Abstract

Increased serum calcium and phosphate associated with cardiovascular disease in patients with chronic kidney disease, but research on the relationship between coronary artery calcium scores with serum calcium and phosphate in individuals with normal kidney function is lacking. We explore the relationship of serum calcium and phosphate levels with coronary atherosclerosis as assessed by cardiac Multislice Computed Tomography (MSCT) in individuals with normal kidney function. This study aims to assess the correlation of calcium level scores on cardiac MSCT examination with serum calcium and phosphate levels, and assess the association with risk factors for coronary heart disease. This study was a cross-sectional study of 40 subjects who underwent cardiac MSCT examination with normal kidney function, at RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar during the March-July 2019 period. The results showed an correlation between coronary artery calcium scores with calcium and serum phosphate (serum calcium r = 0.67, serum phosphate r = 0.53, p <0.05).

Abstract

Music stimulation is an important component for prenatal fetal development. Both pop and religious music are easy to listen and widely accepted in Indonesia. This study was to analyze the effect of Mozart, pop, and religious music exposure during pregnancy to the number of glial cells in the brain of Rattus norvegicus offspring. The samples were divided into three groups based on the exposure for each group, namely Mozart, pop, and religious music, duration of 60 minutes with 65dB intensity, initiated on the 10th day of pregnancy for 9 days in the soundproof chamber. Three brains of the offsprings were dissected and prepared for Hematoxylin-Eosin staining counted on 5 fields of view and 400 magnification strength.Different glial cells number of Rattus norvegicus brain between groups were observed. Mozart music (28,29) showed a highest mean and pop music (18,67)  showed the lowest mean. Significant difference of the number of brain glial cells between Mozart music compared to pop and religious music groups were observed, with p value <0,005.The number of brain glial cells of Rattus norvegicus offsprings in the Mozart group were significantly higher than those in pop and religious groups.

Abstract

Prelabor rupture of the membrane (PROM) requires greater attention because of the high prevalence and its tendency to increase. The incidence of PROM at  37 weeks of gestation (aterm) is around 6.45-15.6% and about 2-3 percent of all single preterm pregnancies and 7.4% in twin preterm pregnancies. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between leukosituria and the incidence of premature rupture of membrane at < 37 weeks of gestation at the General Hospital of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang during 2015-2017. This is an analytic observational research with a cross-sectional study approach. Data were analyzed with Chi Square. Out of 36 samples that fit in the inclusion criteria, 18 patients had preterm PROM while 18 others had Aterm PROM. PROM mostly occurs in multigravida patients (58.3%, 21 patients). Patients with 38-39 weeks of gestation had the highest prevalence of PROM. Out of 18 Preterm PROM patients, 9 patients had leukocyturia. Only 1 aterm patients had positive leukocyturia. The result of this study showed a significant relationship between the incidence of PROM and preterm pregnancy.

Abstract

Purpose: Enterococcus faecalis causes nosocomial infections such as bacteremia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, and endocarditis. These infection is associated with biofilm and intrinsically resistant to many antibiotics. This study aims to determine the validity of the CRA and MCRA for detecting biofilms of Enterococcus faecalis  Method: This is a laboratory observational study with 30 sample of Enterococcus faecalis. We performed biofilm examination for Enterococcus faecalis by using Congo red Agar, Modified Congo red Agar and Microtitter Plate Assay as gold standard. Result: Both MCRA and CRA were compared MPA as a gold standard was obtained p value is 0.309 (p> 0.05), with a Kappa agreement coefficient is 0.067, which indicates there is no significant agreement to detect biofilm of Enterococcus faecalis. MCRA and CRA have almost no compatibility with MPA for biofilm forming of Enterococcus faecalis. Conclusion: Both MCRA and CRA has a very high sensitivity (100%), but the specificity is very low 6.67% for detecting the biofilms of Enterococcus faecalis. MCRA and CRA can not determine negativity well and it have a high false positive rate, so to increase specificity of biofilm forming, we must combine these method with the others. Keywords: Biofilm, Enterococcus faecalis, CRA, MCRA, MPA.
