Abstract

A key reason for students' poor performance in biology is the lack of connection between their indigenous knowledge, cultural context, and local experiences and the subject's teaching. This study explored the efficacy of the culture-techno-contextual approach (CTCA) to enhance the achievement and attitudes of secondary school students in biology. A quasi-experimental group design was employed. The study involved 135 biology students from two intact classes in schools within an education district. The treatment group (CTCA) had 67 students and the control group had 70 students. The instruments used for data collection were the Conservation of Natural Resources Achievement Test (0.70) and the Conservation of Natural Resources Attitude Questionnaire (r= 0.78). Data were analyzed using MANCOVA, having satisfied the parametric assumptions. The findings revealed a statistically significant difference in the achievement and attitudes of students taught using the culture-techno-contextual approach compared to those in the control group (F = 16.87; p < 0.01). CTCA had no statistically significant impact on students in the experimental group based on gender (F = 16.87; p < 0.01). It was concluded that the CTCA is an effective tool for enhancing students' achievement and attitudes in biology.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance the learning process and improve students' Mathematical Reasoning Skills (MRS) through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The initial MRS test results for Class X-3 at SMAN 6 Pekanbaru were relatively low, with an average score of 46.07%. This was attributed to students' unfamiliarity with reasoning-based questions, insufficient understanding of the material, and a learning process that failed to actively engage students. The research, conducted as classroom action research, consisted of two cycles involving 35 students during the first semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, focusing on sequences and series topics. Research instruments included teaching modules and student worksheets, along with observation sheets and MRS tests for data collection. Qualitative data from observations indicated a progressive improvement in learning quality across meetings, with students becoming more active and capable of constructing their knowledge. Quantitative data from the MRS tests showed an N-Gain score improvement from 0.44 in the first cycle to 0.68 in the second cycle, categorized as a moderate increase. The findings suggest that the PBL model effectively improves the learning process and enhances students' MRS, fostering a more engaging and interactive learning environment.

Abstract

Writing is a fundamental language skill that plays a crucial role in academic and professional success. Descriptive writing, in particular, requires students to vividly portray ideas, experiences, or concepts using words. The purpose of this study is to provide educators and policy makers with valuable insights into targeted interventions to help students overcome barriers and achieve proficiency with writing descriptive. The use of a purposive sampling method ensures targeted selection of participants, taking into account factors such as program specialization. This is achieved by ensuring comprehensive representation of the student population, through a strategic selection of participants who will offer a variety of insights. n conclusion, The teacher uses the "picture to picture" method, where students are asked to observe the picture and its description. Some students who feel confused by the picture to picture method, students find it more difficult to observe and express the characteristics of quiet people, lack of confidence in writing descriptions, limited mastery of English vocabulary and grammar. This causes students to lack confidence in writing descriptions using grammatically correct English.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the development of technology, especially Artificial Intelligence (AI), which began to be integrated into Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. Traditionally, PAI learning is often conducted using the lecture method, which has limitations in providing interactivity and personalization. Therefore, this study aims to examine the utilization of AI technology in improving the effectiveness of Islamic Education learning at Bina Ilmi IT Junior High School Palembang. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive method, where data were collected through observation and in-depth interviews with PAI subject teachers. The results showed that the application of AI in PAI learning was able to have a significant impact on improving students' understanding of the material taught. Teachers utilize AI to provide more interactive materials, data-based learning evaluations, and learning tailored to students' individual needs. Furthermore, the integration of AI not only improves learning effectiveness, but also encourages students to be more active and motivated in understanding Islamic values. This study contributes to understanding how technology can support the transformation of traditional learning methods to be more modern, relevant, and adaptive to the needs of today's digital generation.

Abstract

Augmented Reality integrated media has the ability to display concept visualizations. Augmented Reality integrated media on the material of atomic theory development has been developed by previous researchers. This study aims to determine the level of practicality of Augmented Reality integrated media on the material of atomic theory development in learning and its effectiveness on learning outcomes. The type of research used is pre-experimental with a research design, namely One-group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample class is X E.1 SMA Negeri 1 Sabak Auh. The instrument used in the practicality test is a questionnaire while the effectiveness test uses a cognitive knowledge test instrument in the form of multiple choices. The results of the study obtained a practicality value of 0.92 while the effectiveness test showed an average N-gain value of 0.72 in the high category. Hypothesis testing using the Wilcoxon match pairs test assisted by SPSS at a significance level of 0.05 obtained an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of <0.000 with the hypothesis decision accepted. So it can be stated that the integrated Augmented Reality learning media on the material on the development of atomic theory has proven effective in significantly improving student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) in teaching reading to vocational high school students. Utilizing qualitative research methods, the study examines the stages of GBA, namely Building Knowledge of the Field (BKoF), Modeling of the Text (MoT), and Independent Construction of the Text (ICoT), while skipping the Joint Construction of the Text (JCoT). Findings indicate that interactive discussions during BKoF and the teacher's demonstration of text structures and language features during MoT significantly enhance students' understanding of narrative texts. The transition to ICoT facilitated students' independent text analysis, promoting autonomy and confidence. Student feedback highlights increased engagement and comprehension, particularly due to the interactive and structured nature of GBA. This approach effectively fosters a supportive learning environment, resulting in improved reading skills and a deeper understanding of narrative texts.

The research utilized a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the needs of both students and teachers through questionnaires, classroom observations, and interviews. The results show that the majority of students (63%) and teachers (79%) perceive a high need for the development of interactive learning media, particularly infographics that support engagement and material comprehension. Data from the learner needs analysis revealed that 63% of students are in the "high" category, with a significant need for innovation in media, while 29% fall into the "medium" category. Similarly, 79% of teachers expressed the need for such media to improve teaching effectiveness. Interactive infographics, especially those incorporating quizzes and audio, are expected to increase student engagement and improve learning outcomes. The study concludes that interactive infographic-based media can address the challenges in language learning, offering a more inclusive and engaging experience. Furthermore, the research provides a solid foundation for designing adaptive learning media aligned with the needs of both students and teachers in the digital era.
