Abstract

Anticipating the post pandemy of 2021/2022, vocational school should design its curriculum as the flip classroom due to its favorablilities: maintaining the online learning circumstances and habituating students with learning autonomy and Bloom’s cognitive level practices in that students pre read at home and learn collaboratively at school through either the applying stage at the least, or the higher stage of PBET, PJBL or PBL. This condition challenges teachers to design the materials and activities for pre and in class respectively. This paper proposes English flip classroom design for students at vocational school to habituate them to read online at home (habituating students’ autonomy at Bloom’s LOTS- remembering and understanding) and to perform collaboration through PBET, PJBL, or PBL (habituating students with Bloom’s MOTS-HOTS- applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating) to result in the formation of reading literacy skill to face the AKM at 11 grades.

Abstract

This study is centered on exploring the teachers' perspective towards translanguaging practices in EFL classrooms. This study is framed within a qualitative case study involving four English teachers from two high schools in Sidoarjo, East Java. In order to understand the subjects' perspectives, personal interviews were utilized. The data having been collected, it were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically. The current study's findings show that teachers practiced translanguaging mainly when they explained the materials, such as grammar. In this sense, the sole motivation of using translanguaging is that grammar is complex and explaining in English is far more complicated. In addition, teachers also practiced translanguaging when they managed the classroom, showing shared cultural values. Further analysis showed that translanguaging helps teachers achieve their goals, and one of the goals is helping their students understand the materials explained in English better. The results of this study are expected to be advantageous for the teachers to be aware of the importance of translanguaging practices in the EFL classroom.

Abstract

News is one of the ways that people can stay informed about what is happening in the world. News can be both informative and interesting if the media and journalists construct it well. They collaborate to identify and generate hot and trending news. However, not all content is depicted accurately. They are both capable of manipulating and constructing news. This portrait is depicted in the film entitled Nightcrawler. This research aims to analyze the representation of how the media broadcasts phenomenal news, uncover how the character manipulates the story, and how both media and journalists get the advantages through the manipulated news they produce. In order to help the author doing this analysis, this research uses Media theory from John Hartley and Mise En Scene approach from Manon de Reeper. The result of this study indicates that this film represents the critics towards media such as how they, both media and journalists manipulate the news for their own advantages. At the end of this research, the author gives some personal reflections on the director's message in creating this film.
