Abstract

The transformation of contemporary Muslim consumption behavior is a phenomenon that cannot be separated from the influence of globalization, modernization, and consumerism culture. This condition poses its own challenges for the application of the distributive justice paradigm which is a fundamental principle in the sharia economy. Objective: This study aims to examine the distributive justice paradigm in sharia economics and explore its relevance to the transformation of modern Muslim consumption behavior. Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with a library research type, through analysis of normative sources and relevant scientific literature. The data analysis technique was carried out in a descriptive-interpretive manner by examining the concepts, values, and dynamics of consumption from the perspective of sharia economics. Results: The results of the study indicate that distributive justice in the sharia economy is not solely oriented to the mechanism of wealth distribution, but also demands the internalization of consumption ethics that are fair, balanced, and benefit-oriented. However, the consumption behavior of modern Muslims tends to shift towards excessive and symbolic consumption, potentially creating a gap between the normative values of Islamic economics and real consumption practices. This research emphasizes the importance of strengthening awareness of consumption ethics as an integral part of efforts to realize distributive justice in the context of modern Muslim society.

Abstract

This study discusses the rules of Sadd al-Dhari'ah (Closing the Path to Evil) and its influence in preventing assistance for sinful deeds in fiqh of financial transactions. This research begins by defining this rule in language and terms, and explaining its postulates from the Qur'an, hadith, ijma' (agreement of scholars), and reason, then discusses differences of opinion on the principle of its validity, focusing on the position of the Maliki school and their views on this matter. This study also discusses the conditions for the application of the rules of Sadd al Dhari'ah, the most important of which are: the possibility of leading to something haram, the desired goal is indeed haram based on the text, and this rule does not contradict the purpose of sharia or established customs. Furthermore, this study elaborates on the concept of al-'Awanah (aid against sins) and its relation to Sadd al Dhari'ah, emphasizing that the law of a medium depends on the goal to be achieved, and that the law of aid varies depending on how much influence it has and the extent of its damage. The study concludes with the application of fiqh in financial transactions, such as the sale of al-'Aynah (the resale of the same goods), the work used to make alcohol, the receipt of gifts between borrowers and lenders, and the conditions of acceptance in grants. This study shows how the rules of Sadd al-Dhari'ah have contributed to regulating these issues and preventing manipulation of haram things, while maintaining a balance between preventing harm and achieving legitimate interests. Keywords: Sadd al-Dhari'ah, assistance against sins, fiqh of financial transactions, media and purposes, consequences, manipulation of fiqh, madhhab Maliki.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the role of zakat in realizing social justice in the Islamic economic system, by highlighting the philosophy of legislation and its practical function in redistributing wealth and reducing social class gaps. This research begins with the basis of shari'i from the concept of justice, as stated in the Qur'an and hadith, emphasizing that zakat is required to achieve a great social goal, namely preventing the hoarding of wealth that only circulates among the rich, and ensuring the distribution of financial rights to those in need in society. This study uses an analytical descriptive approach, by discussing zakat fiqh related to the definition of justice, the law of zakat obligations, its types, various assets subject to zakat, and eight recipients of zakat, while showing legislative accuracy and economic justice that pays attention to differences in sources of wealth and difficulties in obtaining it. This research also discusses aspects of distributing zakat to the poor, people in debt, travelers, and in the way of Allah, and explains its impact in reducing the burden of life, paying off debts, maintaining human dignity, and strengthening the spirit of togetherness and social solidarity. This study also examines contemporary conditions through economic and social models and statistics, especially in Indonesian society, highlighting the great potential of zakat in overcoming poverty and unemployment, supporting education, and reducing economic inequality, if zakat institutions are properly functioned and their collection and distribution are carried out in accordance with sharia objectives. This study concludes that zakat is not only a financial worship, but a comprehensive social and economic system, which contributes to the realization of social justice, social stability, and sustainable development in Islamic society.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has had a significant impact on the formation of students' religious character. The digital generation faces challenges in the form of high exposure to digital media, shifting moral values, and weakening consistency in religious practices. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning to be less than optimal in shaping the religious character of students and to describe efforts to revitalize IRE learning that is relevant in the digital age. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design at Muhammadiyah 5 Junior High School in Surakarta. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results of the study indicate that the suboptimal learning of Islamic Education is influenced by external factors such as the digital environment and differences in family backgrounds, as well as internal factors such as limited learning time and the dominance of theoretical learning methods. The challenges of the digital generation also create a gap between the technological skills and moral maturity of students. However, Islamic education schools and teachers have made revitalization efforts through the integration of Islamic values into school culture, religious habits, strengthening religious programs, and utilizing digital technology in learning. The revitalization of Islamic education learning that emphasizes a balance between cognitive, affective, and religious practice aspects has proven to be relevant in strengthening the religious character of students in the digital age.

Abstract

This study discusses a brief study of the Science of the Qur'an and its Tafsir, which is one of the most noble and high-ranking sharia sciences, because it is directly related to the Kalam of Allah SWT, as well as its great influence in the correct understanding of the Qur'an and its application. The purpose of this research is to explain the concept of the Qur'anic Science, the virtues of studying it, and its development throughout the ages, focusing on its main topics, such as the collection of the Qur'an, knowing the Mecca and Madani, as well as the methods of interpretation, especially the tafsir bil-ma'tsur (based on history) and the tafsir bil-ra'yi (based on opinion). This research also discusses the concept of collecting the Qur'an both through memorization and writing, and explains the historical stages of the collection of the Qur'an during the time of the Prophet صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم, then during the time of the Caliph Rashidun, and highlights the thoroughness of the scientific methods applied by the Companions in keeping the Qur'an from deviations. In addition, this study discusses the problems of Mecca and Madani, explaining the definition, how to know both, and their benefits in understanding the context of the verses of the Qur'an, knowing nasikh and mansukh, and developments in legislation. This research also pays important attention to the method of interpretation, by explaining the position of tafsir bil ma'tsur as the main basis in understanding the Qur'an, because it is based on authentic texts from the Qur'an, hadith, and the sayings of the companions and tabiin. Then, this study discusses the interpretation of bil-ra'yi, explaining the difference between a good opinion that follows scientific rules and a reprehensible opinion based on lust and ignorance. This research ends by explaining the requirements of a mufassir and ethics in tafsir, emphasizing the importance of not talking about the Qur'an without knowledge, as well as the need for sincerity, piety, and correct methods. The conclusion of this study is that studying the science of the Qur'an is a solid foundation for the correct understanding of the text of the Qur'an, strengthens the faith, and protects the interpretation from deviations, which shows the importance of attention to this science in terms of teaching, learning, and research.

Abstract

Campaigns to boycott products related to Israel or support them are on the rise in the countries of the Global South as a political consumption behavior that combines moral solidarity and symbolic pressure on companies. However, the power of the campaign in the public sphere does not necessarily mean the power of the impact in the market or in the political-economic structures that support the conflict. This article aims to provide a multi-dimensional critical analysis of symbolic awareness gaps and structural impacts based on the current literature (2021–2025) on boycotts, political consumption, and digital activism, by reinforcing the theoretical framework with quantitative and qualitative evidence from studies in East Asia (Indonesia and Malaysia). This article uses a composite approach that includes: (1) a selective methodological review of recent research in accordance with defined transparency standards, (2) an interpretive model that combines Planned Behavior Theory (SDP), Social Identity Theory (SIT), and a political economy approach to global value chains (GVCs), (3) comparative analysis supported by field evidence on the role of religiosity, perceived efficiency, and and local alternatives in converting intentions into actual behaviors. The article concludes that to reduce the gap, boycotts must be transformed from moral indicators to market governance tools based on supply chain transparency, support programs for local alternatives, and ESG accountability mechanisms.

Abstract

Purpose: The rule of Sharia in regulating halal issues in the contemporary world is a complex and multifaceted one. Islamic scholars and jurists have debated the issue for centuries, and there is no one definitive answer. However, there are a number of key principles that can be drawn from the Quran and Sunnah that provide guidance on how to approach the issue of halal in the modern world. This study explores the role of Sharia in regulating halal issues in the contemporary world. The aim of this research is to analyze the recent developments and challenges in the field of halal regulation from an Islamic perspective. Methodology: A qualitative research approach is employed, using a literature review and analysis of relevant secondary sources. Results: The findings indicate that Sharia plays a crucial role in guiding the regulation and certification of halal products and services. Value: It provides a comprehensive framework that encompasses not only the technical aspects of halal, but also ethical and sustainable considerations. Sharia-based halal standards and regulations ensure the traceability, authenticity, and integrity of halal products, thereby safeguarding the interests of Muslim consumers. Furthermore, the research reveals the challenges faced in implementing Sharia-based halal regulation, such as the lack of uniform standards and the need for international harmonization. However, these challenges also present opportunities for collaboration and innovation in the halal industry. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by highlighting the importance of Sharia in addressing contemporary halal issues and providing insights for policymakers, industry practitioners, and scholars in the field.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the concept of water in the Qur'an through a thematic interpretation approach and relate it to water fiqh as the basis for the formation of environmental ethics towards sustainable theological ecological development. Water is understood not only as a natural resource that sustains life, but also as a divine mandate that contains theological, moral, and legal dimensions. This understanding is important in the midst of a contemporary ecological crisis characterized by water scarcity, environmental pollution, and uncontrolled exploitation of natural resources. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study design. The research data is in the form of Qur'anic verses related to water, especially Q.S. al-Anbiyā' [21]:30, Q.S. al-Wāqi'ah [56]:68–70, and Q.S. al Mulk [67]:30, and is supported by two main literature that discusses Islamic environmental ethics and fiqh al-bi'ah. The data was analyzed using the thematic interpretation method to identify the pattern of the meaning of the verses about water, then analyzed descriptively to map its relationship with the principles of environmental fiqh. The results of the study show that the Qur'an consistently displays water as the source of life, the gift of Allah that is beyond the full control of humans, as well as entities that can experience crises as a form of theological warning against human behavior. These findings are in line with the Islamic framework of environmental ethics and the principles of fiqh al-bi'ah which emphasize responsibility, ecological justice, and the prohibition of environmental damage. This study concludes that the integration of thematic interpretation of the Qur'an and water fiqh makes an important contribution to the development of a sustainability-oriented theological ecology, while enriching the treasures of contemporary Islamic interpretation and fiqh studies in responding to global ecological problems.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the sharia principles that govern economic activities in the "Platform Economy", which has become a key pillar in the contemporary global financial system. The problem of this research arises from the rapid development of digital business models and their relationship with the alleged gharar (obscurity), jahalah (ignorance), and usury, which requires the renewal of fiqh in accordance with these developments. This study uses a descriptive approach to analyze the working mechanism of the platform, as well as a deductive analytical approach to apply general fiqh rules to emerging digital problems. This study concludes that the profits obtained through digital platforms are subject to basic principles, the most important of which are: the halalness of objects (services or goods), the transparency of contract algorithms to avoid jahalah, and the application of sharia rules in the legal control of digital assets. The study also emphasizes that the determination of fiqh platforms often falls between the status of brokers and paid agents, which requires regularity in formulating "terms of use" to ensure fairness in financial distribution. This research recommends the need for an international charter of ethics and sharia for digital platforms to strengthen the digital Islamic economy.

Abstract

Objective and transparent grading remains a critical challenge within educational evaluation system, particularly in contexts where inconsistency, subjectivitiy, and unclear assessment standards affect students' motivation and academic fairness. This study explores the urgency of objective score processing in education by examining teachers’ understanding and practices related to scale selection, score distribution, and standardized assessment criteria. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through in depth interviews, observations, and documentation analysis in several senior high schools. Thematic analysis was employed to identify patterns in how educators interpret and implement objective grading principles. Findings indicate that while teachers recognize the importance of objective evaluation, variations in understanding of measurement scale (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio), limited use of score distribution analysis, and inconsistent application of assessment standards contribute to discrepancies in grading outcomes. These inconsistencies often impact students’ perceptions of fairness and may influence learning motivation. Furthermore, the study highlights structural challenges such as lack of professional training, minimal feedback mechanisms, and limited technological integration in score processing. This research underscores the need for systematic professional development and standardized assessment frameworks to promote fairness, validity, and accountability in educational evaluation. The study also suggests integrating statistical tools and digital assessment platforms as strategies to enhance objectivity and transparency
