the importance of ongoing health education to improve public understanding of non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

Childbirth is an important event that is always remembered in a woman's life. The choice of place of delivery will have an impact on the health of the birthing mother. Even though it is supported by good facilities and health workers, it is still found that births are carried out by health workers at home, this happened in Krueng Tho Village, Aceh Jaya Regency. The aim of this research is to analyze the level of knowledge of pregnant women and the attitudes taken in choosing a place of delivery in Krueng Tho Village, Darul Hikmah District, Aceh Jaya Regency. The sample in this study was part of pregnant women in 2011 and 2023. This research is a quantitative type with descriptive analytical methods. Determining the sample size in this study was calculated using a formula of 150 people. The sampling technique uses total sampling. Factors that influence the choice of place and delivery assistance include level of knowledge, income level, attitude, level of education, family support, distance to health facilities and age factors. It is hoped that this research can provide advice for health workers to pay more attention to pregnant women and women giving birth, especially in terms of choosing a place of birth and birth assistance, namely the need to increase attention to health service programs through socializing childbirth in health facilities.

Abstract

Handwashing with soap is a sanitation measure involving the cleaning of hands and fingers using water and soap to remove germs and interrupt their transmission. This practice is essential as hands frequently act as vectors for pathogens, transferring germs through direct or indirect contact. This research adopts a quantitative approach. The study population comprised all sixth-grade elementary school students, totaling 54 individuals. The sampling technique employed was purposive sampling, with the sample criteria being sixth-grade elementary school students. The study's findings indicate a significant relationship between knowledge factors and handwashing with soap behavior (0.028 < 0.05) and between attitude factors and handwashing with soap behavior (0.040 < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that both knowledge and attitude significantly influence handwashing behavior. This finding underscores the importance of promoting proper handwashing practices, particularly among children who are often engaged in activities that expose them to various germs. Diseases such as respiratory infections, worm infections, and diarrhea can be effectively prevented through proper handwashing with soap. Therefore, it is recommended that elementary school students in the Jaya sub-district adopt the recommended handwashing practices.

Abstract

Stunting is a significant nutritional challenge among toddlers worldwide. One government strategy to address stunting and improve public health, particularly for children, is the Family Hope Program (PKH). Introduced in 2007, PKH is a conditional social assistance program targeting Extremely Poor Households (EPHs). This program provides cash assistance to pregnant women, toddlers, preschoolers, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach to provide an in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the situation and phenomenon under study. Findings indicate that program participants receive PKH assistance for various health-related needs, including prenatal care for pregnant women and educational support for school-aged children. Additionally, assistance is provided to the elderly and disabled. It is recommended that the government enhance preventive measures for the community, especially for residents in remote areas and individuals with limited understanding of health's importance.
