Abstract

The community service program “Strengthening Kana Literacy (Hiragana and Katakana) as the Foundation of Japanese Language Competence for Prospective Migrant Workers in Gowa Regency” was implemented to improve the basic Japanese language competence of prospective migrant workers before they take the JLPT N4 or JFT-Basic A2 exams. This initiative aims to address the low level of kana literacy, which is a major obstacle to learning Japanese for migrant workers. The program utilized a 30-day intensive training program comprising 120 hours of instruction, employing a drilling-mnemonic-contextual approach, and utilizing character cards and digital applications for 50 participants. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in kana literacy skills, with the average score rising from 30% on the pre-test to 82% on the post-test (an increase of 52.1%), including a 52.1% improvement in hiragana reading and an 80% improvement in katakana reading, both meeting the criteria for effectiveness. Participants were able to write 92 kana characters without errors, memorize 20 work-related vocabulary words per day, and engage in simple conversations in a workplace context. This program enhances job readiness in Japan through the SSW scheme and supports the national target of placing 100,000 migrant workers in Japan. Program recommendations include the development of N4-level job vocabulary and grammar modules, as well as ongoing collaboration between local governments, vocational training centers (LPK), and industry.

Abstract

This activity is a community service program focused on government policy regarding community empowerment to improve welfare through "bucket" (gift arrangement) making training in Sitirejo III. The objective of this initiative is to empower the community to enhance their well-being. The training provided to the residents of Sitirejo III covered the creation of flower buckets and snack buckets. The activity involved 35 participants divided into seven groups and was conducted through stages comprising preparation, training and implementation, and evaluation. The results of the training demonstrated a significant improvement. This was evident across various assessed aspects—including awareness, speed, skill, proficiency, innovation capability, and motivation—where scores rose from low levels prior to the training to higher levels afterward. Overall, the bucket-making training made a positive contribution toward empowering the community and improving welfare. However, such outcomes rely on optimal support and motivation derived from government policy in the Sitirejo III Urban Village, as the role of leadership is crucial in determining community welfare. Fortunately, the Sitirejo III Urban Village consistently provides facilities for community empowerment training.

Abstract

This article discusses legal education on legal protection in civil disputes within the community. The main issue raised is the public’s limited understanding of their legal rights and obligations, which often leads to civil disputes arising from breach of contract, unclear agreements, or a lack of knowledge regarding dispute resolution mechanisms. This study employs a literature review method, examining various legal sources, books, journals and relevant regulations to understand the concept of legal protection and the mechanisms for resolving civil disputes. The findings indicate that legal protection in civil disputes encompasses two main forms: preventive and repressive protection. Preventive protection serves to prevent disputes from arising through legal education and advice, whilst repressive protection provides avenues for resolution through litigation or non-litigation means such as mediation and negotiation. Consequently, legal advice serves as a vital means of raising public legal awareness, enabling citizens to protect their rights more effectively.

Abstract

This article discusses the promotion of crime prevention amongst young people through legal education as a preventative measure aimed at fostering a legally aware younger generation. Adolescents are a vulnerable age group, susceptible to environmental influences, peer pressure and the development of digital technology, all of which can trigger deviant behaviour and criminal acts. This paper employs a literature review method, examining various relevant sources, such as books, journals and scientific documents relating to legal education and the prevention of juvenile delinquency. The findings indicate that legal education plays a crucial role in enhancing adolescents’ knowledge, awareness and law-abiding attitudes. Effective socialisation strategies need to involve families, schools, the community and law enforcement agencies through interactive, participatory and sustainable approaches. Thus, legal education can serve as a strategic means of preventing criminal offences amongst adolescents and fostering a young generation characterised by responsibility and integrity.
