Abstract

Chemical bonding is a basic material that helps students to understand other chemical concepts, because it provides a basic explanation of the process of a reaction. chemical bonding material becomes material that is considered difficult by students because of its abstract concept. Learning media is needed in the learning process, to be able to improve students' understanding, skills, learning outcomes, achievement and motivation to learn. The purpose of this study is to determine the electronic learning media that have been developed and used on chemical bonding materials. This study used of the literature review method from several articles in the research database based on the validity, practicality, and effectiveness values, then analyzed and concluded. The results of this study found 27 electronic learning media in the form of Web site, Electronic Module, Electronic teaching materials, Electronic Learning, Comics, Electronic Book, Video, Audio Visual, Ludo, Animation, Khoot, Computational Chemistry and Power-Point.

Abstract

The assessment process conducted by teachers tends to focus on understanding chemistry rather than the students' science process skills. This is because there are no available assessment instruments to measure students' science process skills, resulting in the chemistry learning outcomes in the independent curriculum not being fully achieved. This research aims to develop an assessment instrument that can measure students' science process skills on the topic of reaction rates. This instrument was developed using ten stages of the Rasch model and consists of 24 multiple-choice questions based on the aspects of science process skills in the independent curriculum. Field test results were analyzed using Ministep software, and it was found that all questions were declared valid because they met the MNSQ, ZSTD, and Pt Mean Corr criteria. The reliability value of 0.84 falls into the good category, and it also has good difficulty and discrimination indices according to the Rasch model. The results of the study indicate that the developed science process skills assessment instrument is suitable for use.

Abstract

Cooperative learning such as team-pair-solo strategy, gives teachers a framework to help students grasp scientific knowledge and cross-cutting mathematics ideas for enhanced performance..This study explored the effect of team-pair-solo strategy on senior secondary school students’ performance in mathematics. It adopted quasi-experimental research design of pre-test, post-test non-equivalent control group of 2x2 factorial design.. Two public schools in Badagry zone of Education District V, Lagos State, Nigeria, with 139 students (60-experimental & 79-control groups) in two intact classes of Senior Secondary School two made up the study sample. Mean, standard deviation and Analysis of Covariance were employed using IBM-SPSS 23. Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT) with reliability index of 0.87 was employed. Results showed that students' performance in team-pair-solo is significantly better than those in conventional classroom [F(1,138)=10.688;p<0.05],no statistically significant gender differences in students’ performances in either group [F (1, 138) = 0.029; p>0.05] and no significant interaction effect of treatment and gender on student performance in mathematics [F (1, 138) = 0.095; p>0.05. The study concluded that the adoption of team-pair-solo strategy significantly enhanced performance of students in mathematics and it is recommended that Mathematics educators publicize of the use of this strategy to enhance students’ performance in Mathematics.

Abstract

High school students often face challenges in developing essential writing skills for academic and professional success. Integrating creative activities into the classroom has proven to be an effective way to address these issues. This article examines the use of storytelling, reflective journaling, collaborative writing projects, and gamification as innovative tools to enhance students’ writing abilities. These activities not only foster creativity but also improve students’ engagement, critical thinking, and self-expression. The study combines theoretical insights with practical applications, supported by case studies and recent research findings. Results show significant improvements in writing fluency, coherence, and originality among students who participated in creative tasks. Challenges in implementing these methods, such as time constraints and varying student engagement levels, are also discussed, along with potential solutions. The findings emphasize the importance of a supportive and interactive learning environment in developing high school students’ writing skills.

Abstract

The alarming rate of students’ underachievement in mathematics as linked to short retention is calling for urgent involvement of stakeholders. In view of this, this study investigated the effects of cross-age peer-tutoring as an intervention on students’ retention in mathematics. By means of multi-stage sampling technique, a total of 93 senior secondary school 2 (Grade-11) students (59-control & 34-Experimental groups) were sampled in their intact classes. The study adopted the quasi-experimental research design using the pre-test-post-test non-equivalent control group experimental approach. Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study, which lasted for five weeks. The self-developed students’ achievement test in coordinate geometry (SATC) has Pearson-R coefficient of 0.74, while mean, standard deviation and Analysis of Covariance were used as statistical tools. The study found significant effect of cross-age peer-tutoring strategy on retention of students in mathematics [F(3, 134)=8.15; p<0.05] revealed no statistical significant influence of gender on students’ retention [F(1, 134)= 1.24; p>0.05 and no statistical significant influence of age on students’ retention [F(2, 134)= 0.33; p>0.05]. It concluded that cross-age peer-tutoring is an effective strategy for extending students’ retention in mathematics, irrespective of gender and age. It is neither gender bias nor age sensitive. To boost learning outcome in mathematics teachers should generously teach difficult concept like coordinate geometry using a peer-tutoring strategy.

Abstract

Command style is a training method that involves direct instruction from the coach to the player with a focus on specific technique control and correction. Meanwhile, shooting in soccer refers to the player's ability to shoot towards the goal with the aim of scoring a goal. This study aims to analyze the effect of command style on shooting ability in soccer games in students at SMPN 2 Medan. This study used an experimental method with a pretest-posttest group design. The sample used was grade VIII students consisting of two groups, namely the experimental group who were given treatment in the form of training using the command style, and the control group who did not receive the treatment. Data were collected through shooting skills tests before and after treatment. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant increase in shooting ability in the experimental group using the command style compared to the control group. These findings indicate that the application of the command style in soccer training can improve students' shooting skills. This study makes an important contribution to developing more effective training methods to improve soccer technique skills, especially in the shooting aspect, in junior high school students.

Abstract

The achievement of learning outcomes in the Merdeka Curriculum with respect to the assessment of scientific process skills remains unobservable. Teachers frequently conduct assessments that focus primarily on students' knowledge, while assessments targeting scientific process skills are rarely implemented. This is concerning because scientific process skills is part of the learning outcomes expected in the Merdeka Curriculum. Furthermore, there is a lack of assessment instruments in the form of tests that could assist teachers in measuring students' scientific process skills. This study used a research and development method using the Rasch model. The assessment instrument consisted of 24 multiple choice questions. The study involved three chemistry lecturers from the FMIPA at Universitas Negeri Padang, two chemistry teachers, and students from SMA Negeri 5 Padang as research subjects. Field test results were analyzed using Ministep software, which demonstrated that all items met the criteria for validity (based on outfit MNSQ, ZSTD, and Pt Mean Corr), reliability, varied difficulty levels (ranging from very difficult to very easy), and good item discrimination indices.
