Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Quizlet, an online learning tool, in improving Chinese vocabulary mastery among high school students. Quizlet, designed as a flashcard game, offers an interactive approach to vocabulary learning, particularly in foreign languages, aiming to make the process both enjoyable and effective in capturing students' interest. The research aims to assess students' Chinese vocabulary mastery levels before and after using Quizlet and evaluate the effectiveness of this educational media. Employing a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design, the study involves 22 students from class X Lintas Minat 1 Bahasa Mandarin at State High School 1 Batu as the sample population. A pretest was administered to assess baseline proficiency, followed by treatment using Quizlet, and a posttest to evaluate improvement. Data analysis utilized the n gain formula. Findings indicate a significant improvement in Chinese vocabulary mastery, specifically in the topic of measure words or 量词 [liàngcí]. The pretest score averaged 74.90, while the posttest score rose to 90.86, reflecting a substantial increase of 15.96 points after Quizlet implementation. The study concludes that Quizlet is an effective tool for enhancing Chinese vocabulary learning among students in class X Lintas Minat 1 Bahasa Mandarin at State High School 1 Batu, highlighting its potential as a valuable resource in language education.

Abstract

Gender inequality is a serious problem in the world that gives rise to feminist thought. Mass media such as series represent the reality of life to convey messages such as the issue of feminism. The Queen's Gambit is a series that tells the story of Beth Harmon, an intelligent woman who takes part in a chess match between men. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the collection of observational data as primary data, interviews and documentation as secondary data. This study uses John Fiske's semiotic analysis by analyzing reality and representation to get the ideology of feminism in the main character of this series. The results of the study there are five scenes that represent feminism. The results of this study indicate the reality code in this series through appearance, costume, make-up, behavior, environment, speech, gesture, and facial expressions. Code representation such as camera, lighting, editing, music, sound effects, narration, conflict, character, action, and dialogue, as well as ideological code, there are feminist ideologies such as women's intellectuality, women's rights and responsibilities, women work to achieve transformation, rejection of women's existence under men, and women's representation in achieving social transformation in society.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the effectiveness of using word card media in enhancing the reading proficiency of grade XI students, specifically focusing on Arabic language reading skills. The study employed a classroom action research (CAR) design with a qualitative descriptive approach, conducted over two cycles, each comprising two sessions: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 14 students from class XI at SMAS Darul Quran Singosari Malang. Data collection methods included oral and written reading tests, interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis followed a descriptive approach involving data collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results revealed a positive impact of word card media on students' Arabic reading proficiency across both cycles. In the pre-cycle assessment, students scored an average of 43.9. Following the implementation of word card media in cycle I, the average score increased to 68.9, with a classical completeness percentage of 64. In cycle II, students' reading proficiency further improved, with an average score of 82.8 and a completion rate of 92.8 percent. These findings suggest that the utilization of word card media effectively enhances Arabic reading skills among grade XI students. The study underscores the importance of innovative teaching strategies, such as word card media, in facilitating language learning and improving students' academic performance. These insights contribute to the ongoing discourse on pedagogical approaches to enhance reading proficiency in language education.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the implementation of differentiated learning based on learning styles in the Seni Budaya subject for 7th-grade students at SMP Negeri 14 Malang and its impact on student learning outcomes and motivation. Employing a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, the research found that differentiated learning can effectively be applied in 7th-grade classes, positively influencing student outcomes and motivation. The implementation spanned a semester, focusing on artistic creation through a project involving traditional dance performances. Students were grouped based on their kinesthetic, auditory, and visual learning styles, allowing tailored engagement with the material. Kinesthetic learners engaged in hands-on activities, auditory learners in listening exercises and discussions, and visual learners in visual aids utilization. Following the traditional dance performances, comprehensive evaluations were conducted, encompassing both formative and summative assessments. This feedback-oriented evaluation aimed at enhancing student skills and understanding. The differentiated learning approach resulted in increased motivation, improved learning outcomes, and the cultivation of character traits consistent with the Pancasila student profile. In conclusion, this study highlights the efficacy of differentiated learning in enhancing academic performance, motivation, and character development. It offers valuable insights for educators seeking to implement student-centered learning strategies effectively.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of brainwriting to chain images as a method to enhance poetry writing skills. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research applies the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, and Result) to analyze the effectiveness of this approach. Data collection methods include observation, questionnaire administration, testing, and document analysis. The study focuses on students in class VIII-A of UM Laboratory Middle School, comprising 32 students, with 14 male and 18 female participants. By utilizing the brainwriting technique to generate and connect ideas for image chaining, students' engagement and motivation in learning are expected to increase. The subsequent discussion sessions following brainwriting activities facilitate the exchange of perspectives and emotions among students regarding the chained images, fostering empathy and deeper understanding. The collaborative nature of the padlet platform enhances communication and interaction among students, creating a conducive environment for exploring and expressing ideas. Through this process, students not only improve their poetry writing skills but also develop their ability to interpret and convey emotions through visual imagery. Overall, the findings suggest that incorporating brainwriting into poetry writing sessions can be an effective strategy to stimulate creativity and enhance students' learning experience in poetry composition.

Abstract

The use of Indonesian language in the school environment that has not been optimal makes teachers make efforts to develop language skills and encourage students' critical and creative thinking abilities. This study aims to examine and analyze the application of Ki Hajar Dewantara's Among concept in Indonesian language learning as an effort to optimize students' language skills holistically. The method used is a literature study by collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing various relevant literature sources on the concept of Among and Indonesian language learning. The results show that the application of the Among concept which emphasizes teacher exemplary, motivation, guidance, family approach, and democratic principles has high relevance in optimizing students' language skills. Teachers play an important role in applying this concept by being role models, motivators, and mentors for students. Learning strategies and techniques that are aligned with the Among concept such as project-based, collaborative, and contextual learning can be applied to increase students' interest and motivation to learn and develop language skills as a whole. In conclusion, the application of Ki Hajar Dewantara's Among concept in Indonesian language learning is the right solution to realize meaningful, contextual, and aligned learning with national education goals.
