Abstract

This research was motivated by the poor condition of the family environment and school environment that affected Civics Learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the influence of the family environment and school environment on the learning outcomes of Civics grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 29 Pekanbaru. This study used a quantitative approach with an associative method of causal relationships. The results showed that the value of the family environment was in the good category with a percentage of 71%. The school environment is in the good category with a percentage of 73%. Meanwhile, the learning outcomes of Civics grade VIII students are included in the poor category with a percentage of 63.6%. The family environment and school environment affect the learning outcomes of civics at SMP Negeri 29 Pekanbaru with a value of Fcalculate 50.454 > Ftable 3.18 and significant of 0.000 < 0.05. The contribution of variables X1 and X2 to Y contributed 66% while the other 34% was influenced by other variables not discussed in this study.

Abstract

The independent curriculum is a learning curriculum related to interests and talents for the improvement of the 2013 curriculum. One of the schools that implements an independent curriculum is SMA Negeri 1 Pringgabaya. This study aims to identify the implementation of independent curriculum in Civics Education and Pancasila subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Pringgabaya, what are the factors that affect the implementation of independent curriculum in Civics Education and Pancasila subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Pringgabaya. This research method uses a qualitative research approach method. The results showed that independent curriculum in Civics Education and Pancasila subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Pringgabaya has been implemented with the flow of Civics Education and Pancasila learning objectives, Civics Education and Pancasila teaching modules and Civics Education and Pancasila learning assessments, as well as supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the implementation of independent curriculum in Civics Education and Pancasila subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Pringgabaya. It can be concluded that independent curriculum in Civics Education and Pancasila subjects at SMA Negeri 1 Pringgabaya is implemented with the flow of learning objectives, teaching modules and learning assessments, as well as the factors that influence it.

Abstract

Distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has encountered various challenges. Some of those include uneven internet connectivity, inadequate facilities, and an unsupportive learning environment. Those challenges gradually decreased students' learning motivation and result in learning loss. Their motivation could be influenced by several factors, including self-efficacy and self-resilience. This research aims to determine the extent to which self-efficacy and self-resilience influence learning loss compared to other factors. To achieve this goal, a quantitative approach and survey methods were applied in this cross- sectional research by using biology education students at Riau University as subjects. Its findings indicate a significant simultaneous influence of self-efficacy and self-resilience on students' learning loss. Facility disparities, unstable internet conditions, short learning time, and low interaction between instructors and students are among the factors causing learning loss in students during the distance learning. The conclusions that can be drawn from this research are learning loss is influenced by various factors, including self-efficacy and resilience. This study highlights that the low levels of self-efficacy and resilience observed in students are a result of the declining motivation for learning during remote education.

Abstract

The problem found from interviews with physics teachers at SMAN 1 Gaung who said that students' understanding of physics material was still low. This is due to the use of learning models that have not been varied so that students' understanding of physics concepts is still low. Efforts to improve students' concept understanding can be applied through learning using the Susan Loucks-Horsley model with a contextual approach. This study aims to improve students' concept understanding. The type of research used is quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study were students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Gaung. The samples used were XI MIPA 1 class as the experimental class and XI MIPA 2 class as the control class taken by random sampling which had gone through normality and homogeneity tests. Data were determined through tests that were prepared based on seven indicators of concept understanding. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially to determine the category of explanation of students' concept understanding. The research results obtained from the N-gain test score in the experimental class amounted to 0.7 and the control class amounted to 0.3. The score results show that the understanding of the concept of experimental class students is higher than the control class. This research can be concluded that the Susan Loucks-Horsley model with a contextual approach can improve the understanding of the concept of students of class XI MIPA SMAN 1 Gaung.

Abstract

In the 21st century, there are several special skills that students must master, one of which is 21st century learning and innovation skills. This research aims to determine the level of learning and innovation skills of students at SMK Negeri 2 Padang Panjang. The variables used are 21st century skills, namely Learning and Innovation Skills, which consist of four components, namely critical thinking skills, creative thinking skills, collaboration skills and communication skills. So the sample totaled 63 people. The data collection technique uses a questionnaire. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis. The results of the research show that the skill level of students at SMK Negeri 2 Padang Panjang Abad 21 has an average percentage of 82.53% which is classified as very good. The average percentage value of each component is 80.51% for critical thinking skills, 79.56% for creative thinking skills, 89.58% for collaboration skills and 85.32% for communication skills. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the overall level of learning and innovation skills of Vocational High School students at SMK Negeri 2 Padang Panjang is very good.

Abstract

Learning motivation is the drive that a person has to be able to carry out learning activities so that it is an important thing that every student must have because it is the key to success in determining the level of student learning success. The phenomenon of low student learning motivation is certainly an obstacle in the learning process. Based on observations made through interviews with guidance and counseling teachers, distribution of pre-research questionnaires to students and findings from other researchers show that at SMA Negeri 4 Pekanbaru the phenomenon of low student learning motivation is still found. This research aims to obtain an overview of students' learning motivation profiles in biology lessons at SMA Negeri 4 Pekanbaru. This research uses a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach and survey method (online). The sample for this research was students from SMA Negeri 4 Pekanbaru class X, XI and class Data analysis through calculating the mean student learning motivation in biology lessons in terms of six learning motivation indicators. Based on the researchers' findings, it can be concluded that students' learning motivation in biology lessons at SMA Negeri 4 Pekanbaru is classified as medium.

Abstract

Lack of student interest in learning can be a problem because it will affect the quality and results of learning. One solution that can be done to overcome low student interest in learning is by using animated video learning media. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of animated video learning media on student interest in learning. This research data is pre-test and post-test data conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Bukit Batu. Using quantitative research with experimental methods. The results of hypothesis testing conducted with the N-Gain score obtained results 0.7648> 0.7 which means the effectiveness is high. For N-Gain Percent the average value obtained is 76.4811> 76 which means effective. It is concluded that the use of animated videos can effectively increase students' interest in learning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Cooperative learning model type STAD assisted by baamboozle game to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes. The type of research used is quasi-experimental using Posttest Only Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population of this study were 254 students of class VIII SMP N 30 Padang. The samples of this study were students of class VIII H as the experimental class and students of class G as the control class. The data collection instrument used was the posttest of students’ cognitive learning outcomes in the subject of effort and energy. The results of the data obtained were processed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. The results showed that the STAD type cooperative learning model assisted by baamboozle game was effective to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes, as evidenced by the difference in students’ cognitive learning outcomes between the experimental and control classes.

Abstract

This literature review explores the development of effective listening skills among Malaysian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students through a sociocultural lens. Recognizing the significance of sociocultural factors in language learning, this study examines various theories, strategies, and interventions pertinent to enhancing listening proficiency in this context. By synthesizing existing research, the review elucidates key socio-cultural influences on listening skill acquisition and offers insights into tailored pedagogical approaches to optimize listening skill development among Malaysian EFL learners. Thus, internationalization has become a desirable trend among learners to further their future study or professional world where English is the medium of instruction. As a result, Malaysian students look for strategies to help them overcome their academic comprehension challenges. This paper explores and better explains EFL Malaysian students’ academic listening challenges and strategies to motivate stakeholders to support in furthering their studies overseas or in the working world. Thus, this paper reviews related literature on academic listening strategies through the traditional literature review.

Abstract

There are global challenges and problems that require sound and prompt knowledge of STEM in order to seek redress. Dearth of individuals with kin knowledge in STEM fields will further pose threat to the survival of nations of the world. Hence, the study looks into gender participation of undergraduate students in tertiary STEM education. 225 (128 males, 97 females) undergraduate students undertaking STEM related courses formed the sample of this study across four Nigerian universities in Lagos State, South West Nigeria using survey design method. Data were collected through the use of self-developed questionnaire. One research question and one hypothesis were answered and tested using inferential statistics of analysis of variance (ANOVA). The findings indicate wide gender gap in participation exists among undergraduate students in tertiary STEM, especially in science, technology and engineering related courses. The finding further reveals a significant difference in gender participation of undergraduate students in tertiary STEM. The study therefore, recommends all stake holders to adopt scholarships and provision of education materials as motivation to attract boys and girls into STEM fields of study.
